  • Pretty good, but with some limitations.
First off, no, this isn't a verified purchase from Amazon because my local big-box store (rhymes with Mal-Wart) had this on clearance for much less. I included a picture of it on my deck so you know I really own it and use it. Heavy: This thing is a monster. I'm not even sure how Amazon can ship it and not lose money. The main body is very solidly built and should last for years. The only concern I have is with the top of the enclosure where the top meets the body. This is plastic and started showing some discoloration after the very first use. Even though this is designed to be outdoors, I strongly suggest you get a cover for it as the plastic parts will likely not stand up well to all of the UV. Outdoor: Yes, this is for outdoor and I strongly suggest you do not try to use it inside. It has a woodchip tray that can impart a great smoky flavor to whatever you are cooking and it will belch out the smoke if it gets going. A great feature of using it outside is avoiding the smell and additional heat during the summer months. Heat: Ok, the instructions tell you to keep it 10ft away from anything. The sides of the unit to get very warm, but I could hold my hand on the side after it had been running for 1 hour at 425F, so it's not that's not the reason for keeping it 10ft away from everything. The reason is if you have a fryer fire. Very hot temps and open elements in the bottom make for a fire combination that should frighten you. I store mine next to the house, but I do NOT operate it there. I also have a dry chem fire extinguisher on the deck and a fiberglass welder's blanket in case the worst happens. IF you see massive smoke or flames licking out of it DO NOT open the lid. Pull the power and get ready with your fire extinguisher and fire blanket if you have one. Quiet: I couldn't believe it, this thing is super quiet compared to our countertop air fryer. Drip Tray: I very much like the fact that it has an external drip tray so grease doesn't collect up in the bottom of the actual cooking area and reduces the possibility of smoking or fire. Only downside is that the drip plate at the bottom is non-coated aluminum and anything that drips onto it and does not drain out will fuse to it. (It's a drip tray, so who cares if it isn't super shiny clean right?) Speed: Well, I was hoping that this thing would be super fast and cook evenly, but my first outing with frozen chicken wings wasn't great. I loaded her up with about 8lbs of wings making sure there was enough airflow across the racks. It took about 1 hour at 425F to get the top two racks nice and crispy. Then I had to pull those racks and cook the rest for another 20 or so minutes. I don't mind the time, that's a lot of frozen chicken to cook off, but the uneven cook does bother me. In reality, my countertop 5L air fryer could only handle 2lbs at a time, but it would complete the cook in about 20 minutes, so speed-wise it would have been slightly faster to cook the 8lbs in 4 batches with the counter top. Construction: The body of the unit is very solid and well built. The internal wire baskets are thin wire and bend easily. They are also chromed, so they tend to have food stick pretty bad. I've combatted this a little by spraying with cooking spray. Be careful with them and they'll last a long time. Overall: Nifty little unit for the right price. ... show more

  • Looks high quality...just missing the assembly hardware
I was so excited to try this out. Unfortunately, when I tried to assemble it I discovered that it didn’t come with the hardware that’s needed to put it together. Not sure how that happened. I even watched unboxing videos to see where the hardware is supposed to be located in the box. I will call the manufacturer as it says on the instructions and hopefully have the hardware sent to me. Other than that, the rest of the parts were packed nicely and look high quality. Shipping was fast and reliable. ... show more

  • Spacious Air Fryer With Smoking Capability
I have used many indoor air fryers, and I really like how they cook. One drawback to the indoor fryer is its limitation on how much can be cooked at once. I have not yet used this air fryer since I want to smoke a turkey in it, but I lack wood chips. I am excited to give it a try very soon. I have both a Masterbuilt propane smoker and a Masterbuilt electric smoker, and I have been quite pleased with their performance, so I fully expect that this air fryer will perform just as well. This Masterbuilt Air Fryer is a well-built product. The fit and finish of each of the components is excellent. Assembly was easy, and took about one hour, including unpackaging and cleanup. The only assembly is installing the legs, leg braces, grease tray brackets, and the carrying handles. Assembly requires that the fryer be upside down, so be sure to place it on cardboard or carpeting to avoid scratching the top of the fryer. You will need your own tools to assemble this unit. This fryer has a good amount of total rack space with four stacking baskets, one large basket, and a poultry stand that attaches to the large basket. The stacking baskets cannot be used when using the large basket. Accessories include a bottom heat deflector, which also serves as a drip pan used to capture debris and grease, which is then directed into the external grease tray, a wood chip tray that holds the wood chips if smoking the food, and a lifting handle used to lift the large basket from the fryer. I really like the ability to smoke foods. This is something unique to air frying and, due to safety, is not available with indoor air fryers. The fryer comes with a control panel used to set one of the six cooking modes, and the cooking temperature. The temperature knob can either be set to Program Mode, which sets the fryer’s temperature according to the manufacturer’s recommendation, or it can be set for a specific temperature. The temperatures range from 200 to 425 degrees, generally in 50-degree increments. To use the air fryer, add wood chips (if smoking), turn on the power, set the desired cook mode and temperature, let the air fryer preheat for 10 minutes, then load the food. To add wood chips while smoking, you simply pull out the wood chip tray, add more wood chips, then reinsert the tray. The instructions are lacking as to whether the air fryer will automatically shut off, or if you need to keep an eye out on the food and stop whenever you think that the food is done. The operating instruction portion of the manual could definitely be improved. Until I use this fryer, I will not know for sure how it operates. ... show more
