My 4-year-old granddaughter absolutely loves Millie Fleur La Fae and hearing about all of her adventures in Garden Glen. This is a really sweet book about a girl who loves gardening, but who is interested in unusual plants that freak out the rest of the neighborhood. She is guided by her wise mother who helps her find a way to introduce the neighbors to her passion without creating antagonism, and afterwards, the neighbors begin to appreciate some of the unique plants that Millie is growing. The illustrations are well-suited for the story, and the names of the plants are a riot! My daughter loves gardening, and her little one, for whom I bought this book, loves to help in the garden. We love Millie's Poison Garden! I got this for my (not quite) 2 year old and she immediately loved it. She requests "Poison Garden" often. The illustrations are so cute and bizarre, and the writing is *chefs kiss*. We love Millie's uniqueness, and that she doesn't go as far as to REJECT sameness, she just prefers what she prefers and isn't afraid to lean in to being different. I love that message for my daughter. My favorite part of the book is when Millie has a moment of doubt saying maybe she should plant some roses since the neighbors seem to like them. To which the mom responds "Only if roses make you happy." Man, what a beautiful line. Again, neither Millie nor her mom *reject* the things that everyone else likes, they just prefer the funkier things in life and think there is room for all to live harmoniously. Highly recommend this book and will be purchasing for a few friends. ... show more
