15 to 20 years ago, I use to have trouble with pain on the bottom of my right foot when I would walk far. The athletic shoes I was wearing at the time all had a three section almost "articulated" construction design on the bottom of the shoe. I found my first pair of Merrill's on sale and bought them because they were "on sale". Shortly after I started wearing them I noticed my foot no longer hurt me. This caused me to examine the shoe to determine why it was different. That is when I noticed the Merrill didn't have the "three" section tread design. Now 20 year and probably 20 pairs of Merrill's later they are the only brand of shoes I'll buy. No more pain! Amazon has better prices than the Merrill outlet store! I go to the store to find what I like and try the shoe on and then come home and order the same shoe from Amazon and save $20! Plus free returns if needed! Do your feet a favor if you have never worn a pair of Merrill's give them a try...I think you will like them! (Another thing I love about them is the little "pull-on" finger ring on the back of all Merrill's is actually big enough to fit your finger in!) ... show more

These shoes are great. I have a pair of mids that are several years old and still in great shape. I wanted a lower cut shoe for more casual hikes and these fit the bill. They fit perfect out of the box and are comfortable. I opted for the Moab 2 because it has gore-tex and not the Merrell propriety water proof membrane. They are virtually the same and while colors were limited they were about $35.00 cheaper. ... show more

I gave this shoe a 4 since it will meet expectations for moderate hiking. I wouldn't want to use it on long hikes or those with extreme conditions. The tongue construction with its webbing tends to rub and may lead to problems on long excursions. I have had much better hiking shoes/boots but this pair will work for leisurely hikes. ... show more

This is my 3rd pair of this shoe. I have a black, blue and "earth" color of the identical shoe. The first one was the black one that I purchased about 1 year ago, then 6 months later the blue one and last this earth tone one. I generally wear them for daily wear, but also hiking my 3 miles plus per day. I also wear them playing golf since I usually play early when the dew is on the fairways and roughs and the Goretex keeps my feet dry and comfortable. Usual high-quality shoes but not true to the beluga color of the Moab 2 vent and darker with little contrast. My biggest complaint is they are very stiff and not very comfortable to wear compared to regular Moab 2 vent likely from the nylon arch support. For the record I have been wearing Merrils for at least the past 8 years and currently own 6 assorted pairs of Moabs and a pair of jungle mocs which all get 5 stars. ... show more
