  • Absolutely phenomenal game! Runs flawlessly
Style: Metro Redux
I was wary to buy this considering the limitations of the Switch, but thankfully, my concerns were wrong. These two games are amazing. It's set in post apocalyptic Russia. Little bands of humans taking shelter in the underground trying to meek out a life. Monsters are everywhere. Different factions of humans fighting over power... There is also another aspect of enemy that I don't want to spoil. You'll see when you play it. The story is absolutely fantastic. The voice acting is on point and the world is very lived in. You'll believe these places actually exist. While it is a FPS, it gives you two options on how to experience the game play. One is more survival horror oriented, which limits resources, while the other is more action oriented. It's not open world, but for a linear style game, it's incredible how well they made each environment different. Play the 2033 game first, then the Last Light game after. They're such good games they made me buy and read the books they're based off of. If you're looking for a solid FPS to get invested in, Metro Redux is totally worth it ... show more

  • Excellent port of two very unique first person shooters
Style: Metro Redux
At the time of writing this short review, I just finished Metro 2033 - somewhere right at around 10 hours of playtime. I had played some of this game not long after the original version had released but recall getting stuck early on and giving up on it. Flash forward to 2020 and the improvements and additional gameplay options provided in the Redux package have breathed new life into these games for me. The ability to play in “Spartan” mode is what made vs broke this game experience for me. I’m not generally into meticulous, painful survival horror games - so being able to play through this first title with more ammo (more akin to a traditional shooter) was a must. The Metro games are heavy in atmosphere, immersive, depressing-yet-hopeful, and always tinged with a feeling of dread. While mostly linear per each progressing chapter, I found there were always secret areas in each small sandbox area to find if I searched hard enough. This always leads to an extra sense of reward for going off the beaten path. The gunplay and other actions all carry a unique weightiness to them. I grew to really appreciate the motions of wiping water or blood off of my visor, recharging flashlight batteries, reloading and firing my weapons, and crafting them to fit my play style. The flow of the game and breaking of chapters is done mostly well in my opinion. Enough to keep the pacing feeling quick while providing some momentary respite in some non-threatening NPC centers. I was consistently engaged and interested in the story, liked the lead protagonist and several comrades throughout, and easily immersed in this dark world. Very well done. While I can’t speak to Last Light yet (hope to start it soon), I can easily say that 2033’s port to the Switch was/is fantastic. The quality of graphics and FPS of the game was consistent and extremely impressive for being scaled down to fit and run on the Switch’s hardware. I had no graphical issues or frame drops throughout my 10ish hours of playtime. The work that the dev team put into this port is astonishing and I’m so glad they did it themselves. Easily one of the most impressive ports I’ve seen on the system so far (among Divinity Original Sin 2 and The Witcher 3). All in all, you are getting two excellent, atmospheric, immersive, gritty, pulse pounding first person shooters in this package. On top of that, it says the 10 hour DLC to Last Light is always included. That’s an amazing deal! Additionally, you have the options to play Survival or Spartan, depending on your preference, because it is the Redux versions. AND it’s ALL on the cart. No extra downloads required. That’s a HUGE plus in my book. Lastly, the game is already discounted on Amazon - and at around $40 this is an absolute steal. Couldn’t recommend enough. ... show more

  • Good game, but has some flaws
Style: Metro Redux
First of all I finished the first game Metro 2033. The game is very good and is structured similarly to Half-Life (a very old game). Before I get to the flaws: also let me say I like the fact both games are physically on the cart. Yes - there are downloads needed (Correction: there is NO additional download needed for Metro 2033 & Last Light - both full games are already on the cart), but at least it was not the cart for one game and a download code for the 2nd game. This way if someone else in my family wants to play the game they can play both games on their switch. The following maybe considered by some as spoilers, but not really??? Now to the game review itself: Like I said it is a very good game - story wise and play wise. However some things that I consider flaws really hurt the enjoyment of the game: many areas are very dark (of course you can increase the brightness) but then the brighter areas are not too bright. Two, this one is worst - in some parts of the game you are required to wear gas mask w/ replaceable filters. The problem is they are in short supply and it makes you rush through those areas. Unlike many games where you have time to look around to find items - the need for to replace filters make you rush. Side note: the game does support motion controls so that was good. ... show more

  • THE WHOLE THING IS HERE!
Style: Metro Redux
Metro Redux is the definitive edition of the Metro games that appears on the 360, PS3 and PC from a long time ago. This is one of the few games for the Switch for which everything is on the cart. No BS patches of any kind. No having to download the portion of the game that the company purposely omitted off of the cart. No cheap out jobs of any kind. IT'S ALL HERE! Just as how it all ought to be from old games released before the 2nd half of the 2000s. Of all the games on the Switch that got a physical release, this game did it right. ... show more
