I wear custom orthotics in my shoes. These shoes have proven to be very comfortable and reliable in combination with those Orthotics. The only problem I have with the shoes is that it’s top cloth eyelet tends to break after about six months. I make the repair myself because I can and because the company only offers $25 for the repair. I will point out that I buy multiple pairs of the shoes at a time. Usually three pairs. I number the inside of the tongue so they can’t be mismatched, and I rotate the use of my shoes. So, even if the shoe is a year old, it may only get four months of use. This is why it’s an issue. More importantly, even though I have multiple pairs of the same shoe in use at the same time, it still takes that shoe out of service. I usually make the repair myself using a small link of chain. It works well, and I really don’t care what it looks like. But, you should know that I am not sure they have fixed this yet. On the latest pairs (3) I bought they have changed the design of the top cloth eyelet. But I have yet to test to see if they have solved the problem. I will point out that I keep buying the shoe because they are comfortable, it is stable on all surfaces, good in all climates, and they wear well. I have the materials on hand to sew a new metal eyelet in place in case they break. This problem is annoying because I have contacted the company two times specifically stating I was not looking for a new pair of shoes or money. I simply wanted them to fix the design problem. If this new design solves the problem, I would be glad to amend this review in a year and a half. I do not think that is an unreasonable length of time since I have three pair of shoes in service at a time. (If the company reads this, I have told you about this problem several times. I included numerous pictures of numerous pairs in which this has occurred. I also included photos of my fixes. I don’t know why the top three eyelets are not metal anyway. If this problem is not fixed this recent order will be my last. )

I have an issue with a bone spur on one of my heels and nearly impossible to find a comfortable shoe. But this boot comes pretty close to being perfect for me. I like the style, traction and comfort of it, but most importantly it has a deeper heel pocket than any other shoe I've tried (and that includes Asolo). While at the same time my feet feel secure in the boot. I would buy this again when these wear out. As far as size, I normally wear anywhere from a 10.5 to 11, but got this in 11.5 and feels like the correct size you may need to go a 1/2 size larger than normal.

Arrived today. Put some lighter weight woolers on and they fit really well. I wore them around today and the are very nice. Styling is nice, too. I like the Vibram soles and they should work well in the winter. I had some other boots that were slipping on asphalt that was wet. These should be better. So far I like them out of the box. I will update if something else comes up, but for now I am happy with them. I have had Merrill boots before and they are always a good fit and wear well.

This weekend, I hiked 11 miles in these boots through wet ravines, creek crossings, over rocks and roots, and along overgrown dirt trails. These provided me great traction, dry feet, plenty of support over uneven ground, and breathability in the heat. The soles are just firm enough to provide the support I need, yet flexible enough to keep each step natural. The shoe uppers is very soft, comfortable and lightweight. The boots really didn't need any breaking in before their first hike. I expected them to rub on the ankle bones like other mid-height boots I've used. But these felt incredibly comfortable the first time I wore them. This weekend, I noticed that my toes were sliding against the front of the shoes on steep downhills. However, I tightened the lacing when I stopped for lunch and I didn't have any problem the rest of the day. I was able to get these on sale at a great price. But even at full price, these are a great boot. Edit: I just completed 40 miles of backcountry hiking in Yellowstone with these boots and I couldn't be more happy with them! From river crossings, miles of bison trails through grassy meadows, steep ups and downs on dirt and loose rock, and averaging 10 miles per day, these were perfect in every sense. No blisters. Everything I said in the original review held true.

These are well made shoes but they are not for me. I require more cushion in the heels as well as arch support. It just wasn't a good fit. I opted to order the Moab Prime shoe which is more waterproof and has the extra support my feet seem to require. I decided to review these shoes even though I returned them. They run true to size and are very well made.

Crazy thing is I had two pairs sent to me through the Amazon Wardrobe thing. One pair grey, the others brown. Identical except in color. Not sure how but it turned out great. The brown ones were super tight and uncomfortable. The grey ones fit amazingly well. The difference in the two was night and day. I double checked they were both the same size, model, etc. and they were. I can’t explain why there is such a difference but I kept the grey ones. Couldn’t be happier.

Shoes felt great. Unfortunately, I could not find my size. I first tried my shoe size 12W. Way too big, I could fit an entire finger behind my heel. Returned for a 10.5W (Amazon recommended a 10, not sure what they based it on). My toe came just to the edge of the shoe. When I went to try and return for an 11W, they didn't have my color listed for that size. When I had the shoes here to try on, they felt great. I do plan on buying them in my size and the color I want based on how they felt from trying them on.

I have had these for about a week and so far they are great bought for everyday use/work and hiking. I wear a size 11 so that's what I ordered and they fit fine. They are very comfortable and are breaking in just fine. For hiking and scrambling up rocks, they will be awesome. I think they are water resistant.. up to a point. Hope this helps.
