  • GREAT CHAIR AND IT FITS
Before my Dad came to live with me I did not realize how the fit of the chair can make such a difference in the comfort for the occupant of the chair. Well, this wheelchair fits my father's size (6' and 190 lb.). It is wide enough without being too wide and deep enough for his long legs. It handles well and locks down tight when you need it locked. He will now be able to go for a walk/wheeling through the neighborhood and to move about inside the house as well. This chair was affordable. It has the arms that will allow him to sit at the table and eat, They (the arms) are removable so that I will be able to get him very close to the car allowing the transfer board to work well. The foot rest will fold up and with just a press of the release the foot rest and supports will swing to the side out of the way. This is very important for him, as he has limited use of his legs. If the rests did not swing out of the way he would have to be lifted out of the chair. We have not had it long enough to know how long it will last. He has an electric chair for long trips and using public transportation. You might wonder why you would need a manual chair when we have an electric chair. One word - weight! I cannot pick the electric chair up to get it in the house. I have a stair lift that will transfer my Dad up the stairs, but it is not big enough for the chair. Sometimes the electric chair just decides that it is not going to work so now we have a manual chair that will always work. He is so happy with the new chair for it gives him freedom to move. The supplier was great. ... show more

  • Sturdy materials, short leg rests, and pull-to-lock brakes
I purchased this chair as I need to be non-weight bearing on one leg for 6 weeks and needed a way to get outside and do long distances safely. The chair is pretty much perfect for me. I am 5'6" and 265 lb and the 20" width and 18" seat depth is a perfect fit, with still a bit of room for comfort which avoids pressure on the plastic side panels built into the armrests. One thing you should be aware of is that the brakes are a pull-to-lock mechanism, NOT a push-to-lock mechanism. For most people it wouldn't matter, but for anyone with significant arm weakness (stroke, MS, frail/elderly) the pull-to-lock can be much more difficult, so something to keep in mind. The chair came almost fully assembled. All I had to do was attach the backrest of the chair to the seat of the chair, which attaches with a couple button clicks sliding the tubes into one another, just like you would do if you were adjusting crutches. No tools required. Also, you have to attach the leg rests yourself, obviously, but they are also pre-assembled. Note: I am only 5'6", and I adjusted the leg rests to their longest setting, and they are a perfect fit for me. However, for anyone taller than 5'6" or 5'7", the leg rests I'm sure would be quite short, which may be uncomfortable if you need to use them regularly, so keep that in mind. As a medical professional, and even someone who performs wheelchair evaluations for disabled patients, I was impressed with the wheelchair's quality for the price. ... show more

  • No Major Complaints
The Medline Lightweight is a pretty good chair, but not quite all I had expected. Maybe my expectations for a sub-$200 chair are a bit high, but I guess I've been spoiled by some chairs that I know were in a similar price range. The chair is sturdy enough, BUT the arms pop out of the sockets a little too easily. The ride is mostly smooth but the brakes don't securely snap into the unlocked position and thus they tend to easily drift back against the tires when unlocked and produce that rubbing sound when you're rolling. Thirdly, the desk arms seem a little shorter - and are a bit more uncomfortable - than previous chairs with similaR ARMS. And lastly, this is the first chair that I have received where the seat cushion is supposed to fit the size of the chair set, but is instead a full two inches in depth and width. Thus floats all around the chair and actually comes completely out the back of the chair while I'm sitting on it! At least twice a day I'm picking my set cushion up off the floor as it has wriggled out from under mu butt. Not quite the experience I had hoped for. ... show more

  • Pleased with Chair and Would Buy Again.
Excellent chair, especially for the price. Well constructed, easy to push, rolls smoothly. Average weight. I can lift it into the back cargo area of my car, but it is not real light if you have problems with lifting because it is a standard sized wheelchair. I am 5' 8" tall so it is nice that the handles raise high enough so that I can be comfortable pushing my Mom. The footrests are adjustable. They slide up and down and lock in place with a retractable pin. It was a little tricky at first, but once I figured out how to adjust them, it works just fine. The arm rests are cut back so the chair fits under a table which is a huge plus. The only thing I would change are the small medal extensions to help you lift the wheelchair over something with your foot. I would prefer a pedal of some sort, but still they work. ... show more

  • Great chair
This was a gift for my brother-in-law. He needed a replacement due to a house fire. He says it is very maneuverable and features are awesome. No more transfer to restaurants seating because the arms move out of the way entirely and the foot rests do the same without having to remove them. He also says it is comfortable. There is almost no assembly. Just the backrest/pushing handles, and the footrests need to be mounted. No tools required. ... show more

  • High quality and good value.
I have only used it for a week. This is not what I would call lightweight. It is made of steel. It works well and the quality seems high. The arm rests swing back, but as far as I can determine, one cannot remove them to make the chair lighter. The hand wheel is textured unlike some other brands that are smooth and more difficult to push. Overall this seems like a very good value. The swing-away foot rests are easy to adjust and work well. This seems like a much better chair than the one I tried at a local medical supply that was more than twice the price. ... show more
