I'll admit...this desk wasn't my first choice. I'd been looking to replace a very inexpensive, very worn out desk that was somewhere around 17 years old. I found this desk after I ordered from Costco - but they completely flubbed up my order, wasted two of my Saturdays waiting for delivery and left me working on a borrowed folding table for 3 weeks until I was able to get this one ordered and delivered. But, things work out as they should. While this desk was a little bit more $$ than the one I had ordered previously, it's very well made, was easy to assemble and looks great! Not only that, but it was delivered a day earlier than originally promised. They even showed up 30 minutes before the delivery window. Which, I guess, could be bad if I wasn't home. But it worked out well for me and gave me the full weekend to put the desk and my home office back together. It arrived in perfect shape and the delivery drivers were fantastic. The only thing I would mention is that, as some reviewers have mentioned, the top has a bit of texture. So if you're going to be hand writing letters to your pen pals, you'll probably want to put a notepad underneath. But who handwrites anything anymore anyway? For the price, the quality and the impeccable delivery I absolutely recommend this desk. ... show more

Placed my order Sept 19th, desk arrived Oct 6th - one day earlier than originally expected. The delivery service was very good at notifying me when the package would arrive including an automated message 30 minutes prior to delivery as well as a phone call from the driver at the same time. Desk arrived without any damage other than 2 very small dings that would only be noticeable if your were looking for them. Assembly took less than 30 minutes and involved 16 bolts and an allen (alan?) wrench - very easy. (When assembling, don't tighten the bolts that attach the legs to the desk until you've installed the shelf.) You'll need two people to carry the desk as it is very heavy. I like that the top is smooth as I wasn't sure if the detail would be grooved. I was pleasantly surprised that the small side drawers have movable/removable dividers. The writing desk is very nice with nice finish and sturdy. I ordered this piece to add to my home office that has the Martin credenza, hutch, and bookcase. However, this item arrived with damage on the edge of the top flat area along with the lid on the middle drawer was damaged. So, UPS will pick up the item tomorrow and I ordered another desk. The troubling point is that my brother came over my home to assist with assembly which turned out to be an inconvenience because it was damaged. Waste of time. We carefully repackaged it. Not cool. Can the manufacturer provide inconvenience/courtesy fee? ... show more

The desk arrived with damage in two places to the writing desk top. It appears someone used a fork lift to move the box resulting in damage to the leading edge of the desk. The box clearly warns to not use a fork lift. I saw other reviews that mentioned damaged desks. I have reached out to the manufacturer to get a replacement top. UPDATE: I contacted Martin Furniture and they promptly shipped a replacement top. I am very satisfied with the finished desk. ... show more

First off, this desk will show up tied to a pallet you'll never move by yourself. It's extremely heavy. Next, the one of the holes didn't line up and I had to rig it to make it work. Last, for how heavy it is, its not sturdy and wobbles side to side if you lean on it. It was a lot of money ... but it was too much work to get, move, and set up to bother with a return.... ... show more

I saw this same desk in a local furniture shop, but they only had the floor model, and that was already sold. So I checked on Amazon, and, sure enough, found the same item! The furniture store needed 4-6 weeks to obtain another desk, and we couldn't wait that long. Ordered online here and had it in two weeks, delivered in perfect condition by a couple of huge and friendly guys. This is real furniture, not the typical junk that gets delivered in 135 little pieces that never fit together quite right. We only had to attach the completely pre-assembled top to the legs. The surface of the deck is, apparently, solid wood with a high-quality wood veneer sealed with urethan. Just right for a home-office. I like the open design in my small space, as it makes the space feel less cramped than our old boxy desk. The only cons for me are the drawers are just a little too shallow, including the keyboard tray. I have an Evoluent upright mouse that cannot be in the tray when it closes. Slightly deeper drawers would have been ideal. Overall, and, especially considering what a great step up this is over the usual assemble-yourself trash I've put up with for years, this is outstanding and very highly recommended! ... show more
