  • Nice kit with a little work
This is a nice little kit for the money and can sound great with he right heads and a little tweeking. I put a GMAD on the bass and Evans clear hydraulic on the 13" FT and they are little cannons. A clear emperor did the trick on the 10" tom. The snare sounds like crap out of the box because it does not have snare beds cut in the shell. It took me 1/2 hour to cut in the beds and it's not bad. All in all I'm very pleased how it sounds. ... show more

  • Little kit; Big punch
This little kit packs a big punch. I heard one being played at a small club and ordered mine on Amazon that night. Fits anywhere, sounds amazing.

  • Unbelievably BAD
I honestly don't get all the positive reviews...? I had this kit for a few weeks and then sold it as fast as I could. There are MUCH better kits out there at this price range! I honestly could not believe that Ludwig would put out such an embarrassment of a drum set. The bad: 1. Stickers instead of screw-in badges-- looks very cheap. 2. Cheap metal bass drum hoops instead of wood. 3. Bad bearing edges-- glaring inconsistencies that made it impossible to the drums properly. 4. Riser does not work well. 5. Exceedingly bad snare-- very cheaply made and sounds horrible. 6. Wrap looked cheap and was bubbled up in some places. 7. Very cheap, plastic, horrible stock drum heads. By far, the worst that I have ever seen. At $399.00 you can do much better. Try the Sawtooth command series with 16" bass. Very nice quality drum set. The Sonor Martini kit is excellent. The Pearl Roadshow with 18" kick drum is soooo much better than this Ludwig piece of junk, and it comes complete with everything you need-- stands, throne, and starter cymbals. The SPL bop kit is also SO much better made than the Beakbeats. Please don't waste your money. Check out some of these other drum sets before you buy into the whole "Ludwig is great" notion. Their higher end drums are very nice, but this kit-- no. Stay away. ... show more

  • Silver Sparkle not White
FYI - I got mine last Sat April 1st, 2017 and it is not white it is Silver Sparkle. Not a deal killer but I did want and expect white sparkle. I actually got it at 5pm, built it and used it on my gig at 11pm. The rack tom and floor sound killer. The floor tom rubber feet are a pure joke so I replaced those immediately. For the bass drum I added a felt strip behind the resonant head for a more focused sound. The riser works great and I had no issue with it at all. I put a black Aquarian head on the batter side of the bass drum but put back the original Ludwig on and it was actually better. The rack tom and floor tom batter heads are respectable. I suggest replacing their resonant heads only. The snare drum sounds like a broken toy even after replacing the heads and snare wires. It has no snare beds so I sanded my own and that made a huge difference. It allows the wires to sit much closer to the resonant head. Out of all the drum heads the snare batter is the weakest and thus imperative that you replace with a pro head immediately. The snare drum and rack tom come built for you but I took all the drums apart and tightened every screw. Most needed it. This kit is worth the $400 and is a blast to play. ... show more

  • FANTASTIC QUALITY for the money!
What an unbelievable sound from such a small kit. My son needed a small kit he could bring into his dorm room at school so we bought a competitors kit which offered a little more in the way of hardware etc. but they were so cheap they looked like a kids set you see at Toys R Us, So we returned them and I suggested the Ludwig's because I owned a Ludwig kit 35+ years ago and it was a fantastic kit. Anyway since we had most of the hardware we decided on getting the best shell kit possible (within budget of course). This is the the BEST shell kit in many price ranges. Being from Philadelphia, PA I had to go with the drums Questlove put his name on, and we are not disappointed even a little bit. ... show more
