I've never seen so many bogus and fake reviews in my life and Amazon should remove them so people can get honest takes that people that actually have played and own the game. The E.A. hate train has started again, and it's unwarranted. I've been playing Madden since it was introduced on the Sega Genesis in 1989. Mind you, I've been disappointed with Madden this gen with the exception of Madden 10 which was actually very good. 11 and 12 were actually worse. But now we got Madden 13. It feels and plays great! the new animations and physics engine is pretty tight. It has some weird moments at times, but 90% of the time, it feels very smooth and convincing. Canned animations are definitely a thing of the past. Graphics are amazing. Great life on the sidelines, great weather effects and field degradition and excellent presentation. They actually did away with ESPN, taking a big risk, they went with the guys from CBS. Sims and Nantz are at the helm and do a pretty good job. A few hitches here and there, but we got a very decent presentation. While not endorsed by CBS, it still feels like CBS is doing the presentation stuff. I love the game speed also. I actually prefer to play at a "very slow" game speed and it feels like a real game. The passing feels very organic and sticking in the pocket is key. Throwing on the run again is very risky this year and you can't make the cheese plays like you used to. Online seems veyr stable. I actually played 3 games my first night on launch day and amazingly they booted right up and I had zero lag. People complain so much about online but E.A.'s servers are actually very good compared to the 2K servers which I continue to struggle with on their NBA franchise. As for people not saying Franchise is on the game. Guess again, it's just embedded through Connected Careers and there is tons to do. Go to Connected Careers, choose "Coach" mode, and start your franchise. It's just a different approach. Lordy haters. You can also play as a Legend from the Past like Barry Sanders or Reggie White. Great stuff. So now...I have to say... First play the game before making a review. Make no mistake. Madden 13 is not a perfect football game, but it's more than likely the best Madden ever made. They listened to the fans and they got a new engine and new physics engine. It's got some issues here and there, but overall you will love it. I highly recommend it for any self righteous Madden fan. For a good solid review from an unbiased sports game site, Operation Sports has a very honest and straight up review on the game. 8.5 out of 10. I'm agreeing totally, best Madden ever made. Enjoy it for what it is, a great playing football game. If something is missing from last year that annoys you, then that's fine. But for me, I'm all for fixing the engine and making a new game before adding goodies. [...] ... show more

  • I liked it..
Platform For Display: Xbox 360
My review is going to be pretty simple. First off, this is my first review and I have a rule that unless I am completely blown away, I won't give it 5 stars. The game play blew me away, however, the lack of a Fantasy Draft did take away some of the fun of it, still not enough for me to take away a star. Had a good time playing, which is important for me. Game play was better than '12, although there was an instance where a DL stole the hand-off between RB and QB and ran it back for a TD. That bugs me a little bit, but not as much as my running back not catching a 300 pound defensive lineman when he didn't even get tackled for the ball. Again, if I have to be picky, that would be my only negative. It is more realistic in some ways, but in others, it is kinda' the same. What completely blew me away (I am easy to please, I guess) was the fact that you can change plays on the line of scrimmage by talking to the Kinect. For example, I am a Miami fan, so I can say "Bess, fly pattern" and the game will highlight the fact that Bess is going to do a fly pattern. Not sure what other commands you can throw at it, but that seems like an interesting addition. Before you all rip me because I don't mention Franchise, I am going to say that I don't use it, I don't care for it, and I don't miss it. I am not ripping those who have been giving bad reviews to the game. They have a right to do so, because they find a part of how they normally play missing. I like the way the game plays. My son and I, or he and his friends have a good time playing the game and at the end, I like it a lot and hope that they keep this engine as is, or improve upon it. Hopefully they will listen to the many that liked Franchise and Fantasy the way it was and put it back. I have seen Madden developers take away parts of the game, to later add them back in. I have been playing Madden since the Sega Genesis days, so yes, I have seen it done. They are not stupid people. If they don't, they lose revenue, if they do, they regain revenue lost. Kinda' simple, don't you think? Anyway, this is my review and I am sticking with it.... ... show more

