You really can’t go wrong with a Mead black marble composition notebook. This one is the perfect size (7-1/2” x 9-3/4”) and the wide-ruled paper is great for everyday notes, journaling, or schoolwork—especially if you like having a little more writing space. The cover is sturdy and holds up well in a backpack, and the binding stays together better than cheaper notebooks. The pages tear out cleanly only if you need them to (otherwise they stay put), and the paper is smooth enough that most pens and pencils write nicely without a lot of bleed-through. The Mead composition notebook has been around forever, and for good reason. I’ve tried fancier journals and digital apps, but I always end up back here. It’s simple, sturdy, and does exactly what it should. The wide-ruled paper is smooth and easy to write on. Pens don’t bleed through, even gel ones. The cover has that nostalgic black marble look that instantly takes you back to grade school, but it’s durable enough for real work too. I’ve tossed one in a backpack, dropped it in the car, and it still looks fine after months. The binding is tight and flat enough to write comfortably on both sides of the page. It doesn’t tear or fold weirdly, which is more than I can say for some knockoff brands.
