Description

With a fully discrete current feedback design, the PM8006 integrated amplifier is perfect for audiophiles who require both excellent music quality and flexible operation. The PM8006 offers a powerful 2x 70W into 8 ohm build, while the symmetrical circuits provide optimal imaging. The Marantz-designed electric volume control and Musical Phono EQ preamp stage ensure the most immersive musical experience and minimize noise levels. To further remove interference, new isolating feet are used to support the amplifier, combining high density and a damping fiber. The amplifier includes preamp outputs and a power amp direct input allowing the unit to be used as a standalone power amplifier for integration into a multi-channel home theater system. For precise sound tailoring the triple tone control system provides separate controls for bass, midrange and treble. The elegant remote control features an ergonomic layout for easy operation, and can control accompanying source players.

  • Tons of clean power, the best integrated amp w/ phono under $3000, vinyl lover's dream
Recently a review was posted titled "Not enough power to drive inefficient speakers" which I feel compelled to respond to. Marantz is always very conservative with their power ratings; the PM8006 actually outputs a continuous 100wpc into 8 ohms, with dynamic power handling of 128wpc into 8 ohms. These measurements were published in HiFi News magazine, September 2018 issue, page 51 — I've attached a screenshot. It's true that there may be speakers just too inefficient for the PM8006, but this depends on room size. For normal size rooms I can't imagine the PM8006 ever being underpowered. Next, continuous power is not the only important consideration for inefficient speakers. The amplifier must be able to deliver high current. Watts are simply a function of current multiplied by voltage. You can perform the same work, measured in watts, by a high voltage circuit (e.g. vacuum tube circuits) or with high current. The PM8006 uses the latter, which is better for inefficient speakers; reason being that it can handle "peak to peak" power draw without running out of steam. This is the "dynamic power" measurement mentioned earlier. I've posted a screenshot of how a low current amp will perform with inefficient speakers — notice clipping slowly creeping in. The PM8006 is very high current. The Marantz design philosophy is to use two larger (18000μF) filter capacitors that can dump power faster but take longer to recharge, and make up for it by feeding them more current (625 volt-ampere). Onto sound quality. This is the main reason to buy the PM8006. It has the most thoughtfully engineered and tuned preamp(s) you'll find under $3,000 or so. It is outclassed by the Yamaha AS-1200, but the Yamaha has a bright voice. If you're like me, you may vastly prefer the smoothness and warmth (Marantz signature tuning) of the PM8006, despite being half the price. The beautiful sounding class A MM phono preamplifier steals the show and I personally think is the main attraction of the PM8006. Isn't the whole point of an integrated to reduce the number of separates you have to deal with? I think the Marantz philosophy of keeping their integrated amplifiers 100% analog is the right way to go. I truly do not understand integrated amplifiers that have digital inputs but no phono. A purely analog amplifier will never be obsolete, while stuff with digital inputs is obsolete in a matter of years. ... show more

  • Warmiest
This marantz sounds great. It’s missing some things but the quality of the build, sound, and phono stage are just what you’d expect from marantz. Warm and inviting. I had tried 3 other receivers that were either equally priced or 3x the price and honestly the marantz sounds the best out of all of them. It’s too bad there isn’t any digital inputs and input selector change on the remote. I personally never had an issue with the volume control like many have mentioned. I’ve spent 2 plus times more on a receiver and honestly this one sounds the best this far. If only it had the ability to change the inputs without opening my audio cabinet every time. ... show more

  • Fantastic!
This is a wonderful sounding amplifier. It retains some of the signature warmth of the marantz house sound, but to a lesser degree to past amps. It is more neutral to my ears, which is actually a good thing. The punch provided by this amp is nothing short of amazing! At only 70 watts per channe, it sounds far more powerful. The inclusion of a newly designed phono preamp running in class A and a new electronically controlled volume control (improves channel separation and dynamic range) is an added bonus. The input selection is vast, allowing you to hook up just about anything imaginable! It also includes two sets of speaker binding posts of very high quality, making bi wiring a breeze. The build quality (made on the Reference line in Japan) is nothing short of amazing! It is very heavy (27 lbs) and built like a Sherman tank...the front fascia is done very tastefully and harkens back to the older marantz amps with the included midrange tone control. The input selector is of very high quality with distinct detents, as well as relay clicks during input changes. The corresponding blue led lights let you know which input has been selected. I dont think you can get any better at this price. It Is hard for me to believe that this has not been rated by any USA based audiophile magazine or reviewer...but take a look at the European and Asian markets and you will see that dozens of publications have reviewed this amplifier very favorably. Marantz, imo, has a winner in the pm8006. ... show more

  • Excellent!
I am satisfied with this amplifier and highly recommend to my friends. Beautiful sound with my audio turntables and CD player. Ref. Audio Technica AT-LP 1240 with Shure M97xE,Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Espirit with Ortofon 2M Red, Garrard DD 75 (bought in 1977)with Shure M97xE. JBL L890 + Sub250p( l'm waiting for Klipsch Heritage Forte iii for next test). PSE vacuum tube CD player CD22. NAD tuner 4100 (bought in 1995) Addendum:No phono stages are needed in Marantz series. Phono sound is excellent . If you have a second audio turntable, you may have a test to choose a phono stage for your taste. ( Audio technica AT-LP 1240 +Shure M97xE cartridge +Shiit Mani : a good result) Addendum (2022-01-18) I have bought a pair of Focal aria 948 to match with this amplifier in recent weeks. It’s connected with Fluance audio turntable RT 85(Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge) and Pro-ject DS tube box(phono stage). The most important thing is to change speaker wire cables from gauge 14,or 12 to 10 (cross section area about 5 square mm) that it changes a lot. The sound is great and earthquake-like (more bass) . The power is said to be around 130 watts (8 ohms),the factory stated it 70 watts (too conservative). I emphasized it again that the amplifier is outstanding. Very very good for your money. (All the speaker wires you can buy from Amazon and you can do it easily. Or you can connect the wires directly between the amplifier and speakers) ... show more
