  • Made in the Shade
Color: Brown
I'd give this 5 stars, but the instructions were facsimiles of ancient Chinese pictographs and I didn't like the included anchors. Time will tell how durable the product is, but it looks nice now. I assemble 5 panels in series to give my carport a bit more shade underneath. This product was ideal for my purpose as the panels are designed to fit into each other. Here is my installation advice: Get a helper if you can (I didn't.) Work off of a safe platform (I used the bed of my truck.) Assemble your first panel completely on a soft surface. Ensure all the components are tight and carefully measure the distance between the top holes of the brackets. Drill your top mounting holes (You need at least 3 inches of clearance from any obstructions above the bracket holes.) Start your first bracket bolt and swing the other bracket into place. Drill your bottom bracket holes and bolt it up. Any additional panels you add will be a challenge as they have to be added one part at a time. Start by fixing the back fixing bar into a new bracket. Then slide the other end into the bracket of the completed section. After ensuring that the fixing bar is bottomed on both brackets, install the top bracket bolt, but leave it a little loose. Next slide the clear plastic connecting rod onto one of the opaque panel boards. (A little soapy water will make this part easier.) Spread the new bracket slightly and slip the panel board into the slots. Then lubricate the outer panel board with soapy water and slide it onto the first one. Then attach the frontal fixing bar and work both panels into the fixed bracket first and the new, loose bracket second. Push the new bracket into the panel as far as it will go. At this point, I made a slight deviation from the original design. The screws to hold the frontal fixing bar to the brackets are too short and have a tendency to strip out the plastic. I bought longer screws and drilled holes in the fixing bar to ensure they would bite and hold. Make absolutely sure the panels are bottomed in their slots before installing the screws. If this is an end panel you can install the stainless steel screws (7) to pull it tight. Drill and install the bottom bracket bolt and you are either done or ready to move on to the next panel. ... show more

  • Great product - Easy to build/install.
Color: Silver bracket/White board
We bought this to put up over our front door that exits our great room. It was extremely easy to put together and with two people, fairly easy to install. I've never used bolts like this before. The top three went in w/o a problem but the three bottom ones never got tighter. I wish I had used other bolts instead. I chose to supplement the three bottom ones with long wood screws going into the exterior wood under the siding. Once awning was in place I ran a bead of silicone sealer along the top back edge where the awning rests against the house. Even though the clear acrylic sheets slide into the grooves of the supports, self-tapping screws are provided to ensure they don't pop out. I feel confident that this awning will work well to keep rain off the area. We'll see how well it works! Glad we purchased this unit, for the price it's hard to beat. PS - August 6: Today, the day after we installed the awning, we had a solid rain storm. Even though the deck got somewhat wet under the awning, the door itself and wall near door, remained dry. That's what we were hoping for :D ... show more

  • Thought this would be a nice awning to install rather than a traditional cloth awning
Color: Silver bracket/White board
Thought this would be a nice awning to install rather than a traditional cloth awning. Box stated white trim, there is nothing white on this awning, all grey and metal trim. The plastic sheets are 1/4" thick hollow tube, so we'll see how these stand up to the sun and rain. I was able to put this up by myself, but I can see where it's much easier with 2 people. It is lacking hardware as stated as it only came with concrete anchor bolts. I was attaching to a wood building, so had to purchase additional hardware. Also of note, the supports had "flashing" left on them as part of the forming process. No one cleaned this before shipping. I also had one of these support that had a plastic nib in the channel that held the awning plastic. I had to drill this away and clear the channel before I could install it. Will try and report back in a few months on how these hold up the elements. ... show more

  • Instructions are horrible (see pic attached)
Color: Brown
Just arrived, and out of the box, I'm missing one screw (easy enough to replace at Lowes, but disappointing nonetheless). Next, started trying to assemble. Instructions are horrible (see pic attached). They make a note to "make sure the holes you drill can exactly match to the holes of the bracket" - but of course, they don't tell you what size drill bit to use for the holes, or give you any measurements for anything. I would live to see their technical writer install this thing with these instructions. In just trying a dry run (no screws) at assembly, looks like the rear fixing bar doesn't exactly fit correctly into the brackets. Will see how long I'm willing to mess with it before it goes back in the box and gets returned to Amazon. ... show more

  • So far so good!
Color: Brown
Loving it so far! It was a bit hard to get on due to the fact that we are in a mobile home. But it's up and now we're waiting for rain and snow. I will update this review as things progress so you all will know what I think. The directions for putting the awning together sucked. My husband was able to get it but it took a lot of fiddling and fidgeting to get it good. So far it's holding up to some really pretty gusty winds. We live in Indiana and have a whole bunch of different weather types. We'll go from flooding and thunderstorms to ice and hail and snow! We're looking like we're going to have a bad winter so it will be interesting how the awning holds up to the snow. I mostly wanted this awning because I have a wheelchair ramp and it's flush with my door which means the rain comes right into my house on my hardwood floor. No matter how many sweeps we tried on the door. So we decided to try an awning because it would keep the rain from dripping and puddling on the ramp in front of the door and hopefully keep things drier inside! But I will update after rain and after snow and after about 6 months. So stay tuned ... show more
