  • An actual user review
Color: Sport Orange (SmartConnect)
2/26/21 The reviews here are highly suspicious so I'm going to provide an authentic review from a verified purchaser. Check my review history, I've personally bought and reviewed lots of exercise equipment so I can compare... something I'd expect from the reviews here but don't see as well as overly complimentary statements that seem unnatural. I've been reading and writing reviews for a long time. Rowers, inversion tables, whole body vibration platforms. Body Blade, Teeter FreeStep ...to name a few. I've got a well-stocked home gym including these plus dumbbells, kettlebells, ski trainer...you get it by now. I've bought some junk as well as life changing equipment over the years. The universe of fitness equipment is ridiculously large. The MaxPro for me is intended as a non-primary workout tool. For less money I'd buy a Total Gym if I had no other fitness equipment before I'd buy the Max Pro. I've had one for almost 40 years back when they were made by West Bend and another that is at least 20 years old. You'll get concentric and eccentric muscle dynamics with the Total Gym whereas you'll only get concentric action with the Max Pro. If you don't have the space then the Max Pro appears to be a nice compromise. Out of the box the fit and finish appear well done. I've got the orange on black version. I paid $749 after a $100 coupon available on Amazon that came and went. Its a pricey item no doubt. The body of the unit is cast aluminum. The dials on each end don't click into place so you've got to eyeball the marks to be sure your settings are identical on each end. The dials feel imprecise, I expected a better feel to the calibration then is provided. The cable is a very thin corded nylon type material. They claim is they provide up to a 750 lb pull weight. The handles are a hard polymer of some type. The webbing that secures the handle to the D clamp is a bit narrow for my hand...I find it chafing my knuckles as the handle rotates when gripping it. The workout bar is made of metal...probably aluminum and padded over the entire length. The cable resistance is semi-smooth. There is a break in period we're told so I'll report back on that after some time...its important. If the action isn't smooth through the entire range of motion its going to be a problem for me. My initial impression was quite good. The machine is boxed well. All parts are padded and it arrived in good condition. The box could be used to transport the machine quite nicely. I'm having trouble getting my phone to recognize the app. Nowhere in the included user manual is a mention of where and how to obtain the application. I guessed and went to Google Play Store and found one...the one I assume I'm supposed to download. So far It's not working but I've not spent a lot of time on it. I'm not a big fan of keeping my expensive smartphone nearby as I workout. Too much chance of an accident. Give me a wall chart and I'm more than content. In the office its been a useful. It takes some getting used to. Your form and technique will need to be refined as you get used to the new configuration. I'm planning to use it at the office exclusively by standing on it. I'll take it home from the office to try the door mount in the next review. I'll check back in a few weeks to update. 3/1/21 I can already see that I'm going to need the wall track mounting system to make the best use of this machine. Working only off the floor limits what you can do with it significantly. This will add another $300 to the cost so I'm closing in on $1200 invested with tax. Not impressed as much as I'd like to be with floor only use. So, the addition of the track is almost mandatory. Not a pleasant conclusion to come to. I'll post once more after I put more time in on the machine and add the wall mounting system. 4/1/21 I've installed the wall track system and have been using it for a couple of weeks. As I suspected it is a game changer for maximizing the use of the machine. The wall track is well made. Parts fit together well. The track is powder coated and heavy gauge formed aluminum sheet metal. Installation is straightforward as long as you can find and mount the track to studs within the wall . The press and click mechanism for raising and lowering the MaxPro within the rail systems moves smoothly and clicks confidently into place. I'd say its a must-have so prepare yourself for the added expense. I was able to find a discount on the track but all told I've got over $1000 invested in the total system with tax. Early clunking and unevenness issues with the cable system when extending and retracting seem to be working themselves out. I contacted support and was told to extend the cables out fully and let them retract in addition to the break-in period that is mentioned when purchasing. As a courtesy they extended my 30 day return period which I felt was a nice gesture and show of confidence on their part. So...is it worth over a thousand bucks?? That's a relative question in my opinion. For my needs it turns out to be a yes vote. I can afford it, and it's not my primary exercise equipment. I have mine installed at my company office. I have a gym at my house and belong to a local gym as well. So for me this is a occasional use fitness tool that is intended to complement my other equipment and provide me additional time working on my fitness. Ten minutes here and there add up on top of my routine outside the office environment. That is all I intend to use if for with the exception of traveling. It packs and carries easy so that is a plus as well. If I had no other exercise equipment, had the room to use it and/or a more limited budget... I think you would do better to buy a Total Gym. You can spend 50% less for the Apex model for example and get both concentric and eccentric muscle work dynamics. You can spend even less than that on more basic models and there is a pretty good used market as well. Its a simple design but very effective. As I've said I've got one of the originals...its 40 years old and going strong. Fitness is an investment for me...not a cost. I have a busy day so getting a 5-15 minute workout in with the MaxPro while at my office is a hack I feel good about since my job involves sitting at a desk (standing option model of course) for hours every day. Stacking a few minutes here and there adds up to a good workout regimen for me and has helped me get to 66 years old in physically good shape. Within the confines of the usage I've described I would buy the MaxPro again to meet the needs I have. Its highest and best use for me is in a supporting role not a primary one. For primary needs I think there are superior choices for more optimal equipment available given the costs and limitations of the Max Pro. I've highlighted the Total Gym (no I don't work for them nor have I received anything from them) as a very good alternative. For space and low budget concerns you should learn how to use kettlebells and pick up a set. Get a portable bench and you can get lots done with just those. If I were stranded on an island and could have only one piece of workout gear....it would be a kettlebell. Okay two kettlebells, one heavy one lighter. Good luck, stay fit. ... show more

