  • Sizes Run Small (Moab 3 Hiking Boots/shoes)
Size: 9 Color: Beluga
First time to purchase and keep Merrell shoes. The previous two pair were too small. I wear size 8-8.5 shoes. I did purchase a pair of 9's once before, and they were large. These fit slightly tight, but, a simple readjustment of the shoe-strings, to be looser, should correct that. I'm not wealthy enough to be able to afford a pair of shoes at $100+ so, it is good to get well made shoes at a semi-affordable price. (Considering cost of producing a pair of shoes is about $10, I have to still question the $50 range; but, seeing the gouging at the stores-- where they have to pay exhorbent rents, I guess it stands to reason). Thanks Amazon for creating an atmosphere of extreme competition. Workmanship: 91/100 The shoes themselves seem to be solid shoes. Not old school solid; but, definitely look to be light years ahead of the rest out there. As far as that goes, that allows them to squeak by with an A- score. The soles are some of the best I have ever seen. I doubt they'll wear down any time soon. The soles are reminiscent of the tread on breand new tires: nice and thick, with superior traction. Style: 95/100 I did not particularly care for the color or look from the picture. What I wanted was functioning shoes, at a reasonable or at least relatively reasonable cost. What I received, however, was something much nicer looking than the pictures appeared to be; although, looks and appeal are in fact in the eye of the beholder. However, this "beholder's" eyes were pleasantly surprised, and pleased. Value: 80/100 Once again, when it cost about $10 a pair to make, and pay the toddlers in China a dollar a day (or less), I find it hard to consider $60-100/pr "value". Based on that alone, no, there's absolutely no beneficial value to consumers. However, add expected durability, and comparable prices, and, the fact prices are much lower on Amazon, I can concede the point. There is therefore, perceived value, which is at play; therefore, considering the prices people are willing to pay for shoes, 30-60% lower prices adds value to the consumer. I have mentioned typical retail prices. $100+ for these shoes; would they still hold to a higher value? In this case, the value would be held in quality, and whether they hold up; which I do believe they will, based on what others who are more familiar with this brand than I am, have said. In this case, yes, I would still give the shoes a high rating. If a pair of shoes lasts several (2-3) years and hold up, then the price tends to become downgraded. For example, when I was in my youth, and Reebok's were taking off, I purchased a pair that lasted but a few months; thereby increasing my shoe budget. If these hold up even for two years, the value is increased greatly. Overall: 92/100 These shoes do have a stout feel to them. The biggest downside I can realize is they run smaller and tighter than I am used to, While I am at the beginning of my journey with Merrell shoes, I anticipate a much longer journey with them, and that is a good thing. Recommendation: Until further notice, I highly recommend these shoes; while wishing they run wide and more in line with standard shoes. ... show more

  • Durable and comfortable
Size: 12.5 Color: Granite
Merrill has been my favorite shoe company for a number of years. The Moab works well as a casual shoe and as a good and rugged hiking and walker. The shoes are durable and have the advantage of being well ventilated to keep your feet dry. My only criticism is the glue used does not seem as long lasting as past purchases. Seams disbonding between the sole and the toe and the lowers to the sole occurred with this purchase, though I put miles on my shoes. Overall though I had to re-glue them, I still consider them a good purchase and continue to wear them almost daily. ... show more

  • Perfect hiking shoes!
Size: 9 Color: Earth
I bought these to replace a pair from about 6 years ago that were worn out. This is a newer version. These are sturdy, comfortable and most importantly waterproof. I expect they will last for several years as did my last pair.

  • very nice hiking shoe
the short: great hiking shoe with good grip, best for average feet with a decent natural arch the long: excellent hiking shoe for most if your feet have a decent arch. not for flat foot types or those who need more support. it is a bit stiff and does have a bit of a break in period. also, the exterior is somewhat suede-like so it's nice if you're looking for a more traditional leather-look. ran true to size for me. ... show more

  • Super durable and comfortable. Used for daily hikes.
Size: 12 Color: Beluga
I have nearly 1000 miles on a pair of Merrell Moab 3 and they still feel like new. Bought a new pair because I wanted a different color. I walk daily thru State parks in snow, ice, mud, rock, grass, water and dirt. Clean them in a bucket and let them air dry. My shoes do not have an easy life. I have flat feet, the support in these shoes allow me to hike pain free. I've tried several different brands, for me, nothing performs as well as Merrell. ... show more

  • Nearly perfect.
I'm on the second or third pair of these shoes that I've owned and for the price, I don't know that I could get much better. They have wonderful support and traction; I've eased over slick surfaces with these that my fellow hikers have taken spills on (NOTE: I am totally a hero so obviously I saved them from falling) I have pretty wide feet and these accommodate pretty well. I only had mild discomfort after more than ten straight hours of walking over varied terrain, which is more than I can say about a lot of cheaper hiking shoes I've owned. They are NOT boots, so don't expect the ankle support you might need if you're in terrain that would need it. These may help you not to slip as easily, but they will NOT stop your ankles from twisting if you do wind up slipping/falling/doing a thing that would twist your ankle, like....forest colossus wrestling? I don't know where I was going with that My first pair lasted me three VERY SOLID years. I expect my most recent pair will last even longer now that I work in an office and no longer wrestle polar bears on the tundra after hiking down the foothills on my way to work. (You think I'm lying, but ... show more

  • Best around

These are some of the best hiking shoes I have ever owned.. They are well-made and comfortable, provide good arch support and for the most part last a long time.
