I purchased this item for my niece who is 13 months old. I was thinking this would have a sturdy back that she could pull on to help herself get in the chair. It is too soft for that. The back comes down and fold out like a little bed. Although it did not work for MY intended purpose, my niece LOVED it. She sat in it the whole time we opened presents and played with her new toys. She even turned around and gave Minnie Mouse kisses. Over the next few days she would fuss to sit on her couch where she would sit and look at her books or watch TV. The sofa is easy to move anywhere you or the child want. It is light but sturdy enough for a young child. I bought two and both my grandchildren love them. One is a year old and the other is 3. The 3 year old often takes his nap on it after opening it up. A great gift.