  • Fun game, but Computer has unfair advantages.
Platform For Display: Xbox 360
This game is standard Madden. It has the monopoly on the Football franchise in video games. I've been playing the Madden games through the years and each game continues to have the same problems. For instance, holding calls against your team that you have no control over are irritating. Also, Computer AI on your side is garbage. If I'm running the ball and I have a lead blocker, that lead blocker will run in front of me for a sec and then avoid blocking the defensive player 9 times out of 10. Passing plays are the same, butter finger receivers even if they are Megatron or Fitzgerald. Almost every pass that is not directly on the mark is intercepted by the defense. The defense intercepts balls so easily that it's a wonder how such good hands wouldn't be on the offensive side of the ball. Interceptions are so frequent that I decided to run the ball only and only throw screen passes. Of course doing this makes it difficult to win, but at least it's not impossible. I could be playing Tom Brady from the Patriots vs the Oakland Raiders defense and they will have 5 interceptions! It's like the receivers are not interested in catching the ball and the defenders can catch a ball ten feet in the air even if they are linebacker. Madden has always had problems with the levels of difficulty. Usually, the games are way too hard or way too easy, but at least they were still fun. The computer has such unfair advantages that it makes the game not even remotely enjoyable. With so many previous versions to use as a point of reference it's hard to believe that any game developer could mess it up. It seems like the developers took what worked on previous additions and removed them, and then doubled down on the irritating things that everyone hates. Why on earth would you rename Franchise Mode "Connected Careers?" Is it to automatically confuse everyone? I bet the vast majority of first time Madden 13 players spent at least an hour trying to find Franchise Mode. It's hard to believe that with all the technilogical advances and all the previous games to references these developers managed to create the worst Madden of all time. I would rather play Madden 95 on Sega Genesis. ... show more

  • Not Sure What All The Anger Is About; If You Like The Demo, You'll Like The Game Basically!
Platform For Display: Xbox 360
Ok, I'll admit that my experience with Madden up this point has been a purely social affair; 2008 Madden was the catalyst for the the greatest drinking game known to man being created by me and my friends (chugging a beer after a kick or punt return for a TD? You bet!). Then there was the roster update with 2009 that was meh (I remember that one distinctly though because Wal-Mart was giving the updated cover inserts with the game because Brett Favre was on the Jets when the game came out, but the original print was him in the Packers uniform...classic!). Next was Madden 2011 (which I never owned, but my friend did) and it was mostly business as usual. However, that was all multiplayer and social experienced Madden. I never went beyond that because I usually never had the time or desire to (I did used to LOVE the training sessions where you could do the 40 yard dash and bench press and stuff...that's about it though). My point is, I get where everyone is coming from. Some people want "A" and some people want "B" and you're just never going to get both most times. But, I played the demo after not sniffing a Madden game for almost 2 years and I felt encouraged to purchase...which I did of course. And you know what? I've enjoyed two fun (yet frustrating...just on All-Pro still, but working out kinks) games so far and I feel like there are many more experiences like that to come. Will I like Connected Careers? I don't know. Will the game become stale? Maybe. Will there be glitches and things that I freak out about not being able to do or customize? Probably. But again, the core of this franchise is football and for what it is worth, I enjoy controlling Cam Newton with the seconds ticking down in the 4th quarter and trying to score a TD to win the (simulated) game, and that's enough for me; that's worth my $60 (minus $15 Amazon credit that I will use towards the Black Ops II pre-order). Maybe I'm an optimist or I just try to find the good in things or give something a fair shake, but to come here because one or two pieces of a game have changed or been removed and rate 1 star doesn't seem legit to me (and I'm the first one to knock a star or two off of a review if it is legitimately lacking for whatever reason). Would you buy a car because you bought the same model 5 years ago and then get pissed when you realize they removed the CD player? Probably not...you would have researched and known this happened and then test driven the car and then made a decision after that instead of going online and bashing the car's lack of CD player (bad analogy...I know). :-) So, let's all take these reviews with a grain of salt and if you are on the fence, try out the demo or rent the game first and then see if this game is right for you. Just my $.02. And after re-reading my "review", it's apparent how many great memories this game has brought me so that in and of itself is enough of a reason for me to scratch the Madden itch again and take the good with the bad. ... show more

