Okay! So to start, I had a preemie baby that was in the NICU before coming home. He was VERY picky & particular about sleeping. He hated being cold & loved feeling snuggled up in warm blankets. At the same time, he absolutely hated being swaddled and having his arms held down. My husband and I struggled with both knocking him out AND making sure he stayed out. He would sleep the longest periods of time (about 3-4 hours in between) held by one of us. We were at the point of sleeping in shifts because if we were both awake at the same time, nobody was getting any sort of sleep. Short of simply putting him in bed with us, we were kind of at a loss. (Nothing wrong with people that safely cosleep, but this little guy is bottle fed & we already went down that path with our first & didn’t want to repeat it a second time) Enter Magic Merlin’s sleep sack. I had heard about the “magic” and seen photos of friends baby’s wearing the puffy marshmallow suit, but I honestly always thought it was just massively hyped up. (In retrospect, I’m a moron & maybe if I’d tried it with my first he wouldn’t have migrated into my bed) Does it work for every baby? Not sure. Did it work for MY baby? HELL YES. MY GOD THIS SUIT KNOCKS THIS CHILD OUT FLAT ON HIS DIAPER BOOTY IN WHAT FEELS LIKE A MILLISECOND. INSTANT 5-6 HOUR STRETCH OF SLEEP FOR A 3 MONTH OLD (if you’re a parent ((you must be if you’re reading this)), you know any sort of sleep is the most precious thing ((I mean besides our sweet little poop machines that don’t let us sleep)) ) This thing is great. No, seriously. I let him show signs of being sleepy (simple yawning/rubbing face) and I change his diaper, slip him in the sack & lay him down in the bassinet. 9/10 I can walk away and he’s already falling asleep on his own. During winter my bedroom is around 64-70 and he’s always perfectly snug, not too hot and not too cold. We sleep him in a onesie, footie pjs and socks. Is it perfect? No, but you gotta take a hit here & there. It’s pretty thick and does take a bit to dry when you wash it. The best thing here is to have 2, if possible. Another thing to note is I feel the suit does run a little small. I have the 3-6 months size but my child is 3 months & it’s pretty tight on him (he’s about 14-15 lbs). I definitely do not see this fitting him a month from now. While the double zipper in the front is very welcome for nightly diaper changes, I do still have to pull his leg up and out of the pant leg and this usually wakes him up if he’s drowsy or sleeping—as a result, I’ve begun to do diaper changes before sleepy feeds to avoid waking him up unnecessarily. My sons head is a little flat from sleeping on his back, so we’re encouraging tummy time during the day whenever possible. He isn’t yet rolling over, but I believe the suit must get taken away once they are rolling over or attempting to while wearing it (?) I also do not put the suit on unless I think he’ll want to nap longer than an hour or it’s time for bed at night. I do not want to restrict his movement throughout the day so I let him do his thing then. So far, this suit has been an absolute lifesaver. I think if used as intended, chances are you and your child will have a great time. It has helped my little one sleep longer stretches & be comfortable & warm. I’m not certain what to expect during the summer but I will probably sleep him in a onesie and diaper with the suit over. This is literally the first review I’ve ever left on an Amazon purchase but I thought it was necessary because I was looking for a review like this when I was shopping and it was hard to find. My daughter just turned five months old and has been swaddled since she was six weeks old (& the first night I ever swaddled her was the first time she ever slept through the night & has been sleeping the night ever since) I was terrified of the idea of having to transition out of swaddling but knew the day would come. When she turned four months old she started getting the strength to bring her arms up through the halo sleep sack into her face waking herself up/scratching herself/putting her hands in her mouth which made her start babbling away at wee hours of the night. I decided to try swaddling with one arm out to see how it would go and occasionally it would work but most of the time she would wake up in less than an hour from touching her face with the free hand. So I continued to wrap her in the halo sleep sack, but just did it tighter than ever..& it kept working..till it didnt. She would fall asleep great but would move her arms up after an hour or so & would get frustrated trying to free her arms (even started arching her back which mad her roll to her side..I knew it was getting too dangerous to keep it up. I purchased things like the “love to dream sleep sack”, the “woombie”, & the “nested bean zen sack.” (all of which i heard great things about)..but they didnt work for her. The love to dream sleep sack allowed her to have her hands up which she had never slept like before so she was flapping like crazy trying to escape it. The woombie was good for a couple nights but she woke up to the fact that she could bring her hands up to her chest freely but then not extend her arms so she was constantly crying out of frustration. The nested bean zen sack was supposed to mimic “touch” by having a weight on the chest but the weight is light as a feather so it was like she wasnt in a sack at all. I didnt know what to do. I decided to search the web ONE MORE TIME & came across this “magic suit” ..yea ok I bet it wont work for her..but I bought it & decided to try it out. When it came in the mail yesterday I thought it looked rediculous...but that’s what all the other reviews had said..and