    • A Must-Have Upgrade for Your AR-15 Magazines!
Color: Flat Dark Earth
Review Image by cassie McElligott
The Magpul MAG001 Original Mag Assist is a simple yet indispensable accessory that has significantly improved my AR-15 magazine handling. As a firearm enthusiast, I am always on the lookout for products that enhance both efficiency and ergonomics, and this mag assist delivers on all fronts. Installation is a breeze – it took me just a few minutes to attach the Mag Assist to my magazines securely. The design is thoughtful, providing a firm grip without adding unnecessary bulk. The polymer construction feels rugged and durable, ensuring longevity even in demanding shooting conditions. The increased leverage offered by the Mag Assist makes magazine changes lightning-fast. Whether at the range or in a dynamic shooting scenario, the enhanced ergonomics provided by this accessory make reloading smoother and more efficient. The textured surface provides a confident grip, even in wet or gloved conditions, preventing fumbling during critical moments. What I appreciate most about the Magpul MAG001 is its versatility. It fits a wide range of AR-15 magazines, offering compatibility with various manufacturers. This adaptability is a significant advantage for those with multiple rifles or those who like to experiment with different magazine brands. Magpul's reputation for quality and innovation is evident in this product. The Mag Assist not only improves the handling of magazines but also adds a subtle, tactical flair to your firearm setup. The attention to detail and durability of materials ensure that this accessory can withstand the rigors of regular use. In summary, if you own an AR-15, the Magpul MAG001 Original Mag Assist is a must-have accessory. It's a cost-effective upgrade that will undoubtedly enhance your shooting experience. Whether you're a seasoned shooter or a novice, this product deserves a place in your firearm toolkit. Highly recommended! ... show more

    • Awesome Magpul Quality
Color: Black
Tight fit and if you don't have muscle, you may have to cheat to get this on. Once these are on, there is no real need to remove them. The durability is fantastic and the end loop doubles as a cushion for when magazines hit the ground if you were in a tactical situation. They are great value. I will note that if you are new to using these types of items, it should go without saying that you do not want to apply these to smaller 10-round magazines. In most AR platforms, this will prevent the magazine from seating correctly. ... show more

    • Great, but....
Color: Black
These things are exactly as described, and they do make it easier to locate and extract a mag from a deep pocket on your vest or pouch. They are strong, resilient, and should last pretty much forever, I'd guess. If you're installing one on a mag with a base-plate that doesn't stick out past the mag's side (like my two steel mags), then it's not too hard to put it on, and it grips tight so it won't come off (without a lot of effort). So far, so good. But there are a couple of drawbacks, which may or may not affect YOU. (1) On polymer mags with "fat" base-plates, these things are very hard to put on...virtually impossible unless you warm them first with a hair-dryer (my thanks to other reviewers for that tip). On my one Magpul Pmag, even with a well-heated mag assist, I had trouble. On my IMI (Israeli) mags, the base-plates don't stick out quite as much, but the corners of the base-plates are squared off (...the Pmag's corners are rounded), so putting on the assists is just as hard (hint: start with the sharp back corners). To tell you the truth, on mags with "grippy" protruding base-plates, I'm not sure these assists help all that much -- even without them, the Pmag and IMI mags are pretty easy to grab. (2) The assists add quite a bit to the width of the mags. If you only carry one mag per pocket, this is likely no big deal. But if you carry two mags in one pocket, the FOUR LAYERS of heavy rubber make the two bases significantly fatter (at least 3/8 in). This can cause them to jam in the pocket...ESPECIALLY ON POLYMER MAGS THAT ALREADY HAVE FAT BASE PLATES. The texture of the rubber assists makes this jamming worse. It can really be hard to pull the first mag out of a tight 2-mag-pocket. I think these things are great on metal mags or any mag with a narrow base-plate. If you only carry one mag per pocket, they are good for any mag. One last point -- I've shot a lot and hunted for over 60 years, but I just bought my first AR-15, so I'm definitely not an AR expert. But I see that one or two reviewers have said that these assists make it impossible to follow the normal procedure to clear an FTF because you can't slap the base of the mag to ensure proper seating. Really? Maybe I don't know how hard you're supposed to slap the mag, but I have NO trouble slapping a mag with an assist on it. Honest, it just doesn't seem to get in the way at all, IMHO. ... show more
