I like this design because it really requires no tools to install. As others have mentioned, a thin foam pad between the metal stabilizing bar and the bedframe would be useful for a better grip and preventing scratches on the frame. A bit of foam double sided tape works well and also makes installation easier for one person because you don't have to hold the stabilizer bar in place while tightening the bolts. The stabilizer bar is also very thin. If it was wider, it would likely be more stable when the screws are tightened against it. This would prevent shifting when lateral pressure pushes against the top of the bracket. I was able to use mine to attach a metal bedframe to a headboard because this has two holes already drilled in the top of the bracket. I drilled a couple of extras and then added thick washers behind the bolts I purchased to attach. Works great! ... show more

Ah, the joys of flat-pack furniture! Last year's wooden futon acquisition promised stylish versatility, but delivered the thrilling experience of a rogue mattress threatening to stage a dramatic exit every time we dared to sit on it in couch mode. Enter these brackets, the unsung heroes attempting to bring order to my chaotic bedroom. And to their credit, they do work. The mattress now stays put, no longer teetering precariously over the edge like a caffeinated toddler on a jungle gym. For that, I am eternally grateful. My shins, in particular, appreciate not being unexpectedly slammed by a falling slab of futon mattress. However, these saviors come with a hint of impending doom. They're made of thin but undeniably strong metal, and every time I convert the futon, a little voice in my head screams, 'This is the day it slices into the fabric!' They're like tiny, metallic sharks lurking just beneath the surface of my poor mattress. The fact that they're on the shorter side, nestling only halfway into the mattress's considerable girth, doesn't exactly inspire long-term confidence either. It's like they're saying, 'We'll hold it... for now.' Installation was surprisingly straightforward, even for my futon's suspiciously thick wooden frame. So, kudos for that. But the overall design feels like a temporary fix rather than a permanent solution. What this product desperately needs is a little bit of rubberized love. A smooth, non-abrasive coating would do wonders to ease my anxieties about future mattress carnage. As it stands, I foresee a future involving copious amounts of inexpensive bandage wrapped around sharp metal edges, turning my futon into some sort of Frankensteinian couch-bed hybrid. For now, these brackets are doing their job, and since 'couch mode' is an occasional treat in my bedroom, my mattress might just survive. But if your futon spends more time upright than flat, invest in some serious padding or risk your sleeping surface looking like it lost a fight with a cutlery drawer. ... show more