even though it looked ridiculous..it still somehow did the trick. So when it was time for her nap I gave it a shot. IT WORKED! She slept and hour & 1/2..which she never does for a nap! (she’ll only sleep that long being held or on my husbands chest!) * I also feel that it’s important to mention that prior to trying this out we would always wrap her up in the halo sleep sack first and then rock her to sleep in our arms or on our knees on the Boppy pillow- and she would always already be asleep before I transferred her to the crib. So I knew that that with this suit I had to kill two birds with one stone: not only transition her out of the swaddle, but also have her fall sleep on her own in the crib. I waited until she was already tired, even fussing a bit..put her in the suit while it was lying in the crib, and walked away. She started crying ( naturally because this was the first time she was ever awake in her crib without a swaddle) I reassured her after 2 minutes of crying & 2 minutes later..she was asleep! On her own! Without a swaddle! Arms free to move about! I thought maybe it was just a fluke and it was just because she was so tired..so I knew the real test would be at night. Here I am at 7am writing this review..while shes still ASLEEP! We put her to bed at 9pm (going to try earlier tonight) & shes still out. She usually wakes up at 6 or 6:30. I’ll be honest I did have to go in her room and put her pacifier back in her mouth around 5 AM because she was moaning in her sleep, but I think she was just having a bad dream, I don’t think it has anything to do with the suit. I also watched her several times on the monitor throughout the late-night hours bring her hands to her face to rub her eyes..but her arms always settle back down slowly and she fell back asleep. That would not have been possible with traditional swaddles or with having her arms completely free with armless sleep sacks. I would say give it a try even if you’re skeptical that your baby is already older and even if you tried other things and they have failed…ESPECIALLY if that’s the case, try this suit out ! ... show more

Also makes it harder for him to run his face and easy to transfer him to his crib. Definitely recommend! Size up. I'm really not a reviews person, but I know other desperate parents need to hear this. My daughter is 5.5 months, and she has been a terrible nighttime sleeper for the last month and a half. She was waking up once per night when she was three months, then a switch flipped and she was up 4-6 times per night every single night and was almost impossible to sooth without feeding. After more than a month of this, having tried different self-soothing and sleep training methods, I heard about this product and figured I'd give it a try. The first night, I wasn't too optimistic, since she fussed going down and when I left the room. So when I woke up 9 hours later never having heard a peep from her, I was absolutely shocked. I went to check on her because I was a bit worried, and I accidentally woke her, but then I fed her and she slept for another 2 hours. I got to sleep from 9-5 for the first time since she was born! The following night, she woke at 4:30 (went to bed at 8) and then went back down until 7. That early morning wake seems to be habit now, but she is also going through a growth spurt. Either way, I could not have imagined an 8+ hour stretch of sleep before the sleep suit. I ordered the 6-9 months even though she is a bit shy of 6 months. She is tall for her age, though thin, and see fits it well but still has to to grow. The material is soft, but not so soft that a wash would ruin it. I was worried that it would be too warm, since it looks so thick, but it is light weight and breathable as advertised. She sleeps in thinner footie pajamas under the suit with the house at ~68°, and so far she has shown no signs of being too warm. (Plus, there is nothing cuter than seeing my little girl look like an adorable stay-puff-marshmallow man.) During the summer I'll remove the under layer, and I'm confident it will not be too warm for her. My only complaint is that the left zipper was a bit jammed when it arrived, bit after a few uses it seemed to fix itself, and I'm sure that was a handling issue. To parents of bad sleepers: just try it. You could always return it if it doesn't work, but at least they it for a few nights. Practice safe sleep while using the product, and you have nothing to worry about. Itade all the difference for us. ... show more

My baby girl is 6 months old and I could NOT get her out of the swaddle without sacrificing her quality of sleep. She didnt like the swaddle but she couldn't sleep without it. I just returned to work this past weekend on night shifts and my mother in law decided that she "didn't want to strap her baby down" like that so she didn't use the swaddle and let my baby sleep over night with a blanket! And she woke up several times each night covering her face with the blanket and was only napping once a day. I was so furious that my MIL would make a decision regarding my baby's sleep routine on her own, and one that is so incredibly unsafe! And my hubby was on his mother's side and said "no more swaddle." Little did he know, I had already ordered this sleep suit. Last night I told him that we can put her in her crib and let her fall asleep with a blanket but then we have to take it out. She woke up so many times and he was losing his mind and blamed me because I wouldn't let her sleep with a blanket. So I told him to go to bed and I put this sleep suit on the baby at around 1 AM and she slept until 8 AM. She's napping in it right now and she has been asleep for over an hour. My daughter NEVER naps in her crib (even with the swaddle) for more than 30 minutes at a time. This thing is MAGIC! Once I put her in it, she settles down almost immediately and so far has only cried once for her pacifier right after I left her room. Other than that my baby is getting the SAFE quality sleep she needs with no more swaddle and NO blanket. This thing is literally a life saver! One thing I will mention is that I put the baby in this sleep suit with only a diaper on, because it is super thick, like a comforter. It literally feels like a good quality comforter so I know it is super cozy and warm. There is no need for baby to be wearing anything else or she/he might get too hot. ... show more

