I will have to take some time and learn the sweet spots on this little hand drum. The notes are muddled unless the tongues are struck in just the right place, and the tone in general leaves something to be desired. (This may be due to my status as a learner, used to singing bowls and Tibetan bells.)

This Aniniucn Mini Steel Drum was a surprise for my adult daughter, who has a lot of anxiety and stress. I have a somewhat larger instrument and she found it very soothing to tap on it. She was so entranced by it that I wanted to give her one for herself. I selected this particular one for her using a very non-musical criterion: color. It is a beautiful purple that I just felt was exactly the right hue for relaxation. I was delighted to find such a small version, knowing that she can keep it in her purse and just whip it out whenever she needs a moment to calm down. Is it the most beautiful or authentic sound? No, it isn't, but I didn't expect a quality musical instrument in this price range. I did expect a small, musical gadget that would make her smile, and that it is. I did deduct one star for price, because at the time I got it, it was around $20, what I paid for my own larger drum, which is higher quality and has more notes. I was also on the hunt for an inexpensive one for my grandkids, and found them one after this purchase for about half the price. That one is very similar to this one, so I feel that it may be overpriced at twice the price without any significant differences or extras. ... show more
