  • comfortable, great fit
Size: 7 Color: Granite
Love these boots! I bought them because they were the "good value" hiking boot recommendation by Wirecutter. Comfortable from the first day I put them on, sturdy and supportive as I hiked in the Smoky Mountains, and they made excellent winter hiking boots. I like these so much that I bought the lower-cut variety for summer hiking. ... show more

  • Was going to return it, but it grew on me.
Hi, my Keen Targhee 2 hiking boots got snagged and I needed a replacement. I wanted a sturdy boot with good support. I needed less sturdiness, but a lot of support and impact absorption, as I had injured my ankle and needed some "give" and not something so snug. I heard these Merrills were super popular and with less sturdiness and ankle support, exactly what I needed at this time, so gave the Merrills a try. I bought granite as everything else sold out in my size (8 wide) around the holidays. When I first looked at the Color granite, it looked "boring sneakers" (especially with the Blue jeans I wear) and not my typical Brown ones that just screamed "hiking boots" with more flash...what I usually wear. These Granite colored ones looked like very low key sneakers, the other Merrill Colors scream more of typical hiking boot, most especially the Brown ones like "Bungee cord" or "Braken Purple". anyway, I was going to need these boots, most especially to wear on my other uninjured foot to provide some rock solid support and stability. What really pleased me was unlike the Keens, these were so much lighter, almost like I was wearing nothing at all. They are waterproof, and really worked out when I was watering the plants on the patio with a leaky water hose. Because they provided the support, grip (the special Verbam sole did not slip at all anywhere!!), were very lightweight, easy on my overworked foot, and I had to wear them everywhere I walked, I appreciated that the Colors were more muted. So, it worked out well. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased. These are great everyday "shoes" (hiking boots with give on the ankle, that looked like GREAT SHOES with no slippage, great absorption of Impact, and lots of stability), I appreciated being able to wear them everywhere and it provided all the stability, lightweight, waterproof, non-slippage, and Impact absorption. I needed for my overworked...one working foot, as my other foot healed in a cast. I felt no hesistation using these with crutches all the time. After over a month of using the boot so much, it still feels as good as day one. This speaks to the quality of craftmanship. Incredible. Mind you, I never used these boots on the trail. I'm looking forward to in hopefully a few weeks. I will probably walk on a flat trail with minimal rocks, and I'm sure these will work out and be perfectly fine. Thank you Merrill for such fine footwear. ... show more

  • The GOAT of Hiking Boots
Size: 8.5 Color: New Monument/Fuchsia
This is the best hiking boot ever. They are so comfortable and there is a lot of cushions exactly where you need. The traction is very impressive, traversing rocks, flat, and sandy trails. I felt very stable. Haven't had the opportunity to test the waterproof, but I'm not worried, as the boot has already exceeded my expectations. My foot easily slid in, and I ordered my normal size 8.5. However, I agree with other reviewers that if you want to wear thick socks you should order half size up as the fit is snug. I almost purchased a different pair, but I am so glad I landed on this and very satisfied with my decision. ... show more

  • COMFORT AND GOOD LOOKING
Size: 9.5 Wide Color: Granite/Marine
Exactly as described in looks, fit and comfort; light weight with lots of support. I have had multiple surgeries on my foot and expect these to be just what I need.

  • Great waterproof boot Great waterproof boot
Size: 9 Color: Aluminum
I am not an avid hiker and this was my first time buying and wearing any type of hiking boot. I wanted something not too expensive as an introduction boot to hike in Yosemite. I got this boot in a 9 when I’m usually an 8.5 per the recommendation to size up. The fit felt good I have a narrow/skinny foot so I did feel I had wiggle room in my toes but not enough where my foot was sliding everywhere. I didn’t just wear regular nike dry fit socks because that’s all I had but I bet hiking thicker socks would have felt better. After walking/ hiking in Yosemite all day in the wet/snowy floor these boots held up well. My feet did not suffer at all and I was very comfortable wearing them for the first time for several hours. I didn’t have any blisters or pain which was nice since I didn’t break them in at all! They had great grip in the slippery wet snow and I felt good ankle support and confident hiking uphill and downhill in these boots! ... show more

  • Its not for me - high top boots
I was really excited to purchase my first pair of hiking boots, especially after being recommended this brand and model. When they arrived, everything seemed perfect—comfortable fit, great design, and they felt solid on my first hike. That initial outing went smoothly with no issues at all. However, things changed on the second day. About four miles into the hike, I started experiencing sharp pain where the top of the boot rubbed against the bone just above my ankle. It became extremely uncomfortable, but I was too far in to turn back. I had no choice but to push through the pain for the remainder of the hike, which lasted nearly four hours. Still hopeful, I decided to give the boots another try the next day on a 6.5-mile hike. Unfortunately, the same issue occurred, and by the end, I was practically dragging my leg back to the car. I even tried adding an extra sock for cushioning, but it didn’t help and made things worse. To be clear, the boots themselves are well-made and initially felt very comfortable. But the pressure on that specific part of my ankle has made them unwearable for me. I don’t know if returns are possible after use, but I can’t wear these boots again. I’m really disappointed, as I had high hopes for them. ... show more

  • Great Shoes
Size: 7.5 Color: Granite
Very happy with purchase. I have the Moab 3 shoe also but now I wanted the mid for ankle protection. It gives good support but comfortable as the other Moab 3 shoe does. I love the waterproof finish. I always get a half size larger but the regular width was fine as long as I didn’t wear heavy socks. Great shoes ... show more

The brindle color is lighter irl which is what i was banking on, so cute. Im normally a 7.5 but i have slighter wider feet so i ordered a half size up (8) after reading the comments. Fit perfectly, so comfy. Not heavy or super hot at all. Im lake tahoe ready, hope these last me the whole summer😈
