  • very comfortable
Size: 9.5 Wide Color: Granite
I'm an older woman and not a hiker. But I was going on a week-long family trip to Iceland which is known for being very rainy. It was highly suggested that we should bring waterproof hiking boots. So I read the reviews and ordered these and then only remembered to "break them in" for an hour ONCE. I got to Iceland where we did 7 days of a lot of walking with me in new boots. They were great. They were comfortable right from the beginning. I can't attest to how waterproof they are because we were very lucky that we got very little rain - and only at night or while we were doing long drives. By total coincidence both of my adult daughters and 3 of their elementary age children showed up in Iceland with Merrell boots as well. No one had any complaints about their boots. ... show more

  • So far so good!
Size: 7.5 Wide Color: Granite
I decided to splurge on a quality pair of hiking boots for an upcoming trip in October. I normally wear a size 7.5 however, I decided to order the 7.5 wide based on other reviews and I’m glad I did, they fit great! I immediately wanted to test this pair so I headed out for a local hike, I tested these on steep inclines, slippery surfaces during my hike. I think I have a winner here with this pair. I found them to be very comfortable and the traction is great. Now I’m interested to see how long they hold up. ... show more

  • Sized up
Size: 10 Color: Grey Dark
Great boots. I ordered my usual size, but as others suggested in the first place, I returned the 9.5 for a 10. I need an insert to fill up a little volume since my feet are narrow. Tightening the laces doesn't cause a big buckle in the fabric which is a requirement for me. They feel like they were actually made for a woman's foot. Hooray. The insoles provided are some of the nicest "standard" insoles I've ever seen. I did very little break-in before taking them out in Appalachia on vacation. No blisters or slipping. The midrise doesn't dig into my ankle in all the wrong places. ... show more

  • Never once bothered me on a major hike!
Size: 7.5 Wide Color: Altitude
I'm normally a 7.5 in running shoes, so I felt comfortable ordering the same size for a hiking boot. My toes had just the right amount of space without excess wiggle room. I did however go with recommendations to get the wide fit. It's much heavier than my normal shoes (duh), and I had planned on breaking them in throughout the week before my Mt. Fuji climb in Japan. Due to schedule conflicts, I unfortunately did not get to wear them until the day before the climb. I was worried because these are uncomfortable if I'm not moving, and I was sitting a lot in trains and buses to my destination that night. It's almost like these shoes have to be in active mode to feel good! On the climb, these were incredibly COMFORTABLE!! I was shocked that I never once actually thought about my feet or the shoes and they had phenomenal grip on wet surfaces. I normally don't have high-top shoes and was also concerned on how that would feel on my ankles. I wore long socks and didn't feel anything at all! It did rain at random moments during the climb and I never once had sloshy socks, they worked great in keeping my feet dry. Wearing them for a 5.5 hour steep climb and a 3.5 hour steep descend, these shoes were absolutely amazing! I highly recommend them! ... show more

  • Comfort and support
Size: 8 Color: Black/Multi
I use these shoes every day. I move a lot both standing and sitting for my work so these are very comfortable and give great support for my knees and back. I had this style before in a 7 1/2. When ordering these, there was a recommendation that they can fit small, which is what I found. I went up just a half size to a size 8 and the fit is perfect. ... show more

  • Awesome and comfortable hiking shoes.
Size: 10.5 Color: Granite
This is my second pair of these shoes. I used the first pair for 10 years for frequent hiking and found them to be very comfortable. I love the ankle support. The grip is superb both going up and down some fairly steep mountains. I’m replacing them only because they are looking worn out and had to order a larger size as my foot seems to be growing as I age . ... show more

  • Not for me, but still a good product
Size: 9 Color: Black/Multi
Personal cons that may help you. 1. I felt the arch support but these boots felt like they had a high heel height, almost like a chunky combat boot. I want my boots relatively flat, because too much heel height isn’t good for my hips. 2. The ankle height is odd. Not a sneaker but not a boot. I would have preferred one or the other, not an in between. A tightly tied shoe made the ankle feel strange. 3. I’m between 8.5-9. I’m never bigger than a 9 and usually have room for socks with a 9. This hit my toes in the front toe box. Aka Runs small 4. the overall shoe felt loose/big around my foot. I like my shoes snug. It’s a preference. I’d you have wide feet, this might be a hood option. Overall the boot is high quality and super cool looking. But the fit wasn’t for me. ... show more

  • Like I'm walking on clouds
Size: 11 Wide Color: Bungee Cord
I bought these hiking shoes for traction and waterproofing for my short walks on forest trails, which can be muddy. My feet have lots of problems, so it's essential I have very good support and shock absorption. On all these points, the shoes are perfect. When I get back home after a walk, I don't even think to take them off -- they're that good! ... show more
