  • Best hiking boots ever.
Size: 8 Color: Granite
Took out of box and immediately went on a 12 mile hike. NO break-in necessary, boots were perfect in all aspects! I have a very narrow foot and these size 8's were true to size, functional, lightweight, waterproof and breathable and couldn't be more comfortable. Tried Danner, LaSportiva's, hokas as well with "try before you buy" and these by FAR were my first choice from the beginning. Will be buying multiple pairs for the future. VERY happy with this Merrell product! ... show more

  • Fantastic out of the box
Size: 10 Color: Granite
I needed to replace some Salomon hikers I've had for10 years and had been through several countries in Africa and Asia as well as treks through Europe. I had tried Merrells in the past and they never fit but I wasn't happy with the quality of the current Salomon line and just tried these on a whim. I was all ready with a roll of moleskin but these were so comfortable, there was no break-in needed. They look good, have great support and there was no sliding around the toe box. I've now done multiple 4-5 mile hikes (moderate by All Trails rating) and am still very happy with them. ... show more

  • Very glad I bought these boots!
Size: 7.5 Color: Granite
Previously i had several pairs of keen targhee hiking boots which i really liked but the way they were made there was a seam that always rubbed uncomfortably on my big toe, causing me pain if i wore them for long periods of time. I was worried these boots might do the same thing but they dont. they fit wonderfully - lots of room in the toe box (i did go 1/2 size up from what i was previously wearing) but even with the spacious toe box my feet do not move around in them and i dont get any uncomfortable rubbing or blisters. these do say they are waterproof, but unfortunately they are not gore-tex so im sure the waterproof layer will only stay waterproof for so long, but thats the case with any kind of boot made from leather or suede. i hope these are as rugged as the targhee hiking boots were as i live in colorado and lots of the hiking i do is over terrain with sharp rocks which tend to destroy shoes which are made of man-made materials. so far they are holding up good and they are very very comfortable. oh - my only other complaint is the shoe laces - not a big deal but they are round laces which i never like - they come untied easily and you have to be careful not to accidentally trip on them when this happens, so i replaced the laces with half-round laces which are much better and stay tied. wish merrell would switch the kind of laces because i dont see any advantage to round laces. ... show more

  • Great Fit
Size: 9.5 Wide Color: Granite
I have very wide feet, and have had surgery for pinched nerves in both of them. This makes finding comfortable, good fitting shoes hard. These hiking boots are a hit! The width is perfect! One thing to note; the insoles do have an arch support, which I can't stand. I removed them and added memory foam insoles. Perfect! ... show more

  • Lightweight, great support and traction, Runs a little hot
Size: 8 Color: Granite
I’m an avid hiker and runner who up until now relied on their running sneakers (with an extra pair of socks or two) for even rigorous or wet hikes. I have a high arch and a bone spur on the back of both my heels that make finding shoes very difficult: lack of support leaves my hips and knees aching and the wrong back to the shoe leaves me bloody, so I don’t like to waste time and money if I find something that works ok. This winter, though, I’m planning a hike in icy mountain conditions plus need a new pair of boots for regular snow days in NYC, so decided it was time to bite the bullet. I did a lot of research and picked these to try first and I am so glad I found these! Thank you to all the reviewers here for your help! These are much lighter in weight then I thought they would be. I am somewhere between a 7.5 and 8 in shoes and went with the 8. They fit perfectly: not too snug but not at all loose. It’s hard to describe- they secure around your ankle and then they’re so light, they sort of just gently cradle around your foot. They don’t feel “cushy” like my sneakers but my feet feel supported and are completely protected from feeling the impact of hitting the ground. I took them for an inaugural 6mile hike in the small mountain reservation near my parents house in NJ, without any breaking in. The arch support is great, no aches and pains in my joints or feet. Miraculously no blisters, either. The conditions here are currently unseasonably warm and very humid, with heavy ground cover of wet leaves and pools of mud. The traction on the wet leaves/rocky mountain terrain, even while being pulled by a German Shepherd, was fantastic. I didn’t slip at all and my feet stayed dry. Plus I discovered how nice it is to have some extra ankle support. These boots did run a little hot, which is why I gave four stars. I tend to run hot myself. The good news is that even though they felt a little hot, my feet didn’t sweat (I was sweating otherwise in the warm humidity). These will be great boots for when the chill comes back and through the winter and early spring for both nature hiking and urban hiking through rain/snow. ... show more
