These shoes did great hiking 6-8 miles each day. As with all hiking boots/shoes, tall socks (hiking socks) are recommended. My daughter did develop a blister because she was wearing socks that were too short. Overall though it was a great purchase.

We are a Merrell family. I have a pair that is a 13 years strong. My kid needed late winter early spring hikers and these seemed to bit the bill. She was thrilled when they arrived. Despite ordering her current size they were far too big on her. A six year old is not gonna sit around and wait until you exchange so we double socked and hoped she would grown in. We went out for our first easy hike and she was dragging behind - not typical of my busy bee experienced climber and hiker. We assumed it was her shoes not fitting well but then she took a good slip on a waterfall but we caught her mid-air. When we got back and I went to “shake her boots out” I noticed the rubber was fraying (first wear) and the insides were wet. I checked the socks and the bottoms were wet too. I realize these are not totally waterproof but how did the water get in? I was wearing a similar style and my feet were totally dry and comfortable so were my spouses. I am hoping this is all due to just sizing and that I can come back and revisit this review in early fall. Merrell quality is superb!

Wore well right out of the box. My daughter’s new favorite shoes. They are definitely waterproof, she was totally dry after stepping into a creek with 2 inches of water. Performed well on rugged trails.

This is the 3rd pair of these Merrells that we've purchased. As our daughter grows out of them we replace them with the next size up. Our little one is finicky about her feet and they have to be comfortable and dry at all times. These little boots are perfect. As long as you don't go into water above the top of the shoe their feet will stay dry! We love to hike and these boots have been amazing for her. Good traction, so no slipping, and she doesn't complain that they're uncomfortable. We've been on many hikes throughout GA and TN in these little boots.
