  • Midwest Water Can
Size: 6 Gallon, (Pack of 4)
I purchased these cans so I could store some extra drinking water for emergencies. As an apartment dweller, I don't have space for a large reservoir, so I gave these a try. They seem to be very sturdy and well made. I filled them in my bathtub, and they are the perfect height to fit under the bath faucet for easy filling. To clean them before filling (and to get rid of any plasticky taste), I poured in a couple of drops of dish soap, filled the cans up until suds stopped coming out, and emptied the cans completely. I then filled them around a quarter of the way again with water, shook them around a bunch, and poured out the soapy water. I repeated this process until I wasn't seeing any more suds, then I filled them up for storage. I really like the ability to have 24 gallons of drinking water on hand for emergencies. Also, the cans are of the right size so you can fit one under the kitchen sink or in the corner of a closet for easy storage. Be aware that each can will weigh close to 60 pounds when filled, but the two handles make them convenient to move when necessary. ... show more

  • Great water can!
Size: 6 Gallon, (Pack of 4)
We bought these for our sailboat and I have to say that I'm surprised at the quality for the price. They are sturdy, and the square shape of them means they sit more steadily on the bottom of our dinghy for transport. The only problem is the difficulty others mentioned about the caps. They have spouts stored under the lids but there is no lid that will accept the spouts. As all the other reviewers mentioned, I called them and they sent out the caps for them free. They arrived two days later. I will say that if you are buying them for a sailboat, be careful of the sizing. These are not the thin profile tall cans that you can put on a rail board unless you have a very wide side deck. These are more square in shape and they do not fit on our rail board. ... show more

  • Great product
Size: 6 Gallon, (Pack of 4)
Bought these to bring extra water when camping. These jugs are awesome. Reason for 4 stars is they do dump water slowly. They have a built in breather in the pour spot however, if it had a dedicated air vent on the back i believe it would pour much faster. I think it took me about 5-8 minutes per jug to dump into my camper. I am a bigger guy so I can hold them that long however, as i age i doubt that will be the case. ... show more

  • Great short-term solution in an emergency
Size: 6 Gallon, (Pack of 4)
These containers are very durable and perfect for transporting. 2-6 gallon cans of water are pretty heavy to tote about for anyone--especially if you are a small woman or even a child, but in times of emergency, that's not going to matter. My dad was a prepper and his philosophy was when it comes to survival, your comfort is the last thing you need be concerned with. Although this is not BPA free, it will store drinkable water for short periods of time. I don't recommend keeping water that you intend for consumption for longer than 2 months in these containers. However, in the event that your options are limited in an extreme survival crisis, you may have to suck it up that this is not BPA-free plastic and resort to riding things out in a third-world way. Also, I haven't checked the spout, many reviews are regarding missing spout, spout not working, etc. Yes, a working spout is convenient. But in situation where it depends on survival, who cares. This is great for the price. All four of these fit conveniently on a shelf in my basement. ... show more

  • holds a bit more than 6 gallons!
Size: 6 Gallon, (Single Unit)
mine has been well used, and well traveled. though very high elevation and temp changes (0-12k without venting), and through winters as cold as -45 to summers as hot as +40c (100ish f), it has never given me problems, leaks, or plasticy taste. stupid cheap too, compared to my 5 gal watercan. im still kinda upset i spent twice as much as this thing on a can that holds a gallon LESS water) i would for sure recommend ... show more

  • Easy hack for an airtight cap fit
Size: 6 Gallon, (Single Unit)
These are great storage cans. If you want long term storage, and also plan to use the spout often, it is easy to make an inner cap liner to cover the spout knock-out hole inside the cap. Using the base of the spout - with the black gasket temporarily removed - trace the outside onto a flat section of washed milk jug plastic that you cut out first. Use sharp scissors to cut the circle out, then insert it up inside the black cap to cover the hole. Screw the cap onto the can. For a really long term storage air barrier, you can also wrap the circle with several layers of plastic food wrap film over the milk jug circle; that creates a soft, compressible gasketing layer between the inside of the cap and the milk jug plastic circle plug. The quicker option for really long term storage is to just mold heavy duty aluminum foil onto the outside of the cap and then over wrap it with a layer of waterproof duct tape; that also creates a "tamper proof" seal, just so you'll know if you've already tapped into that particular can, or to provide evidence should pets, critters or trespassers try to get into your stored water cans. ... show more
