I bought two with the lift up doors and they were perfect for my needs. I was very concerned when they first arrived because the boxes had been badly damaged by the carrier. Amazingly, everything was in tact and in good shape. Yes the instructions were confusing and the video wasn't really helpful so after trying to figure out the whole "metal stick" thing on the first step on the instructions, I looked over the entire page and decided to figure it out myself. I have assembled a lot of furniture in the past so I went with instinct. I hope this helps someone else. First I took one side piece and attached the top and the shelves with the long screws, being careful to match up the grooves for the back pieces and facing the smooth sides of the shelves toward the top piece. Then I flipped it on it's side and inserted the back pieces. I added the other side piece, checking the back pieces to make sure they stayed in the grooves as I added the screws. I left the screws about a quarter inch loose on the second side so the doors could be inserted later. I added the magnetic catch on each shelf with the tiny screws. Next I took the doors and added the catch plate to one side and the knobs to the other side connecting both with the knob screws. Once all the doors had knobs I added the metal rods to the doors in the holes on each end. This part goes into the long grooves at the top of each shelf section and works as a hinge and slider. There is a hole at the front under each long groove where the remaining metal rods should go for support for the doors. Once that's done the screws on the second side were tightened. Then you remove the protective plastic wrap on each door and it's done. The units are odd because there are extra holes on the side pieces and it confuses the process more with the bad instructions. I'm guessing the extra holes are because the side pieces are used for other types of units made by the manufacturer. I assembled two of them and I'm really happy with them. They are very lightweight and while not super high quality, I wasn't expecting them to be and they are still pretty sturdy and look good. They are being used for displaying some collectables and won't get active usage. I'm really happy with my purchase.

We really like the bookshelf. It looks good and is reasonably well made. Everything lined up properly and fit together nicely. If you're looking for an inexpensive moderate quality bookshelf this should work for you. It's a better choice than a lot of the pressed wood furniture out there for less money. And this should outlast the pressed wood. The item was shipped and delivered in the time frame they showed and was well packaged. i liked it well enough that I have just purchased another slightly different one. you do get what you pay for. This was well worth the price i paid for it. The bad part is the assembly instructions. This would have been a lot faster to assemble it the wood parts had been labeled as to what they were. But all in all it was worth the trouble.

When I assembled it I absolutely loved it. It was easy to put together and it's gorgeous. On the first day it worked perfectly. 3 weeks later the doors no longer slide into their grooves. Meaning I the hinges allow for making the doors parallel to the floor, but then they won't slide back and out of the way. Also there has been some splintering. It looks great and I can work with it but it's nowhere near being smooth as silk, like it was in the beginning.

Purchased as a display case for a set of collectibles, this is a great alternative to the expensive curio cabinets and barrister bookcases that can run up to thousands of dollars. It's a combination of real wood and pressed composites. Assembly took about 2 hours since you have to use the supplied Allen wrenches and not your handy drill bit. The instructions aren't the best, but anyone with common sense should be able to interpret what they are describing in the translation. It's not an heirloom piece -- if you're seeking that, look elsewhere. But it is a practical, well-designed, budget-friendly, fairly sturdy, and visually-appealing piece of furniture for any items you wish to display or protect from dust and the hazards of daily living. Shipping was fast, and it arrived before the expected delivery date.

I'd been looking at expensive bookcases and buffets for my home office, but couldn't justify the expense. Then I ran into these. I read reviews and I knew they'd be moderate quality (especially for the price). Just some nice, inexpensive, non-heirloom quality pieces. Yes, the included directions for assembly are pretty lame. We ended up with extra parts, but I knew to expect that. I bought a short one with solid doors as well. I couldn't be happier. For less than $200 altogether, I found the perfect inexpensive shelving solution!

This bookcase has terrible instructions. The "wood" is very thin and the drilled holes are cracked and chipped. I don't trust it to hold much weight at all and it is very unstable overall. I really dislike paying over $100 for a bookshelf only to find that it has been drilled for multiple variations of ahelving. Which means the pieces can be used to build other bookshelves in this companies line. This results in a bunch of extra holes which look tacky and lead to confusion when assembling. To top everything off, a big chink of the "wood" was peeling off one of the doors. It got 1 star because it is, technically. A bookshelf. For this quality I would have expected to pay $40-$50. I would return it but to do that I would have yo take it apart again.
