The pages have a perforated line for easy/clean tear. The squares are not a dark color; however, you can still see them in poor light. Cover page is of a thin material, not as strong as the back carton. Would recommend to reinforce the first and last spiral holes to prevent tear with constant use.

Five-star products are my go to for back to school shopping, it's a durable notebook and it does not bleed at all! It is not cheaply made like most notebooks I have used, its high quality and it lasts. I would definitely recommend this to any student especially those who use gel pens!
