I purchased this sax to take it friendly gatherings, but where I still wouldn't want to leave my $5000 Yamaha sax anywhere out of my sight. Once you replace the mouthpiece (I'd recommend the Vandoren AL3) it plays great. The mouthpiece that comes with is so bad that it will discourage any beginning player. You must replace it! The other problem is that it's difficult to pull a cleaning/drying rag through it. This is because there are a lot of weird metal protrusions into the central core of the sax. These have no effect on playing it and don't affect the sound, as far as anyone but great purists would notice, but it thwarts any rag from being pulled through it. It comes with this weird "bottle scrubber" sort of thing, but it doesn't do much to dry it out. So, just forget that scrubber thing. All in all, it's a great value. Nothing has broken, bent or jammed. Just be ready to clean the G# and C# pads with a wet, then a dry cloth every so often. I've been on the lookout for any of the long rods to become loose, but this hasn't happened. I was kind of expecting such, for the cheap price, but, so far, so good. But I'd keep a small (3/32) jeweler's screwdriver around, just in case.

I'm no professional sax guy by any means, played for a number of years throughout middle/high school and got back into it just this year after probably a decade of not playing. I grew up playing some kind of Blessing instrument, which I replaced a while ago with a Selmer Liberty LAS-100 because it was falling apart. Purchased this for my dad who has never played any wind instruments before, because he wanted to play around with one and I was curious if this brand was any good. First thing, the reeds are trash. I took one look and tossed them immediately. You'll need to replace them with something reputable, get some Rico reeds or something. Second thing, the mouthpiece is also absolute garbage. I was able to produce some kind of horrible honking sound eventually, but it took a lot of adjustment. My completely inexperienced dad wasn't even able to get it to produce sound most of the time. If you're gonna buy this for someone just starting out, grab them a decent Yamaha starter mouthpiece or something. Once we got him one of those, he was instantly having a much easier time. Also the neckstrap is bad. It probably works, but it's really uncomfortable. Probably in your best interest to get one of those nice padded ones. The case is a molded piece of styrofoam covered with cloth, so I wouldn't expect it to protect your instrument from any real wear. It's fine for just stowing away the thing around the house or whatever, but I'd want something better if I was doing any sort of travel. It doesn't come with the full gamut of cleaning supplies, so you'll have to pick up one of those cleaning kit deals. Honestly, I was sort of expecting all of that though. Once you pair it up with a decent mouthpiece/reeds, this is a fantastic sax for the price. It looks beautiful. Feels very solid, doesn't seem thin or lightweight or anything like that. The key adjustment was fine, surprisingly lower action compared to my LAS-100. The neck fit in really tight, such that the tightening screw didn't actually seem to do anything, which was weird. Also the neck cork was way too thick and needed to be sanded down for the mouthpiece to fit correctly. But again, this is a brand new instrument shipped for $240! Used instruments will have their own problems and not look half as nice as this while costing twice as much, easily. The Blessing instrument I learned to play on was four times as much back in the day, and even in its prime it wasn't as good as this one. If you know what to expect, and you can put down a little extra to pair it up with a nice mouthpiece/reeds, this is a great disposable sax.

Hi all, Beginner saxophone player here. Got this horn and spent a week trying to get the first 2 octaves playing consistently and had a lot of struggles doing so. Mostly thinking that I was having issues with my embouchure, breathing, etc. I kept at it, however I noticed that I had to shift the mouthpiece in and out of my mouth between the low C and middle E-F or otherwise I would get squeaks/etc. I have also noticed that the pressure that I needed to produce specifically the higher notes was radically different from the mid-range. A few build quality issues were also present, however this didn't really phase me for the price - some squeaks from a few keys, a couple of valves not sealing properly and some key wobble on a few keys. I ended up going down to a local music store with a primary focus on woodwind instruments and had them go through and point out the various issues with the saxophone. They did agree that it was *probably* okay for the price, however they encouraged me to try one of the Yamaha YAS 26 beginner saxophones that they have available, after I told them about my struggles with embouchure and squeaks/etc in the first two octaves. Skeptical at first, I was quite taken aback by the results. Things I noticed in YAS 26 when compared to Mendini by Cecilio Alto saxophone: * Much fuller, richer sound * Lightness of keys, which were much less stiff (not good or bad for me - just an observation) * Overall build quality and the feel of a much nicer instrument * Complete lack of squeaks/rattles * Much more consistent air pressure requirements to get a consistent sound AND I no longer needed to move the mouthpiece in and out of my mouth to get both low and high notes sounding well - they seemed to have come out more or less effortlessly * I was able to play much more quietly and take it up louder, while on Cecilio saxophone, it seemed to be all or nothing * Just to point out that I've played both saxophones using my own mouthpiece and reed, which was Yamaha 4C mouthpiece and Rico 2.0 reed, so this is quite a fair comparison * I do understand that the Yamaha is around 3-4 times more expensive, however the old saying of "you get what you pay for" seems to hold up here, at least for this particular saxophone unit, maybe other's were up to better standards Switching back to my saxophone was rough. Air pressure was very inconsistent between different notes. Squeaks/etc were much more prevalent. Overall this might be an okay instrument to someone who is really experienced, but as a beginner, I could definitely see how the Yamaha was a MUCH easier instrument to pick up and play on, while this was ... a struggle in many ways. At this point, I might contact Amazon support and see if I can return this product as a beginner, I find that I spend more time fighting against the instrument, than using it to achieve what I would like. -- Update: updating this right before sending the saxophone back. I've now played my new Yamaha sax for 2 weeks and have had a great time doing so. Lots of learnings, but overall I am really pleased with my progress. Trying Cecilio one last time before sending it back confirmed my above thoughts. It is VERY hard to play. I could barely get a few decent sounds out of it. This re-confirmed my decision and has left me even more pleased with the Yamaha.

Purchased for my son, who used to rent one while in school. Actually he played a Tenor Sax, but he is adjusting to the subtle differences between the two . I am thankful they are so very similar because I didn't know I bought the wrong one. It is beautiful, just as pictured. I got the blue one and it is a gorgeous electric blue. Since it is new, the keys are stiff, but should loosen as he plays. And I love that it comes with EVERYTHING he could possibly need for it right now.
