  • Fast but loose
6/28/19 update: it jammed up on me. I took it apart, and it doesn’t seem to have a wire jammed inside, but still won’t work. Called makita, I’m sending it to California to get repaired. 3 year warranty seems pretty limited... we’ll see if they charge me to repair... Prob better off getting the Max RB441T. Used one today. That thing seems really quick and reliable. Original: Just bought this instead of the Max tie gun because I have a bunch of Makita cordless tools already and I was able to save some money on batteries... I’ve only used this and the Max tie gun for reference. My first impressions are simple so far... it ties faster than the Max and seems to have less issues (wire getting caught or stuck). I do have one complaint and that is it doesn’t tie as tight as the Max tie gun. I’ve played with the tightness function and the position of the rebar in the “beak”, it really seems to just be a looser tie gun. Maybe that is why it has less issues so far. But it’s sometimes so bad that the tie will slide down/off a vertical lap on two #4 bars. I’ve only used it on two jobs so far, but we’ll be doing foundations pretty solid this summer, so if I think about it, I’ll try to write a follow up review. It does come with a 3 year warranty, which isn’t based on the number of ties made... so that is a huge advantage over Max. ... show more

  • Works Good - Take some time to practice
Used this on a large foundation job. I started using personally until I got the hang of the gun. It takes some practice, and the machine is a little finicky at first but I place the blame on myself for not having patience. After 2-3 rolls got the hang of it and man you can fly. The gun has its limitations - 5x5 bar seems to be the max. Tied the 4 bar to the footer chairs, 3x3 stirrups and all the pier bar 4x4 and 5x5 with ease. Cannot do 8 x 3 we had to hand tie the cages. Have taught another member of the team to run gun; after about 30 mins with some coaching like having two people tying. Still on first case of wire. Upped to 5 stars - On second case of wire. Now the men make sure they bring this machine it is a genuine time saver. Had 3 men placing grade stakes, chairs, 3 horizontals and cross on 24" centers, had one man with gun, did a 7 pack of townhouses all rebar placed and tied in 4 hours. ... show more

  • Broke before I finished a case of wire.
Used it on one good size job and it broke before I finished the job. Wire is not readily available you have to get it online. When it worked it was awesome. The wire feeder kept jamming know matter how much I cleaned it. Turned out there was a broken part inside the unit that kept it from working. Sent it back and got a full refund. Not ready for prime time. Get the Max wire ... show more

  • Makita Has Issues
The tool works ok. I've had several I had to send one to make after 2 months to get fix. We use the tools a lot. The bad part of the Makita is the wire isn't tight enough you have to cross cross it some on vertical steel or it'll slide down. It also is temperamental on getting it in the right position to even tie this is the most agravating. I bought the Max tieing tool with twin wire it works great it'll tie without being in a perfect position and it has a dial to get it tighter. There is no lose steel with the Max. There is no comparison the Max far exceeds the Makita. ... show more

  • Great time saver.
Worked as anticipated. Had a brand new Max Rebar Tier that stopped working after a half a day of use. This Makita model worked very well, and with the 5 amp battery, it runs a very long time.Makita products just seem to work the way they are supposed to.

  • Smartest purchase yet
Best thing I’ve ever bought. Significantly speeds up production of mat tying. I’ve ran an entire case of wire through the tool in one week with no issues. Will pay for itself rapidly. Highly recommend.

  • Fast when it works
I purchased this tool 3 months ago. I was doing a foundation and the Makita rep came out and let me demo the tie gun. Worked great on #5 bar so I bought one and the one I got just isn’t the same. Tool is always beeping like it’s out of wire so I turn it if and turn it back on then it works. They should of made the on off button more robust but I push it so much to get it to work. I’m sure that will be the first thing to go out. Also it needs to but lined up just right to get it to tie and ties are not very tight . I think the price is a bit high for this gun. Only plus is that batteries are plentiful with Makita and one charge lasts a long time. I don’t think I would buy another one yet tell they rework this model ... show more
