I purchased this lathe to turn spent ammo brass while I used a cut off wheel on my dremel to cut the base/head off for jewelry and other projects. This lathe is plenty strong to turn the brass cases while cutting them. I cut 300 cases in three days to cover the large coffee mug in the attached photos. I have since cut an additional 100+ cases for earrings I am making. So far the lathe is running strong... The only problem I have had is with the chuck. It comes with two 1/8" soft metal rods approximately 3" long that are inserted into holes in the chuck sleeves. By squeezing the two rods together you can either tighten or loosen the chuck. I have bent the crap out of both rods trying to get the chuck tight enough to hold the ammo brass in place. At one point the chuck was getting soo hard to open and close without anything in its teeth/jaws, I took it apart and used graphite to help make it operate smoother. That worked for a while, but is has gone back to being extremely hard to tighten or loosen. The chuck does not seem to loosen while in use, the jaws just don't seem to hold tight to the brass I am turning, regardless how tight I try and tighten it. At this point I have enough cut brass to do what I want, but I honestly dread having to use it again when I need to cut more. Perhaps I might see what other chucks are available for this lathe. I also tried researching replacement motors for this lathe, just in case, as it is not brushless and the brushes are not replaceable. Also looked for replacement belts. Sad to say I could not find either anywhere. So depending how many hours you plan on putting on this lathe, you might be SOL if you need to replace either of those.     • To much slop in tail piece.
The tail piece and whatever is clamped in do not line up centered. No amount of tweeking or adjusting helps. Also, Amazon claimed in the frequently bought together was a drill chuck tail piece. Not sure what Amazon was thinking but the machines tail is left hand thread but the drill chucks insert was right hand thread. Kind of mis leading. I'll use this machine for something i'm sure. only 2,000 rpm not 20,000 rpm. tailstock is small, watch what you order for tooling so it will fit
