Great for melting butter, jam and sauces. If you don't dry this pan right away the handle rusts. Wash it right away or it is hard to clean. Works for what i needed it for. Cast iron so it is heavy.

    • Actually purchased for henna for hair use!
I actually purchased this for mixing henna for my hair rather than for barbecuing. The henna product I use instructed setting the henna in an iron pot, but I thought I could bypass this. After using henna for a couple of months, the thought occurred to me that maybe something in the interaction with the iron metal helps with the curing. Any henna user will tell you that it's an endurance test and everyone has to find their own mixer combination and timing for the results they want. I'm still experimenting, so I bought this pot per the henna instruction with the hope that it will help me get the results I wanted. I did everything in mixing the henna I had usually been doing, then applied it from my roots down about 1". Since I only have to do my roots now, the size of this pot works out. This first time that I have used the pot, the henna color result on my hair is actually a little darker, more red than before without the pot and closer to what I want. I also had kept the henna on my hair for half the time I did before because it was just too hot that day. So, there might be something, then, to the whole iron pot use. Whatever the cause for the darkening, I am continuing with this iron pot and experimenting with combinations. This size is agreeable also because it fits nicely on my small bathroom vanity as I apply the henna and it does not take up much space on my tiny kitchen counter as it cures. The long handle makes it easier to move around, because, well, small bathroom vanity and tiny kitchen counter. I would recommend this pot for anyone who does henna on their roots. ... show more

Size is perfect for melting sauce, and using it on the BBQ without worrying about melting handle. Circular size is easier for cleaning (instead of rectangular shape ones). Came pre-seasoned and very well made. Looks like it will out last my life.

Lodge's Cast Iron Melt Pot works very well with my flat top griddle. I set it right on the griddle surface to get it hot, and once it's hot I set it on the side shelf, and it's heat capacity (it weighs about 3 pounds) keeps the contents liquid for a long time. If you are cooking for a large group you can simply move it back to the griddle for a about 2 minutes, and it's hot enough for about 30 minutes after that. It you plan to use it for something like cheese on the first use, I recommend seasoning it with the oil of your choice twice, That way, It's easy to clean, even melted cheese just wipes right out. ... show more
