  • One word: Wow!
As I've written here before, I'll qualify my review by saying I've used Logic in various forms all the way back to the C-Lab days in the early 90's in some form or the other. Since Apple has purchased Logic from Emagic, it has become a lesson in efficiency and design. Never the simple program, Logic has layers and layers of functionality that require years to master. Until now. With this one book, the author fills the void that has heretofore been missing for us Logic users wanting to go "the extra mile" with our productions and knowledge. I purchase and evaluate every single book on Logic, as I teach several courses on recording, mixing, mastering, and production, using various methods. My main program is Logic, even though I had gone through a brief Pro Tools phase (because everyone else was doing it---not a "mistake", but I feel the name "Pro Tools" misleads too many into thinking that it is the "best"---their marketing certainly is). Succinctly, just let me say if you're a Logic user, you need this book. No matter how advanced: you need this book. If you're a beginner, go through the first volume, then get this book. Kudos to the authors, and Kudos to Apple for evolving and maintaining such a fantastic and downright magical piece of software. This book helps to unlock "the next layer". ... show more

  • This book should be a requirement of any advanced course teaching Logic
I simply love this book. I went through its predecessor first and as a long time user of Logic, went through it quickly. This book however goes into areas that I haven't used before. I was particularly impressed with the chapter devoted to session management and backup procedures as this is something never mentioned. The chapters are easy to follow, the instructions are at the perfect level for the reader, the techniques covered are broad and the examples are well thought out. This book should be required reading for anyone genuinely interested in improving their skills in Logic to a pro level. I can only hope they would release a book for a possible version 10 of Logic. Note: I bought the kindle version of the book, it is possible to get the example files as listed. You don't need the physical book and the DVD. ... show more

  • Caution - NO DVD content link with Kindle version
I want to warn users of Logic 9 who want to purchase the Kindle version of this book that Amazon.com does not provide a link to download the extra materials/projects/media that is supposed to accompany this book. Other online vendors, i.e. Peachpit.com, do provide a link that is provided by the author/publisher so that the DVD content can be downloaded to your computer. Without this extra content - you're only getting part of what you pay for. I have personally been trying to get this remedied... but so far Amazon.com has not provided me with a link to this material. I would say that from browsing the Kindle version of the book content that this would be an excellent book... but at this time it should be purchased as an electronic book from other vendors. ... show more

  • Easy to follow
Pretty straightforward and easy to understand. The book teaches you the fundamentals of Logic Pro. The sample projects are a nice bonus.

  • A Superb Guide/Reference Book
Let me Start off by saying that this book is great for both the well versed logic user, as well as the complete beginner. The thing I like most about this material is that if you need to brush up on your skills, learn the program from scratch OR if you are studying for your logic certification tests, this book is the Real Deal, the accompanied DVD material interfaces perfectly with the written material. Buy this if you are looking to expand your knowledge of logic 9 and/or learn the program from the ground up! (But remember to buy the "Logic Pro 9 and Logic Express 9" book as well, they compliment each other very nicely. ... show more

  • Pretty Good
I liked and benefitted more from the first manual in this Apple Pro Training Series. I'm not bad-mouthing this manual, but I don't know if I will use most of what I learned from it. If you are a hard-core Logic user, then this manual might be for you.

  • Link to DVD Content
A previous reviewer mentioned that there is no link to the DVD Content. This was perhaps rectified since the reviewer bought the book (2011). I just bought this book, and at the back of the Kindle book there is a link to the DVD Content. The files are large, 1.1 GB and 1.6 GB respectively. This is a problem in bandwidth poor South Africa. Perhaps if the publisher could also create a set of smaller download files for the rest of the world? Otherwise, these are brilliant books. I also bought "Logic Pro 9 and Logic Pro Express 9" and enjoyed working through the book. ... show more

  • excellent advanced course...
If you have Logic Pro 9 and want to improve on the way you do things, or just make it work the way you want it to, this book is for you. As a new user to Logic Pro 9, I found that I had more questions left unanswered after the initial course. This book fills the gap. Comprehensive, easy to follow, colour pictures and screen shots abound. This really takes you deeper into how the Logic Pro 9 interface works and shows you how to get the very best out of it. The DVD tutorials are also informative. ... show more
