Description

NEW BOATS - USED BOATS How to Avoid Buying into Unexpected Problems Illustrated with over 250 photos by the author The most comprehensive personal guide to the evaluation and selection of both new and used mid size power boat. This book arms you with the extensive knowledge of a professional marine surveyor to help you navigate through the bewildering array of choices available in the marine market. It dares to reveal the truth about boats and the boat building industry, covering the "untouchable" issues such as quality and seaworthiness that the rest of the publishing industry is unwilling to reveal without risking their advertising revenues. Independently published by author and marine surveyor David Pascoe, who has no ties to the boat building industry, this book is not shaped by the conflicts of interest that motivate so much of the marine publishing business. Mid Size Power Boats focuses exclusively on fiberglass power boats of the cruiser class generally 30-55 feet, with discussions on the pros and cons of each type: Expresses, trawlers, motor yachts, multi purpose types, sport fishermen, and sedan cruisers. • Read this before buying your first boat!
Format: Paperback
I have owned multiple boats over several decades (one of them for almost 20 years), and after reading this book I can honestly say that everything in this book is helpful and will save you untold trouble and treasure. I wish I’d read it before getting my first boat, but for darn sure will be re-reading and refreshing my mind before getting any other boat. The cost of the book and the time it takes you to understand the contents will pay you back many times over. Sadly the author passed away in 2018, so we will not be getting further revisions from him, but the lessons from this book will not change for many years to come, so his hard work can live on and be your gain. ... show more

  • Buy it read it, keep it
Format: Paperback
This book is worth reading and retaining as a reference. The author provide important insights into boats that give the reader access to his knowledge and experience in a very effective, easy to read style. if I lost this book I'd buy it again, and that about as good a review as I can give.

  • It's nice to have clear
Format: Paperback
It's nice to have clear, concise information about what's really available on the boat market and the realities of owning a boat from someone who does not have a vested interest in selling boats. An excellent book that will steer you in the right direction.

  • Great advise
Format: Paperback
I am a first time boat buyer. I would have made more than one costly mistake had I not taken time to read David Pascoe's book. I recommend this to any boat buyer to keep a level mind and get more of what you want in your purchase.

  • Info current as if 2002
Format: Paperback
Still reading. Good info. Pictures are not the best. Info dated current circa 2002. However, for poor boys like me that is perfect.

  • Very good but dated
Format: Paperback
I learned a lot more about what to look for in a used boat. However, this was written in 2003 and a lot of newer technology is now utilized in boats that is not covered. Several popular brands are also omitted from his ratings of builders.

  • Used boat required reading
Format: Paperback
This book was very complete and very helpful. It had pictures where needed to make it easy to understand what was hard to describe in words. Thank you David Pascoe for a job well done.
