Very nice looking product, despite being made with particle board as opposed to plywood or solid wood. Kit was complete, arrived undamaged, thanks to the excellent packing technique. They really need to make the manuals accessible from the store website so that people can decide if they are up to this task. This is not a kit for a beginner and some special tools really help. While I assembled it myself, I have a lot of experience with this kind of thing and also with maneuvering very heavy objects safely. Recommended tools are a tack hammer (they recommend a rubber mallet), minimum 20 power driver with a very complete bit set (I got my riobi 145 piece set from Home Depot for $15). If you do this yourself you will also probably have to treat a sore back when you are done. The assembly instructions are picture only, no english verbage included. That said, they are clear enough if you take your time to study them before and during every step. One tricky thing is the removal of the front panel of the fireplace before you install it in the cabinet. There are two screws on each side (not top and bottom) and two more in the exhaust vents in the front at the top (these are the ones that I had trouble finding). Fortunately, they are a different color (aluminum) as opposed to the black ones which you shouldn't remove. The lighting is an easy install, just plug everything in. There is a cable with a doodad on front which you want to attach to the cabinet at the front (I used heavy duty double stick mounting tape to attach it to the top of the center shelf right above the fireplace. This is so it can see the optical signal from the remote control. I recommend attaching the light modules to the tops of the shelves so that you can use the entire shelf interior for storage. Positives: Looks good, works well. Negatives: Non-trivial assembly, two people recommended, could use better, english instructions. Caveats: Not for a carpeted surface. Two reasons: 1) The base is not as sturdy as I would like, particularly if you decided to install gliders for use on a carpeted floor. There is no back piece to the base. 2) The provided feet are nail in, which means that they will destroy the base and probably damage the floor carpet if you try to move the cabinet on carpet - just too much friction. This is pointed out in the instruction. Other notes: This cabinet is apparently also sold without the fireplace, in which case you get a glass shelf to install in the space. Because it is easier to manage inventory for just one sku as opposed to two, they include it in both versions. Hence you will have a glass shelf and some shelf holders when you are finished assembling the cabinet. ... show more

Great looking. Be careful when moving. Do not pickup from the top shelf. It was pretty easy to install. There were alot of steps but nothing that you can't handle. Fireplace works well

I gave this four stars because of how it looks. I really like the effect it has on my room and how it brings everything together. I took off a star because the price doesn't reflect the materials that the item is made out of. It's mostly really cheap MDF. However the fireplace insert is fantastic So That's what keeps it from being a 3 star item. For those of you who were wondering and searching the questions, like I was, trying to figure out what size space the fireplace will heat: my room is approximately 400 square feet and this fireplace heats it pretty quickly and stays on target with the temperature. It has 3 different color settings including orange, purple, and blue. In addition to colors, The fireplace let's you choose the brightness of the colors. So if you're watching television with the flames going then it doesn't have to be so overpowering it takes away from the movie you're watching. On the other hand, it's a stellar night light at the highest settings. You could have a fire lit dinner by this faux fire. The heater fan ranges from off, low, and high. You can set the fireplace to turn itself off with a timer included. A feature I didn't know came with the fireplace was LED light features. It allows you to make a little light show in the background With 4 LEDs you are fix inside the stand. I am accustomed to assembling furniture and small carpentry. After putting this together the pedestal planck's that it came with broke apart As sometimes happens with poor grade MDF. Even with the fireplace being so fantastic, and the impressive looks of it, it is overpriced because the base of it is made of a material that crumbles apart. This is not a pc of furniture that you can slide a little to the left or slider little to the right to get just right. You will have to completely lift this item to prevent the foundation from falling apart. With that being sad I sent an email to the company asking for the replacement parts And they sent them right away. The quick response makes me think they have good customer service with the caveat that only one of the pieces they sent was the correct piece. If you were a handy person And this is the look you want, which is the circumstance I'm in, then a few braces, or replacement of the center pedestal pieces with structural lumber would make this strong and sturdy. ... show more

    • It is a beast to assemble, and it is expensive, but the end result is amazing!

Please please find a friend or hire someone to help assemble this thing. I did it with a friend who luckly was handier than me, but still took us three hours. Also some parts of the instructions are unclear or not drawn - for example we didnt realize how to place part 13 (back panel), so had to disassemble and do it again once we understood where it went. As others mentioned the internal material is kinda cheap, but I guess that is the only way to make this thing self-assembly and be able to ship by mail. The external parts that you can actually see once assemble look great but are very heavy. In the end of the day I am still debating if it looks tacky or not, but still I love it lol. Even without the lights, the shape is great, but I still love the little fake fireplace :-D. Regarding heating it is ok, yes it makes a bit of noise, but I guess it would be equivalent to a lower end heater. Overall recommend! ... show more