  • The most revolutionary madden to date
Platform For Display: Xbox 360
After reading all the negative reviews for this game, I decided that I needed to write a review doing this game justice. I would like to start off by saying that I have played every madden since 2005 and I have played nfl 2k5 (for all the madden haters out there). THIS GAME HAS A FRANCHISE MODE! It has simply been renamed into something called Connected Careers which is by far the best update to the franchise mode ever. It gives you the ability to pick any existing player or coach, or even create your own player/coach. YOU CAN EVEN PUT YOUR OWN FACE ON A PLAYER, so quit listening to anybody that says you cannot make a player. This is basically just franchise and superstar modes mixed into one mode. There are new player traits and story lines that make this the most realistic and in depth franchise mode. To be fair you cannot edit player ratings or appearance once you have started the connected career. There is also no fantasy draft which I sorely miss but this game makes up for it in the franchise mode in my opinion. Madden ultimate team is basically the same as last year just with new legends cards and most of the time you play online the games will be slightly laggy but that is nothing new. This years madden is a lot more than just a "roster update" and I feel that it justifies the $60. Another thing to note is that because of all the added functionality to the connected careers mode, the menus can be quite confusing and hard to navigate but believe me once you know where everything is at this mode becomes awesome. I feel like an actual NFL coach at times trying to decide who to cut, who to scout, who to sign etc. Lets be honest, people love to hate on madden for whatever reason and I would be willing to bet that most of the negative reviews are people that have not actually played the game yet and are basing it off what they have read. ... show more

  • EA should patch in some tissues for all the crybabies.
Platform For Display: Xbox 360
People complain if things change. People complain if things stay the same. Fans have complained for years about paying $60 each year for a "roster update", and when they finally get something different, they complain even more. Madden 13 is not broken, yet as of 10/10/12 it has a 2 1/2 star average, the same as NCAA 13 which IS broken (idk if a patch for that has been released yet or not). This game is fun and I haven't been able to put it down since I picked it up 2 weeks ago. If EA goes ahead and patches in the features everybody's crying about, cool. It hasn't affected me either way. As is, the game play is good, the graphics are good, and I applaud EA for trying out some new features. I like connected careers and the xp system. I won't bother arguing that playing as a coach in CC is the same as franchise, but it's close enough and still loads of fun. Overall it feels much more immersive. The menus are clunky and not very intuitive, but it's not so bad once you figure them out. Something for them to improve on next year, as always. ... show more

  • May be the best yet from the Madden Franchise
Platform For Display: Xbox 360
I have played about 6 games so far of Madden NFL 13 and I would have to say that I am impressed. I tried the Kinect features but I prefer the old school way to play. I love the new commentary team of Phil Simms and Jim Nance, It just adds realism to the game play. The updated physics of the game are pretty realistic and also adds a lot to game play value to me. The presentations of the the game has a very realistic feel and I find myself wanting to go back for more. I have played Madden since its inception way back on the PC, This one so far is the most challenging to me. I have also played around with the career mode and the improvements that have been incorporated into this mode are great, tons of features to play around with and to keep you busy. I would definitely think you may want to add this to your collection because it is well worth the hype. ... show more

  • One of the best Madden games in years
Platform For Display: Xbox 360
I can honestly say that this is one of the best Madden games since 04. The connected career mode is much more in depth than the franchise mode ever was. Sure picking your real coach on your real team is the same exact thing as the franchise mode in years past but now you can go much more in depth like upgrading your coaches skills or creating a player and picking them. You can pick a specific player and play through the franchise/connected career mode. The physics of this game are great also, never have I seen such a realistic Madden game. Just running through the line and hitting a players foot will make your running back lose his balance so be careful and pick your lanes...just like they would do in real life. This game is well worth the $60 and do not let the idiots fool you who think there isn't a franchise mode...there is. Just select a coach in connected career mode...I mean, it is common sense. ... show more
