  • It's Daganronpa but with detectives.
Style: Standard Edition Pattern Name: Game
This game is Danganronpa at it's core(it's made by Spike Chunsoft after all) but no longer are we confined to a school and several floors, now we can walk around outside in a city of perpetual rain. Emphasis on walking, this game is not a point and click game. You walk with the joystick and access maps with loading areas, you talk with npcs and fellow detectives. As a detective, you must find the truth of this city of rain. Expect to investigate crime scenes, interact with quirky characters and go through a supernatural story. The game features voice acting, quicktime reactions and some ace attorney like gameplay where you will need to defeat lies with truth, but instead of a trial, it will be in a battle arena where you can dodge enemy attacks. There's also some light puzzle solving in the game, mostly toward the end of a chapter. I have to say that it's fun to try and figure out what's going on before the game has to tell you. The art and music in this game is very good as well. Overall I am enjoying this game, if you liked Danganronpa, you'll like this too. If you don't like that game series, don't play this. This is a completely different supernatural story and newly built world,(does not take place in the DR world/continuity) but ultimately, it's still Danganronpa....with detectives. ... show more

  • Mysteries That Will Keep you Guessing!
Style: Mysteriful Limited Edition Pattern Name: Game
Just when you think you have the case solved, a twist comes along to turn it on its head! Master Detective Archives: Rain Code is a game of clue gathering and then venturing into another dimension to face off against those who would try to cover up the truth. Puts me in mind of in episode of NCIS or CSI with a supernatural twist. Walking around a big city to talk to people after discovering a crime scene, and the mystery is off and running! This isn’t an action filled game. It is a slow going mystery game that requires you to think and deduct to figure out who the person who truly committed the crime could be. While fighting against an organization that will do anything to cover up the truth. If you are looking for an action film game it’s not for you. However, if you want a truly satisfying adventure with a fantastic and deep story you cannot go wrong here. Especially with the limited edition. It is by far worth the extra money! If you jump in you won’t be sorry. I guarantee you’re going to have a great time! ... show more

  • Very Enjoyable
Style: Standard Edition Pattern Name: Game
Overall a great game. With Kodaka's involvement the comparisons to Danganronpa are pretty much unavoidable, but I think this manages to stand alone as a nice, single-game experience. It's a little hard to go into detail about the game itself without spoiling anything, but if you're a fan of other Spike Chunsoft works like AI the Somnium Files, Zero Escape, and the aforementioned Danganronpa you'll probably enjoy this too. In particular I think this game is very visually pleasing with lots of great environments to explore. If you think you might like this game you probably will, go in with as little information as possible and enjoy the ride. ... show more

  • Loved this game! (Spoiler free review)
Style: Standard Edition Pattern Name: Game
As a Danganronpa fan, I was really looking forward to this game. My expectations were kind of high going in because of that, but I think they were all met ^^ I loved unraveling the mystery throughout the game, as well as the gameplay. The music and art were amazing, and the atmosphere of the rainy Kanai Ward was perfectly done. I do have a few gripes with the game but not enough to lower my rating for it. Without spoiling, some mysteries were a little more predictable than others, though the reveals were still great so I didn’t mind as much. The fan service with Shinigami was also over done imo; I did like her as a character but I think too much fan service kind of took away from that. Overall though, I recommend this game to any Danganronpa fans or fans of mystery games like Ace Attorney or AI The Somnium Files. It was an extremely enjoyable game and I’m really looking forward to the sequel ^^ ... show more

  • Well made game, with a few flaws
Style: Standard Edition Pattern Name: Game
Played and watched all the danganronpa series, great that the creator, illustrator, and composer were all involved in this game. If you enjoyed the danganronpa series then you'll enjoy this game. No Spoilers, The overall story was decent, with good mysteries and interesting plot points to keep me going till the end of the game. There was some plot holes towards the end but overall I think it was an enjoyable story. The mystery aspects were well done in my belief, some good twists. It really felt good that I figured out some of the mystery as I was partway investigating it. Characters are interesting and I think they're illustrated well in their design and profile. However, I would say there wasn't much character development or attachments for me to really care and therefore there was a lack of emotional impact or moments in the story in compared to their previous titles. I also understand it's difficult to implement with their setting, plot, environment. The puzzles and quick time events are pretty decent, my hardest challenge was not knowing which button was which on the controller. Overall the puzzles weren't bad, I would say Reasoning Death Match was a little more tricky then their previous titles. I believe the shinigami puzzle was a bit too difficult and too harsh for failing, as failing means it's a complete game over and it'll affect your overall performance rating which is pretty lame. I prioritized my skill points on the shinigami puzzle, but still was a bit difficult. Hopefully they tune it for their next game. Music is good and catchy just as their previous titles, even hum it on occasion. Art is good as well, I think they have another artist assisting the main illustrator, but I could be wrong but very good. I also think they utilized unreal engine well, it felt more professionally made then their previous titles. My reasoning for the 4 star and not 5, The story wasn't as good as their previous games, but I enjoyed it. Just don't expect this game to be as good as their previous titles and you'll have a good time. Next is that usually, they introduce some unhinged / or very unique character in their previous titles, example would be Nagito or Kokichi, which made the game a lot more interesting but felt that it was absent in this game. With the total flaws mentioned above I think it's a good game overall, but not perfect. Overall, besides the flaws I think you can find an enjoyable game especially if you like mystery games. Also, if you never played their previous titles, this game would also be a good start/game. If they do release a sequel for this game, I would definitely pick it up. ... show more
