When I began my search for a good pair of hiking boots, I decided on these boots after reading the reviews. I was NOT disappointed! First of all, the boots look great! Most importantly, they are comfortable, and fit nicely around the foot! They also support your ankles, which is great to help keep you from twisting your ankle while hiking. I wear these boots for everyday wear, especially during the winter! The quality is very good! For sizing, I would suggest you order up half a size. Because I have foot problems, I needed more padding inside the boot, so I ordered up, to make room for the shoe inserts. Ordering up a half size should be enough for most. Looks nice, good quality, ankle support, comfortable, great fit! What's not to like?

These are my second pair and they were just as great as the first. I made the mistake of waiting to get these until a week before a huge backpacking trip. I was nervous about breaking in time but I worried for nothing. I have standard size 8, fairly narrow feet and moderately flat fee - these work great for me.

I've heard many friends & family over the years say Merrell's are the most comfortable shoes they've ever had so when I got a new job I decided to finally try them out. They weren't lying! I've had these for 10 months now and am on my feet on concrete 8 to 10 hours a day, 5 days a week and these are just as comfortable as when I first received them. I didn't have any sore feet the first few weeks to break them in at all. The very tip of the sole has peeled away a teeny-tiny bit but, I work on my knees a lot as well, so it's constantly scraping on the floor. Other than that, 1 shoe string has just started to fray. I'd highly recommend these boots for hiking or work purposes.

I appreciate that this boot feels light. I'd previously worn lower cut boots, or trail runners, so was concerned these would feel heavy. They feel great! I'd read prior reviews about sizing up. I generally wear a 9.5 or 10, so ordered the 10.5. They are big but not too big, especially when wearing my heavier socks. If I add a Dr. Schols they should be perfect. They are a bit warm, but that is probably because they are water-resistant. I have been on two fairly long hikes, and didn't feel like I even had to break them in - they were comfortable from the get-go.

Merrill has always been a great brand for me, so while I haven't field tested these on a trail yet, I don't expect any quality issues. I was concerned about the sizing, having read several comments about the running small. I took a gamble and ordered the same size as my running shoes, and it paid off. In my casual shoes, I am an 8. I ordered these in 8.5s, and the fit is perfect for me. My toes end right beofre where the black reinforcement strip starts on the shoe. Nice room in the toe box for thicker socks or foot swelling, and good fit in the mid-foot and heal so that my feet aren't sliding around. They have good arch support and nicely cushioned ankle support. It has a firmer step than a trail runner, but not so stiff that a brief jog or fast walk would be uncomfortable.

had to order a whole size larger - and still a little snug. waited until we did a couple miles to review. did appx 20 miles in 3 days - only issue is the padding at the achilles - i think that's me - it always irritates me - feels stiff like it's pushing in . grip was great - climbed a lot of wet boulders - no slippage at all . all around very good. I felt very confident that i could get thru anything with these.

I have feet problems. I bought these for hiking a couple of years ago and have started wearing them on workdays in the forest. They give great support and are comfortable even after a long day. The have a good tread for most terrain. My luck as always been that I try to reorder something and it has been discontinued. Now I have a back up!

I had a pair of these in a 1/2 size larger, which were fine with a heavy sock but a bit loose with more of a warm-weather sock. So I bought these a 1/2 size smaller and they are perfect. Just consider swapping out the insole they came with (which are at least serviceable) with more of a dedicated insole.
