I used these compression shorts in the second day of the Tough Mudder Atlanta weekend. On the first day I used a pair of under armour compression shorts. In comparison the Mava compression shorts greatly out performed the Under Armour in fit, function, and comfort. Around the 8 mile mark they gave tremendous support to my hip flexors and mid glutes. These smaller muscles perform best with strong supporting muscular stability but when that begins to fail a great pair of compression shorts takes up the slack quite nicely. I have a 39" waistband and purchased XL. They fit perfectly. I have to mention that I am 48, and weigh 245lbs, also known as a Clydesdale class runner. I am being generous with by using the word running (at this age and weight) :o). However, the earlier portions of the course I ran, and the later turned into a persistent jog. The addition of the Mava compression shorts supported my efforts substantially. Becuase of my positive experience I am going to purchase a couple more pairs for my other endurance type activities as well. I recommend them. ... show more

I've tried a lot of other Chinese low cost "compression" shorts for running and they are pretty low quality. Usually the sizing is off and they offer no actual compression. These Mava shorts, however, are the real deal. I'm a size 32 and the Medium has an excellent, tight fit that hugs everything comfortably without outlining my package. The best part is that these shorts have the same compression as my 2xu accelerate shorts for half the price. I use these shorts on their own for running with nothing underneath or a jockstrap and they hold everything in place and give a pretty good squeeze on the thighs. The one improvement I'd like to see is more colors like gray or navy blue and a side pocket that more and more compression shorts are coming with. I'd definitely buy these again! ... show more

These shorts are damn near frictionless, keep everything in place, and give your lower core muscles, quads, and hamstrings the bit of extra proprioception (look it up!) and drive that I want from compression gear. I can feel the squeeze, I am more aware of the muscles they cover than with most other compression shorts, and it's just a little bit easier to reach deep and squeeze out an extra rep or two on the hard sets. Wore these to workout on the same day they arrived. If I could give these more than 5 stars, I would. Outstanding coverage and compression. These shorts provide legitimate compression and not light compression you get from name brands. Extremely good build quality - slightly thicker material than you get in other so-called compression shorts, and well sewn. The legs stay put - they don't ride up. Also, these shorts look outstanding and flatter your form. I don't wear outer shorts and these look good in the gym. My waist is a 36, and I'm on the bulky side with thick quads and developed glutes, and a men's large fit perfectly. AN XL would probably have worked as well, but I like my lycra tight. They're tight and give good compression, but they're not so tight as to be uncomfortable or so tight as to risk tearing and damaging when putting on or taking off. They have a draw string which I left untied because the waist band was plenty tight enough for me. Strong buy recommendation. UPDATE. I purchased two more pairs of these shorts. The garments seem to be of very high quality with some serious stitching so I expect them to last. The sizing may be a little bit small even for compression clothing. I normally wear a large, ordered XL because I only wanted light compression and it's still pretty tight and feel like they're constricting circulation if I stand still for too long. Not an issue worth losing a star over, just be aware when you order that you probably want to go up at least 1 size unless you want seriously aggressive compression. ... show more

After doing extensive reading on Mava's actual site, I decided to take the chance and get these when my old pair of compression shorts completely gave out. I'm in the gym 5 days (at least) a week and since I suffer from severe fibromyalgia (which causes widespread, constant muscle pain), compression shorts have been a lifesaver for my hips and thighs. And these particular shorts have been the best set I've owned. I bought a medium as I'm 5'9", 140lbs, and wear 32x32 (though sometimes I'm a 30x32, depending on brand). They're a little difficult to get up over my thighs but once they're settled the fit is perfect. They don't slip down, don't ride up, and add just the perfect amount of support and compression I need. I wear them every single time I'm at the gym and my workouts are cardio-intensive and I do a lot of weightlifting. However, with mine I removed the draw string as they sit tight enough on my waist that I didn't need the extra help. Also for the first few washes, I had random fly away strings that I had to cut down. I wash them in cold water and dry on medium heat and have had them for at least 6 months now. Would definitely recommend and plan to buy the full compression pants for the winter months and a new set of shorts when this current pair give out. ... show more
