Bought this about 3 months ago. I had never played before, and knew virtually nothing about saxophone. 3 months later with 1-4 hours of playtime per day, I am improvising and flying through scales like a madman. Tone is good. Intonation is pretty good with exception of low Bb (25 cents sharp) and can’t speak for altissimo. Key action is smooth. For what I payed for this first saxophone. I couldn’t be happier with it performance. A lot of people complain about these budget Amazon saxs, but I personally feel like it is well worth what I payed. Will defiantly want to upgrade when I start to play out or record, but for practice it is just right. ... show more

    • Amazing value, but some odd quirks
So far learning the sax has been extremely fun, and this horn has been easy to learn on. One of the odd things that I've noticed, and I'm not sure if it's just me, the front E and F fingerings will not play. I know they are not the easiest, but it's proven impossible to play them. Other than that, everything in the box came in tact, nothing was broken. The reed pre-attached looked a little weird, so I did switch that out. MAKE SURE TO GREASE THE CORK BEFORE ASSEMBLING. Extremely important step. The box was not moldy or otherwise damaged like other reviews show, mine came in perfect condition. If you need a sax to learn on, highly reccomend this one before spending hundreds more on a name brand instrument. UPDATE: After a couple weeks of regularly playing, a piece of cork fell off of one of the keys. This loosened a pad and created a leak. Thankfully, it was fixed by simply scotch taping it back on, but this goes to show the build quality of this horn. Playing has gotten a lot easier with practice, and I reccomend using 2 strength reeds at first, instead of the included 2.5 strength.