  • I real review
Color: Sport Orange (SmartConnect)
When I saw this I was super excited and had to have it. Now if I could I would return it and spend all that money elsewhere. Now you can do a lot with this and it is very portable. It also feels very well made. It is great for an alternative cable type machine while being super compact. If you get the wall track the uses increase significantly. That being said this product has way to many issues to justify its huge cost. The cost is pretty crazy for what you are getting considering there are other significantly cheaper alternatives. What is even more crazy is the bench and wall track cost extra and alot extra. I personally feel like you have to have the wall track to get the benefit of the maxpro. It puts the cost well over 1k. The cables are super choppy. I keep reading that the more you use it the better it gets and I have found that to not be true. In fact the more weight you go up (for me it's passed 10) it becomes almost unusable. Which is rather disappointing. I also wish it was a little wider. I have trouble doing squats or chest Flys because the width just doesn't cut it. The dials you use to adjust the weight don't stick so it's easy for them to change mid workout and half the time even know the dial on each end is the same it doesn't feel the same. Overall this product offers great promise but fails. So save your money and buy something else. ... show more

  • Versatile, tiny footprint, safe workout, solidly built. GREAT PRODUCT!!!
Color: Raw Metal (SmartConnect)
In short: Space Saver- you could get a weight machine, and you can probably do all the things Maxpro can do, but you dedicated the room to the machine. You have a home gym, but that's it. With Maxpro, I have a room I can use for weight training, yoga, sewing, Guitar Hero... Versatility- it can do everything a weight machine or a Bowflex type machine would do (but taking up a fraction of space). Dumbells- sure, I thought about getting hundreds of pounds of metal, but then, doing a lateral pull would be an issue. Maxpro provides training in any direction! I love doing those punching exercises, as well as squats, and lateral pulldowns. All in one small package. Amazing. Safety- I'm not worried about any weights dropping, or something snapping (whether it be a cable or my neck :O) Maxpro feels so safe. I'm a mechanical engineer, and I research stuff to death before I make a decision. Yes, one of those people. When I was searching for a home gym, since I got rid of my gym membership... I wanted something versatile. I'm also kind of person who want options, but I'm not a buff guy. I looked at big names like Bowflex and Nordictrack. I looked at their home gym setup, and also their nifty dumbell sets. They all had major issues. If you see the photo of my Maxpro setup, it doesn't really get in anything's way (other than the mat, which is 4'x8' for your reference). If I had spent the same money getting one of those conventional home gym setup, my tiny room would be full with the setup! I didn't want this gym towering over me in this multi-purpose room I use for hobbies, and many other things. Even the smallest setup would have taken something like 6'x4' PERMANENTLY. Maxpro does wonders in that area. It takes next to no space. You need space to workout, but except for that 10 minutes a week (:O), the space is yours! Build is great. It's substantial. It reminded me of Iron Man... It's all aluminum... not that Iron Man would have been built with Aluminum, but Maxpro feels great. It feels solid, quality made. You get what you pay for (in a good way!). I notice that some people think this is expensive. I mean, for the same price, you could get a towering hunks of metal that will sit in your room, taking up maybe 6'x6' or more permanently. Maxpro did everything home gym did in a small packaging. If you want more hunk of metal, why would one buy Mercedes when you can get a semi-truck for the same price? I also find some people don't like the whole concentric exercise, etc. There's very informational video on the Maxpro Facebook site, and it's not a sales pitch- they're just saying that different exercises serve different goals. I'm not a big guy, and I work out to stay healthy. I didn't notice anything less because of concentric exercise part. In fact, I'm much big of a fan of it now. One big reason is, it doesn't feel like the machine's going to explode. What I mean is, when you use a weight machine or Bowflex, there's this huge energy build-up. Even the cheap elastic bands are going to store energy when you're extending them twice the original length. Imagine bench pressing 200 lbs with a dumbell or a weight machine, and you can't drop it safely, or something snapping, and there's no one spotting you. That's going to come crashing down and do something- at the least make horrendous noise, or at the worst injure someone or your dog. With Maxpro, you put in the effort, but without feeling like something is going to break or explode. I love that. And there's this cool App. There are many exercises you can search (almost too many) for. It also has these "coached exercises." It feels just like a personal trainer, and the video eases you into using Maxpro seamlessly. I'm in the process of trying all of it to see which I like the best, and just to get used to using Maxpro. I say those coached exercieses should be the first thing you try if you get Maxpro. Maxpro connects to your phone's bluetooth, and it counts the reps for you, etc- pretty nifty. Overall, I'm a big fan. It's compact, versatile, easy to use. It feels solid built, unlike some questionable products. I wrote this lengthy review because I'm convinced that Maxpro made a great product, and they definitely deserve the attention! ... show more
