  • Works great as a women's hiking boot too!
Size: 8 Color: Talc
I normally wear a women's size 9 Wide shoe, which would equate to a size men's 7.5 Medium. However, for hiking, these boots in a men's size 8 Medium were perfect. The colors are very gender neutral, and I have received numerous complements on these boots. I wore them on a multi-day hiking trip with zero break-in and no problems whatsoever. I do use my own insoles because of various arch problems, and I was able to easily put them into these boots. Excellent comfort and support. A good balance of being relatively lightweight while as sturdy. These are my first boots with ankle support, and I really liked it. ... show more

  • A perfect boot that is roomy and ideal for those with sensitive feet
Size: 11 Wide Color: New Olive/Gum
I'm a picky old man who just had to throw away the pair of leather hiking/work boots that I have had for more than 25 years. I have an extra-wide foot and have foot neuropathy (pain and sensitivity). I also have serious back problems. All these things combine to make buying any kind of shoe or boot a problem. I read the reviews on this boot and it talked about them being "roomy". I thought that was a strange way of describing any kind of footwear. However, after trying these on I knew exactly what they meant. My neuropathy means that any pressure anywhere on my foot is going to bother me. My normal shoe size is 10-1/2. When I wear boots, I always wear extra-thick socks, usually wool. So I bought a 1/2-size larger 11-wide pair of boots. As soon as I tried them on, I understood the concept of "roomy". Before tightening the laces, there was space everywhere, if that makes sense. They weren't tight in the toes, or the width or across the top of my foot, or in the heel. The way the laces and general boot design are it allowed me to tighten the boot to fit all parts of my foot just right. No extra pressure on my sensitive feet! The boots are not ultra-light, but they are light enough for my old legs. Once tightened, they have a solid feel about them. The soles of the boots are almost sticky and grip maybe a little more than I would like. However, from a safety point of view, this solid grip feel will be ideal when hiking, but it may feel a little weird when walking around the house. It's not a problem, just different. They are perfect for their intended use. I have a high arch, and these come with quite a high arch, almost a solid removable insole. Since I didn't feel the arch was high enough, I ordered a pair of high-arch insoles. After I ordered the new insoles, I pulled out the original ones and was surprised by how high the stock insole arch is. I don't think my replacements will be any higher. Bottom line is these boots are just about perfect for me. I doubt they will last 25 years but I am extremely pleased with them. ... show more

  • Very comfortable. Wide feet needed a half size larger. UPDATE-IMPORTANT
Size: 12 Wide Color: Earth
I ordered the Merrell maob 3 mid in 11.5 wide. The fit was fine, but when I put on thicker socks it was a bit snug. Changing to 12 wide worked perfectly, it gave me a little more toe room that benefits from thicker socks for fall and winter walking. Sole of the shoe when walking is slightly firmer than expected, but was mentioned in reviews; I hope it breaks in a bit and softens up with some miles on them. Very happy at the price point of just above $100. Solid shoe and I'm happy with them. Update 08/31/2024. These are great mid hiking shoes........but I found amazing boots a day later. Go to REI buy a lifetime membership (30 bucks) and buy something cheap. Go back after 24 hours and buy a set of Danner 600 leaf GTX hiking boots for men (grizzly brown/Rodeo Red) and get $30 off. My boot code was "62302". They are on sale until September 2nd 2024 for $164, but if you get a member card and use it 24 hours later, you get lifetime membership and $30 off and you get these AMAZING boots for 132 and tax. If you have 11.5 in 4EE feet you will thank me later. If you have narrower feet stick with the maob 3 mids for half the price. I bought a pair of Danners 20 years ago and they are still amazing. No shade for the Merrell Moab 3, but for a wide foot the 62302 Danner is like a silk slipper. OMG I love these boots, I am so sorry Merrell......... but I found true love. ... show more

  • Excellent comfort, middle of the road longevity
Size: 10.5 Wide Color: Earth
I tried this boot on along with 3 other top shelf offerings from Solomon, Keen, and La Sportiva and the fit of these blew the rest outta the water. These were by FAR the widest booting the toe box and that’s exactly what I needed. All the boots were the same 10.5 extra-wide (which I think is a 2E but I could be wrong) I really need probably a 10 4E but that’s a whole nother story. Out of box comfort 9/10, stiffness 6/10 not very stiff in the sole nor the ankle. Which was perfect for Nee Hampshire hikes. Waterproofness was a 4/5. So I’ve owned them 3 years and now suddenly they aren’t waterproof. It’s night and day and it happened suddenly. Also the retention strap for the lace (the highest lace holder) broke about 6 months ago which of as a shame cuz it’s built into the boot body. Overall a great boot but I didn’t get that many miles out of them which is disappointing. 3 years may sound like a long time but when you consider the actual time worn they should’ve held up better for longer. ... show more

  • So far a good pair of boots for a casual weekend hiker
Size: 10.5 Color: Earth
I bought these in late June of 2025. I've never owned hiking boots, always walking in work boots or sneakers/trainers. I am a weekend sometimes hiker, not someone who goes on hundred mile+ treks. I am happy with the purchase and would buy these again. They are comfortable. I have 20 miles in them over three hikes now, including a nine mile one over medium terrain. I'm heading out again this morning, and I definitely don't dread putting them on. The boots give a good grip, I've had no blisters, and they have a nice "roll" to them when striding. I've hit wet patches but no real extended slop, so I can't speak to how they handle water. I am a weekend, casual hiker and these have been nice companions for doing that. I have notions about doing some longer hikes, and I've been hiking with a backpack, in addition to doing longer regular daily walks, and I want to see if there will suit for that down the road. As I put the mileage on them, I'll circle back to this review to give my experience as to durability and suitability for longer hikes as I get there. ... show more

  • Awesome boots. Boots are heavy!
They held up with most use carrying a 32lb backpack, and i am 180lb. I walked four miles, every other day on the Lewis and Clark trail on the coast, near Seaside, Oregun. They really were water repelent, but if it was a marsh, they were wet feet situation (watch your step!). Think about 1/2 size bigger if you want to double thick your Smart wool socks for the cold. It is easier to deal with double socks, than strict boot socks. ... show more

  • Perfect Hiking Boots!
Absolutely LOVE these hiking boots. They fit perfectly and are very comfortable. I wore them while summitting a 14,000+ ft. peak in Colorado and they worked excellent! I'll definitely consider buying them again, when the time comes, and I need new boots.
