As other reviewers stated, these 16" x 20" x 4" filters are actually 15.88" x 19.88" x 4.31". Double check your furnace openings and existing filters! I retrofitted my furnace since its slot takes a 16x20x1. I wanted to run MERV 13 and use thicker filters due to my asthma and lung issues. Eventually I'll get a better method vs just sealing filters with packing tape. This way my furnace can only intake filtered air, the factory slot allows air to go right past the filter slot regardless what type of filter you use. If you are going to "spend the money" and run filters of this grade, I strongly urge you to make sure that they are actually sealed in place for airflow otherwise air will flow right past these filters and miss the point of them entirely. Air takes the path of least resistance (thank physics), and it's easier to go around a filter instead of through it, especially once it starts to catch anything. Just keep tabs on inspecting and changing them to prevent issues with your system. My Nest thermostat will sense the system starting to act differently and will remind me to check the filter before it causes serious problems. If you have a smart thermostat see if it has a filter reminder, and go in the settings and tell it when you have changed it so it knows the difference on how your HVAC behaves! These are excellent filters, they don't obstruct airflow at all, and will last for months in my new modular home! Even in a very "lived in" home, these would last for a hot minute. I do like that they are individually wrapped to keep them clean until they are installed, a lot of manufacturers just seal the pack of them and not individually to keep them clean! Very pleased, zero complaints! Will update my review if anything changes.

The sizing on these filters is also a bit odd. They're marked as "16x20x4". A lot of filters cheat by being a little smaller than their advertised size. These filters are both larger and smaller than their advertised dimensions - so measure your furnace to make sure they have a snug fit. They seem to be close, but not quite MERV 13. More like MERV 12½. I have a couple PM dust sensors that I use to measure air quality in my house. With a MERV13 filter, those dust sensors read 0 µg/m³ for PM2.5 and PM10 whenever the fan is on. With the fans off, the sensors read 8-9 µg/m³ (or AQI of 45, a little high but not unusual, it was a smokey day). When I installed these filters, the sensors never quite get to zero, but instead bounce around 2-3 µg/m³ (on the AQI scale, this is about 20). To be MERV 13, the filters are supposed to remove at least 85% of PM2.5. These didn't quite make it there. For normal use of just keeping the dust down in the house and keeping the air handler and ducts clean, I think these are good. But I wouldn't use these to protect the house from wildfire smoke, I don't think they're quite up to it.

Item description: 2 pk, MERV13 nominal 16x20x4 air filter Brand: Maycold Item: B0D4PM3NX7 Date received: 2024-08-24 Headline - Well made, but pay attention to the exact size! Product Claims 2 ct, 16x20x4 inch nominal size, MERV13 filtration, air filter I received exactly what was claimed in the product description. The units were well boxed in a cardboard box, within another box. The cardboard filter frame was typical for these types of filters, and the filter media was typical. The outboard side (air flows out of) of the filter is reinforced with a metal mesh (as is typical). What you will have to pay close attention to (and the product description says this!) is the exact filter dimensions. While this is a nominal 16x20x4 filter, the exact dimensions matter, and many filter housings of that nominal size are smaller than this one. This filter is 15.88 inches by 19.88 inches x 4.31 inches. In contrast, a more typical 16x20x4 filter might be something like 15.5 inches x 19.5 inches x 3.75 inches, and if your housing is tightly made to that size, this filter won't work.

My wife and I got a new HVAC system this February and moved from old 1" filters to these beasts. I'll admit, for the cost we paid for the system I would have hoped for a higher MERV rating but when I went to replace my existing (MERV 8) filter I found this one to be quite a bit bigger. The filter *does* fit in my filter box -barely- but I'm worried that the hanging filter fragrance pieces we've grown very used to may fall off due to how much I had to squeeze this into the filter box. As an aside, make sure your HVAC is rated for MERV 13. Ours was and it's fine but I did learn through some research that this rating can cause reduced efficacy of your system if it's not capable of pushing air through such a fine filter. MERV 13 is said to capture virus particles which was appealing to us given how... carefree and careless people were during the pandemic and continue to be post-pandemic.

I was very happy thinking I got a great deal on new filters, but I was wrong. Here is a warning to anyone else who needs 16x20x4 filters -- there are many different sizes of 16x20x4 filters! You'd think an inch is an inch, but nope. Apparently, my 16x20x4 filters are actually 15.5 x 19.5 x 3.5! These 16x20x4 filters are 15.88 x 19.88 x 4.31. I was going to give these a 1-Star review, but I really can't punish Maycold. They're simply trying to make money selling filters. And, to their credit, they've clearly listed the filters true size. Its on the manufacturers for screwing up what 16x20x4 means, and its on me for not knowing which 16x20x4 I need. (rant over)
