I consider this item to be an essential too on my sailboat. Some really nasty-assed stuff spills/oozes/gets spewed on a sailboat! Sewage and vomit make for revolting clean-up without a tool like this vacuum. It's small enough stow, powerful enough to pickup any semi-liquid substance and cordless, it can go anywhere. And it cleans up easily with a hose (be sure to suck some clean water through it after the mess is gone.) Of course it helps a great deal if you're already invested in Makita tools and thus have a cache of batteries. (I have 6 other Makita tools, 5 that I keep on board and 4 batteries.) It's very durable too, I had one for almost 3 years, can't count how many times it was dropped, kicked or slammed. It was still working perfectly until it disappeared (it was either stolen or the wind blew it off the dock.) I didn't hesitate for a second to order a replacement! Make sure to take the filter out before using it on wet stuff, that clog the filter in a heartbeat. It's kind of pricey. In practice I leave it off most of the time. I can't imagine life on a boat without one! ... show more

This is my portable vac for my home and cars and I'm very pleased with it's strong suction, large debris bin and excellent build quality in small light weight package. It also does good dust extraction when connected to my other tools. Unfortunately Makita doesn't make all dust ports the same size so this will fit some (like Makita Planer & Router with the large dust port nozzle size) and not others (like Makita Jigsaw & Orbital sander with the small dust port nozzle/attachment size). In those cases I 3D printed an adapter that attaches this vac to them perfectly. I did the same for my Dewalt bench miter saw. The vac also has connecters for a typical duffle bag shoulder strap which is very handy. A shoulder strap is great hands free operation: portable dust extraction and cleaning around the house. I've never timed batt life but I feel like I'm getting a 30 - 40 runtime on the high setting with a 6Ah battery. Expect a much longer runtime on the low setting - which has decent suction too. I recommend a 6Ah battery. You don't get strong suction like this for free - it sucks batt juice. Also I bought a generic long nose attachment to spare my back when dusting my baseboards, staircases, walls, etc. I had to 3D print an adapter in order to attach it. With all of that said this is a very versatile tool and you can fill in any gaps to fit your needs. ... show more

My handyman had one and I thought it was a great little vacuum! I already had a few other Makita tools and batteries so getting it was a no brainer. We use it all the time. I vacuum the stairs in the house, the car and clean up after projects with it. It worked perfectly cleaning up all the pine needles after the Christmas tree left the house. Two speeds, works great! The convenience of this, in the same battery ecosystem as my Makita cordless power tools, is great. Cleaning up the workbench, cars, etc. is easier than ever. That said, the suction power is just acceptable in my opinion. I don't even know what the low power setting would be useful for, except maybe as dust collection via attachment to a saw or something like that, where it doesn't have to do a lot of work and max run time would be useful. So, I only use the 2nd, "high" power setting, and it does what I need it to do. Just wish there was another level up. Because the good news is, it's not like battery power is a major concern, at least with the 5AH battery. Even if it was, I'd like the option to drain my battery fast as a tradeoff for higher power in certain situations. ... show more

Initially I felt like it didn’t have enough suction to replace my Ridgid shop vac, which true enough it does not. I use the Ridgid for cleaning up messes on the floor, but do not always use it because dealing with an extension cord, several feet of hose, long attachments, emptying the bag, etc… made it something I’d sigh about before bringing it out. With this little guy, I have no issues with using it for all the tasks that didn’t seem worth the work of the full size before. As a result, my DIY jobs are a lot less messy and clean up is faster. I connected it to a Makita sander and it sucked up probably 85% of the dust and made the expense of being part of the Makita universe more worthwhile to me. I do wish it had a brush attachment, but I can buy others. I wish it would connect to Makita tools without an adapter, a few hundred dollars in tools and batteries but another few dollars to connect them is kind of ridiculous (thankfully I 3d printed adapters). I love that it’s bagless and HEPA filtered, it seems to be easier to empty than the Ridgid - the pre-filter is a nice touch. It has great battery life, the external indicator probably should have 4 bars instead of 3 but it is better than checking the battery. It’s not a replacement for a full size vacuum, but it has a lot of utility because of its size and portability and just enough power to fulfill those jobs. ... show more
