I used these magnets once and the damage is very clear. These are not rust proof, and require some more serious cleaning than I anticipated (soap, water, dry). They're really strong but not the strongest, as they're extremely hard to get apart if they touch (personal experience) and I recommend keeping them in the Styrofoam blocks they come in, as those are really good for keeping their attraction at bay. The flat one is stronger, able to lift around 20 pounds of round metal off a lake bed, while the other is more versatile as it picks up things on both sides. I don't know how the advertised force is measured, but it does not apply to metal objects underwater. You can't haul up bikes and stuff like that from the bottom of the ocean with these, but small metal objects work. As for damage, they rust easy, as shown in the pics. They were used for around 3 hours, before being washed and dried imediatley after. They're a good introduction to magnet fishing, but you'll want something stronger and hardier if you want to progress this hobby. ... show more

The magnets each aren't 650lb its 650lb combined i tested them out and max out at 295lbs each its a great set for magnet fishing

These work very well. We were able to retrieve a screwdriver and part of a minnow trap that were lost by our boat dock. I have tried some "magnet fishing" but haven't found anything interesting yet. I think I haven't tried the right place yet. One thing to be careful of...I was trying to use both magnets at once to raise something that was partially made of wood. One of the magnets slipped and contacted the other one. If it happens to you, the only way to separate them that I could find was to slide them sideways away from each other, pushing one against a fixed object, like a pole or a street curb, etc. You (or at least I) can NOT pull them straight apart! Of course, that is also the best way to remove them from any item you happen to find but that is considerably easier. ... show more

Girlfriend fell and twisted her ankle trying to rescue her magnet. Not the magnets fault but it was really difficult to remove from a heavy piece of submerged metal.

Overall, it’s a great product!! The carrying case is great, magnets are powerful, the rope is actually good rope. The only issue I have with this whole setup is the locking Carabiner. The spin lock on it to keep it closed can go passed the end point of the threads. Causing the locking part to only be in contact with one half of the threads that it’s supposed to. Minor issue which is easily solved by going to a local home improvement store, That’s why I only give it 4 out of 5 stars. ... show more