These are great, but not for all babies. One of my kiddos took to it instantly and one took a few sleepless nights to adjust. They had both started sleeping full nights with swaddles and started to roll out of nowhere, so we needed a good solution. With these we only have 1-2 wakes a night and they fall back asleep instantly after soothing. I bought 2 of these because I have Twins. These are not a magic end all be all but here is what they ARE! Warm and soft, my girls both like to be super cozy and warm, these are definitely that. The first time I put them in they started to get fussy because they were too hot, this was during the day as a test, at night when the temp in the room drops it keeps them super comfortable. They’re also soft and plush which is probably far more comfortable to lay on than baby crib mattresses. The only thing that kinda stinks is their hands and feet stick out and get cold, so have some socks or gloves on hand. What they aren’t is swaddles or weighted, the babies can still roll and move their arms and legs. It does help dampen the startle reflex, but only as their arms lower to the mattress, if the baby flails in their sleep it does nothing to stop that. I got The Large, my kids are growing fast and for the price I couldn’t justify buying two for them to grow out too fast. At the time of purchase they were 12lb and abt 21” and they fit pretty well! Their arms fit the sleeves and hands stick out, they can’t easily slip down into the suits so I’m not worried about that, their legs don’t really stay in the pants part, they do pull them up into the suit but that’s not a bad thing! Not great for night time diaper changes, you don’t have to take them fully out but you do have to pull their legs out to change them and that could wake some babies. There was a slight chemical smell, but I had To get extremely close to notice it, eg I was Trying to smell if they had dirty diapers. Return policy is “as received” so that means not worn not washed so do take that into consideration. Because of the soft layer inside they take a LONG time to dry, they will shrink if you use heat so you just have to do a few extra spins on the wring cycle of the washer and air or tumble dry low with a dry towel or two to help cut down on the time, I also spot clean mine for things like throw up. Overall it’s definitely helped the transition from swaddle to nothing, especially since we had to go cold turkey on the swaddles. I consider It a good purchase and worth the money. ... show more

EDIT: 11/02/2015 Guys, we are one month in and my little dude (5.5 months now) is now sleeping 8-12 hours STRAIGHT. I don't know if it's because he's just a bit older and has his sleep figured out or if it was the suit. Or both. He is not eating solids yet so it's not that he's "filling up" more, either. This suit doesn't prevent him from startling but does help his arms not smack his face or smack down on the bed when he does. I would recommend this to anyone having trouble with their kiddo's sleep schedule! EDIT: 10/03/2015 Asleep at 8:06, slept 5 hours, 49 minutes. Up at 1:59. Asleep at 2:13. Up at 5:45 (He actually put himself back to sleep but he has a cough and woke himself up). Asleep at 6:04. Up for the day at 8:21. Stil a major improvement from the last, long almost 8 weeks. EDIT: 10/02/2015 Asleep at 7:51, slept for 10 hours, 1 minute. Up at 5:53. Asleep at 6:16. Up for the day at 6:36. EDIT: 10/01/2015 Not as good tonight way but better than weeks past. Asleep 6:47, slept for 5 hrs, 40 min. Up at 12:28. Up at 4:49. Up at 8:21 for the day. EDIT: 9/30/2015 Little guy slept like a CHAMP last night (day 2 with Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit)! No idea if it was the sleepsuit or a fluke. He went to bed at 7:29 PM (I track his sleep) and slept 9 hours, 9 minutes until 4:39 AM. A quick nurse and he was back down at 4:56 and I had to wake him up at 7:07. Curious to see what tonight brings! Original review: It just wasn't magical for us last night! :( The color is a beautiful cream and it's so soft - it seems so comfy to sleep in! I'm not sure if I bought it too big. I probably did, as I didn't want to spend so much money on something that would fit him 2 weeks. Maybe if I had a smaller size it would fit better and help him sleep better. My 4 mo old is 25 inches and 16 lbs. Wish I could justify buying the smaller size and seeing if it fits, but not sure how long he'd fit in it and if it would be a waste of money. My little guy is not a horrible, terrible sleeper though and his sleep wasn't any worse with this on so we are going to continue using it to see if maybe he just needs to get used to it. I guess a good thing is when he woke up at 4 am today, he fussed around for about 10 minutes and put himself back to sleep (more often then not, he needs to be fed back to sleep). Our schedule last night was: asleep by 6:45, up at 8:20 (this is unusual for him, he can usually go 4 or 5 hours that first stretch), up at 1:20, up at 4:35 and then ultimately up for the day at 6:50.
