  • Very comfortable shoes
Size: 11 Wide Color: Granite
I love hiking but I have always worn running shoes. I've tended to stay away from expensive shoes costing hundreds of dollars and instead buy a set of running shoes for my every day needs and then hiking shoes when I got hiking. That's not often in Florida as the only mountains around are the dump sites. I bought these hiking shoes for everyday and so far, they're comfortable. They are not as comfortable as running shoes. the padding underneath is a bit firmer than running shoes but that's too be expected. I typically run up and down stairs and so I'll be a bit more cautious with these. I'm really happy with the purchase. I paid more for these than any shoe I have ever bought but the last pair of $75 running shoes I bought lasted only one season. I will bet these shoes out last those shoes which showed extensive tread wear. Now I have a pair of shoes I can go hiking in Colorado as well as wear for every day. ... show more

  • Hard to get a good fit: Either size runs small or inconsistent production?
Size: 11 Color: Bark Brown
I read the reviews, and tried the shoes locally: I knew I needed a 10 1/2, because I'd tried on a 10 1/2 MOAB 2 Waterproof shoe. Well, I ordered a different color than what I tried on; Same shoe, size and model, but a different color. However, when the 10 1/2's arrived, the shoes were too short. Not a problem with Amazon! I put them right back into the box, returned them unworn, and ordered 11's! A week later the 11's arrived. Yaay! The new size 11's seemed snugly short in the toe... still. But I thought maybe they'll stretch just a tiny bit, or my foot will mold into the insole, and I can lace them to keep my heel aft in the shoe, and they'll be fine. And now, after a couple of weeks I've decided the 11's are too short. I've worn them regularly, and while they're comfortable (laced to hold my foot aft) at first after the lacing equalizes my foot settles in and my toes rub, just enough to bother me at the end of the day. I've never worn an 11 1/2 in my life, and I went back and tried the (different color) local size 11's: They're too big... so, inconsistent sizing, either from color-to-color or batch to batch. Lesson learned: Trust the fit, not the size, so be prepared to return ones that don't fit. As many times as needed to get the fit right - Amazon returns rock! Or, maybe, support the local big box...? ... show more

  • Very good quality pictures are my over 3 years old pair and over 2000 miles .
Size: 10.5 Color: Bark Brown
If your on the fence about these shoes don't be. This is my second pair. I walk 5 miles 5 to 6 days a week through spring, summer and fall. My last pair still looks good even though I got over 2000 miles on them. That's why I bought the same kind again. They felt great right out of the box walked 5 miles no pain just feel little tighter for the first few walks. They are water proof maybe can't wade creeks or mud puddles. But I walk part of my walk on State highway I get in edge of yards when cars pass. If its just rained or heavy dew my shoes get very wet , my feet stay dry. One thing I should note I do spary with tent water proof let dry before I wear the first time and do it again the first of the next year. I'm yet to ever get wet socks my first pair lasted 3 years before I replaced, and I still wear for yard work. I will definitely purchase again when this pair gets old not necessarily wore out. ... show more

  • Good fit, great walking shoe
Size: 10 Wide Color: Bark Brown
I have the boot version of this shoe, used it for two years and love it. I walk about 4 miles a day and wanted a sturdier shoe with more support then most sneakers. Have already put a lot of miles on this shoe in the past three weeks. They are just sturdy and fit the same as my boots but a little cooler with the low cut. Will get another pair when I wear these out but from the history of the soles on these it may be a while. They are heavier than sneakers but I will trade that for stability any day. ... show more

  • Not too hot for summer!
Size: 7 Color: Charcoal
I'm a size 8-8.5 in women's but I got these in black in size 7 (which is equivalent to 8.5 women's) b/c I usually like to go up half a size in Merrell's hiking shoes (as opposed to their trail running shoes). These fit exactly the same as an 8.5 in women's. I read more than a few reviews that claimed these shoes run small and instructed people to go up at least half a size, but I would only do that if you're on the edge of your size (i tend to be in certain styles of Merrell's shoes), have wide feet, or plan to use inserts. I was worried these would be too hot for summer but they're fine! We've had a bad heatwave the past 2 weeks and I don't find them particularly hot. I'm really glad I didn't get the "vent" version because I hike every day with my dog and am really hard on my hiking shoes (I usually need a new pair every 3-6 months, no matter the brand). I've owned a lot of different Merrell hiking shoes at this point (i usually just buy what's on sale) so I know I'd tear up the "vent" fabric pretty quick on the vent version of these shoes. These shoes are heavy hiking shoes. They're still "sneakers" instead of boots, but they're probably the heaviest pair of hiking shoes I've ever owned (i never wear actual hiking boots). I was surprised by how bouncy they still feel though! I guess that's one of the reasons they're so comfortable; i've had hard hiking shoes and these definitely aren't hard! You could run in them, but if you're a runner Merrell's actually makes a lot of different trail running shoes that would be better for that. I've been hiking in them for the past month and my only complaint so far is the suede fabric: it's such a magnet for dirt and dust! I got them in the black/gray but ever since the first time I wore them they've been covered with dusty dirt. No matter how much or how often I beat the dirt out of them they will basically always be tannish brown (the same color of the dirt where I hike). It's bad enough that dust is always puffing out of them when I undo the laces. If you care about having a visible layer of dirt/dust on your shoes you might want to get them close to the color of the ground where you hike (although I suppose this could be different for people who don't live in a dry climate like i do?). I plan to update when these shoes crap out on me. I'm curious to see how long the vibram soles last b/c I remember it only took me 3 months to wear completely through the last pair of shoes I had with "vibram" soles (probably 5+ yrs ago--back when Merrells was supposedly higher quality). Of course these days I like to use shoe goo before it gets to that point, but we'll see how long it takes before i have to start smearing shoe goo on the bottoms to keep them from wearing all the way through. UPDATE: I just raised my rating to 5 stars because I've been wearing these every other day since I bought them (so about the equivalent of 6 months) and they've held up WAY better than expected! Most other hiking shoes (even of this same brand) would be trashed by now, yet I haven't even had to use shoe goo on them yet because the soles aren't worn through even a little. The treads are definitely getting worn and there's a tear in the tongue of one shoe, but neither of these things have created any problems yet (they don't even smell bad yet!). I'm definitely going to stick with this brand and model from now on. I think it helps that I never wore them in the rain (I've noticed that every time I wear a pair of hiking shoes in the rain they seem to wear down really fast afterwards so now I only wear hiking shoes that I hate when it rains, which is easy considering it rarely rains here). ... show more

  • Decent
Size: 10.5 Color: Granite
Comfortable shoes for work and disc golf. However, I bought the waterproof ones and my big toe still gets wet in each shoe. Usually takes a lot of water but I wash and detail cars so I have wet socks by about 4 hours into the day. That is my main complaint. Only other complaint is they’re a smidge loose up in the toe box. ... show more
