I like the concept of this shoe/boot. But if you like the chameleon stretch like I do, these are probably as close to thi=ose (I have worn out 3 pair of stretches). I wanted a little higher ankle for support. When these arrived, the appear to be like the Chameleon Stretch shoe, and when you put them on at first they simulate it. However, I had to return and order up to 13. They do well, and certainly look good. But on long hikes, they aren't as comfortable as I had hoped. But,,,, I am flat footed, so not everyone may have the same feel. I do wish merrell made the chameleon stretch in a higher ankle cover.

First of all, when I first brought these shoes about 2 and a half months ago, I was highly pleased. As a mail carrier, I need shoes to be comfy, have great support, be warm, and waterproof. These shoes checked every box. However, about a month of wear, I noticed my left foot getting damp. And after two months, the waterproofing on my left shoe has failed toward the inner bottom. My foot gets wet just about any puddle I step in.. So, all in all, great shoes while they last, but they seem to wear out quick.. I wonder what the other waterproof shoes are like in build, such as the mobas? I'm willing to give them a shot. Maybe my expectations are a bit too high...

They were laced all the way up when I got them, so I assumed they were worn. I didn’t like that feeling, but! I kept them. Me and merrells go way back. I tortured my first pair, and they were comfortable out the box. Waterproof to the max. I kept them because they still are comfortable and are waterproof because I fish in the rain. Never had a problem with this name brand. Even if they are used, shame on them, but thumbs up to the shoe company because they are solid.

I ordered these boots attempting to replace my older Merrell Boulder hiking boots - which are wonderful. These Alverstone boots are fine for casual Friday at work, or light walks on paved/gravel trails at the dog park. The first walk through dewy grass and my feet were soaked. They are comfortable and the price was low so I kept them. Should be fine for knocking around. Maybe a few coats of waterproofing spray will help. True to size. I ordered 11.5 and 12, kept the 12s. Seems like a big change in quality from my last pair to these.
