This is a great easel that can be used for a number of years. The paper is easy to change and the kids love the magnetic side for little animals and magnetic letters. Great value, great quality too!

I did a lot of research on easels as this was going to be the big Christmas gift for my 4 year old. I ultimately decided to go with this one because I know Melissa and Doug products to be well made. I chose this one over the original M & D easel because I liked that this was magnetic as well. Well, it exceeded my expectations! It takes a little time, but it’s fairly easy to put together. It’s very sturdy. I’m not sure why previous reviewers said it was cheap or flimsy. I don’t see that at all. Also the chalk board works perfectly from the first use. It didn’t need to be “seasoned” like other easel chalk boards. I can see where folding it may be a bit of a nuisance, but if you don’t need to fold it regularly it shouldn’t be a problem. Update: Had this for 3 years now and it’s still great! Took a while to put together. But it’s a nice easel and easy to use once it’s all set up. It has a magnetic chalk board on one side and a dry erase board on the other side. Easy to open and close. Larger than I was imagining but it is good that it has 3 adjustable heights. I think our kitchen is just small and that’s where it is right now. The lowest height is perfect for my 2.5 year old. I bought more magnetic letters and numbers for it since all it comes with for letters is the alphabet which you can’t make many words with. I think she will get many years of use out of this easel. ... show more

Perfect height for my 3 year old and it adjusts so it can get taller as she grows to ensure it will last her many years. Good quality. I wish the tray was a little bigger on the dry erase/paint side so it can hold more dry erase markers. The magnets are not super strong so easy for little fingers to get the magnets on and off but strong enough that they stay on the board. The assembly was not too difficult. Bought as a gift for granddaughter and then discovered it came with no supplies. But that was my fault for not reading description thoroughly. My daughter said it was difficult to assemble and would be inconvenient to use an allen wrench each time you wanted to fold it; however, she said it was sturdy once assembled. Had I read description carefully, I would not have ordered this one but one that came with a few supplies. ... show more

Difficult to adjust the height (you need a wrench), not tall enough (more for 5+ year olds), and flimsy (dangerous around little ones). I returned it. Loads of other options.

I wish a tray for paints and things came with it to attach under the easel, but this is a great little item and my grandchild loves it. When he leaves my house he asks if he can take it with him. I keep it at my house for something special to do when he comes for a visit. Both sides are great. The roller with the paper works well as long as I put a little piece of masking tape to keep it secure while he paints. I just keep reusing the tape because he paints so fast. The magnetic side is also fun and has a tray to keep the magnets. It is not readily adjustable but I think it is fine for a 3-5 year old. ... show more

    • Really hard to assemble
My husband and I both struggled very hard to put this together. It's not complicated, but it felt like the screws were too short. We had to squeeze parts together as hard as we could to get the screws to catch the nuts on the other side. Maybe the wood swelled? Other than that it's a perfectly fine easel for children. Perfect height for my 7 year old whose about to turn 8. The chalkboard side isn't as magnetic as I'd like. Plastic magnet letters just fall right off if easel gets jostled. ... show more
