  • Sweet Pack
Size: 55L Color: Hunter Green
General info: I am 5'2", 115lbs, 32E bust size. I just bought this pack, and after my initial inspection, it's awesome. I bought the hunter green version, and I like it. The green doesn't seem to be as 'bright' as the picture; a nice, neutral color. Why do I like this pack so much?? $$$ (!) -- I was looking at a slightly larger $200 pack from REI that got worse reviews than this pack did. Great value for the money spent. It feels really solid, and it's comfortable for me. If you are a larger, taller person, you could probably carry a bigger pack, but this size is fantastic for my needs. My dog has his own hiking pack from Ruffwear, so he can carry his own food, toys, and blanket anyway :P Super Adjustable -- there are straps everywhere. You can adjust the shoulder straps to fit your torso length. With a little finagling, I was able to move the chest strap up so it sits comfortably above my chest, removing the issue of being squished in a most awkward fashion. I had no idea when I read the description, but you can even take out the aluminum stays (the actual frame) and *carefully* bend them to fit the contour of your back. Awesome! I wouldn't plan on attempting this alone, and I will probably only do it if I find that I might be able to make it more comfortable. seems pretty good to me so far. There are little straps and and external pockets everywhere! I have some collapsible water bottles with carabiners that go really well on it. I haven't gotten my new sleeping back yet, but I will update as to whether or not it will fit in the designated pouch. If it doesn't, I think I could squish my pillow or a jacket into that pocket and use the 2 long outer straps to attach the sleeping bag. I doubt it could fit a rectangle sleeping bag ever, or a 0F mummy bag, but it may be able to fit a 20F compressed mummy bag. Again, if not, the outer straps most certainly will. As for the bag being good for a carry on, totally! You will have to be careful with how you pack it, but you could do it. It also depends on the airline. They all are so confusing with their different rules, but my old wheeled carry on was wider than the frame on this pack. I will update my review of the pack as I get some practical use in during travelling and camping. I should be going camping a few times in the coming months. Yay (!) California weather (: At some point I'll be flying home for a holiday, so I will be another guinea pig with that. ______________________________ Update #1: My sleeping bag fit in the designated compartment with a little extra room to spare! I could probably shove a book and some socks in there. However, there's no way it would have fit without the compression sack it came with. For reference, my sleeping bag is the "Ledge Sports FeatherLite +20F" mummy bag. I'll be camping in Northern California (winter = 45F at night), so it works for all seasons for me. If you need to use a 0F bag, unless it's a really expensive, specially designed compression bag, it probably won't fit inside this pack's designated compartment. You could fit it in the main compartment, though, and put some other stuff in the bottom section. ... show more

  • Love this Backpack: Solid, Adjustable, loads of space
Size: 55L Color: Tan
Im an avid hiker who just started backpacking. At 66 years old, I plan on hitting all the National Parks, and some of the Nature Conservancy Nature Preserves. -I'm 5'1" and it fits comfortably on my back and shoulders. The weight is distributed evenly. It's easy to fit tent, synthetic sleeping bag, food, clothes for 1 or 2 night trips and essential gear. I suppose it could be lighter, but I figure I'll drop a few pounds with all the hiking, so no big deal. I'll update with a photos hike. ... show more

  • Great value, average quality
Size: 55L Color: Hunter Green
Overall, I think it's a good value. Don't expect a $200 pack for an $80 price. I like the capacity, and loaded mine up with 45lbs of gear. The straps and frame have sufficient padding and should be much more comfortable for long hikes than my old milsurp alice pack. I like the compression straps not for compressing the pack, but for strapping on extra gear. My 4 season sleeping bag and water proof bivy was too big for the compartment on the bottom, but in it's compression sack, the straps hold it onto the outside of the pack well. Other straps and cords allowed me to strap on a gas mask bag (admittedly unlikely to be needed) and a pvc tube to store my arrows as it's an emergency survival bag. Mine contains whats listed as well as a hammock shelter, tarp, sleeping pad, 4-8 days of food depending on rationing. 3L water bladder, water filters, change of clothes, poncho, fire kit, gel fuel, folding saw, hatchet, folding shovel, fishing kit, slingbow, knives, lights, cookware, and sizable first aid kit, plus a few toiletries. I could probably add another change of clothes and/or a small tent, but that would put me over the 50lb limit I wanted to stay under. (roughly 5 extra lbs once water bladder is filled) The bad. The rain fly is a nice touch but I don't like that it's yellow when I intentionally chose a more subtle colored pack. The matirial feels a bit cheap and I expect it will wear out quickly with heavy use. But I think it will do fine for occasional or emergency use as long as you don't overload it. I would also prefer if it had more medium size pockets to divide the large main compartment. My cookware, hammock, sleep pad, first aid kit, saw, tarp and half my food are all in the main compartment. Unable to access without unpacking the items on top. While functional, it's annoying. All in all, it's a good pack for what you pay. But there is room for improvement. ... show more

  • Durable, Comfortable and worth the purchase!
Size: 45L Color: Evergreen
Very durable and had no damage when backpacking 17 miles through trees and logs. Fairly water resistant and light weight. Shoulders were comfortable and normal amount of fatigue for the distance. Plenty of storage and pockets with easy accessible pockets for snacks, water, etc.

  • TETON Internal Scout3400 - Great bag
Size: 55L Color: Black
This bag is solid. If you're like me, when you get something that you are going to put through some serious use, you check it all over for faults or weaknesses. I found none. Just awesomeness. On it's construction - Extremely well made. Stitching on the bag itself and the straps and harnesses is absolutely solid. Materials are all nylon, with features engineered into it that improve it's water resistance and overall functionality. It has a rainfly on the bottom, compartments for everything including a bladder. I trust that this bag is going to make it through whatever I put it through, it's already been through a lot. On it's features - All I can say is this was designed by people that know what it's gonna be used for. You've got multiple quick access compartments for whatever, you've got top and bottom bungees for stuffing clothing layers into, and a spacious interior for your campsite equipment. On it's use - It's fully adjustable, so make sure you place the back supports where they need to be before you hit the field. If you size it correctly on yourself you will be able to carry this comfortably for miles and miles. Still reading? Get the bag, size it, pack it, and go have some fun already! ... show more
