Description

LIVEN 8bit warps is combined an 8-bit waveform memory synthesizer with a step sequencer, that we are designing with a focus on live electronic performance. Carefully selected preset waveforms and editable user waveforms along with high-quality filters and effects can be used freely to create a wide spectrum of sounds. The LIVEN 8bit warps can generate classic retro game sounds of course, but its unique 8-bit sound can also be used in a range of music genres, including EDM, hip-hop, techno and rock. Cross-fade between two different waveforms to create a unique waveshape. Instantly cut from one waveform to another, using variable attack time. Morph between up to three waveform using this wavetable engine. Explore the frontier of 8-bit synthesis using this 2 operator FM engine. Supports up to 128 steps per pattern, 128 patterns can be saved, supports notes from whole notes to 32nd notes, supports tie notes across steps, supports parameter lock to record knob movements for each step -Sequence effects: SLICE for playing back tied notes cut by one step, RANDOM for randomly jumping through steps, and STUTTER for playing back only the step you are pressing. -Chain playback: Also features a chain function that allows you to schedule playback of sequence patterns. For example, you can record rhythm, bass, and chords on the looper, and play back the lead part on the sequencer and layer it. The looper will automatically record and play back the beginning of a sequence pattern. Track 4 can record audio from devices connected to LINE IN. Track 4 can record audio from devices connected to LINE IN, and audio from LINE IN and track 4 can be crossfaded. DELAY and BIT CRUSHER are specially designed for live performance. The DELAY knob can be turned all the way up to the MIX knob to activate the hold function, resulting in a continuous, detailed delay sound like a machine gun. You can also turn the TIME knob while holding it to play a cassette tape in fast forward. The Bit Crusher allows you to increase or decrease the sampling frequency with the knob, allowing you to freely control the sound from clear tones to destructive sounds. In addition to the above, Bit Crusher also features Chorus, Flanger, and 7 types of reverb. Traditional MIDI and SYNC clocks are supported, as well as the Audio Sync function used by Teenage Engineering’s Pocket Operators and the ELZ_1, which combines the clock and audio signals into a single stereo cable. Functioning as a bridge, the LIVEN 8bit warps can translate clock between MIDI, SYNC, and Audio Sync devices, so all of your gear can play in time. With these input and output options, it is possible to bridge the MIDI clock, SYNC, or Audio Sync in any combination. One of these devices is not like the others, but they will play together all the same! Use the LIVEN 8bit warps seamlessly in you chain of Teenage Engineering devices, using their native Audio Sync function via 3.5 mm audio jack.

  • Best budget synth by far. Punches way up!
Liven 8 bit warps This is a very good cheap synth. Sounds much better the new Roland line at the same price and better than any korg volca. Also sounds fuller than my korg minilogue xd; which it has replaced in my jam set up. The moiniloge xd is better in most ways but was too thin sounding to hold up in a jam with my mostly moog and dreadbox set up. It is pretty versatile and if you are into synths for nostalgia and grew up in the 80s or early 90s; it will scratch your itches. Effects aren’t that good though and adding some good verb should be a first priority. For two hundred bucks there just isn’t competition. Buy this or save up for microfreak if you want a synth, or model cycles if you want a groove box. This plus a cycles would be a pretty rad budget set up. ... show more

  • Great 8-Bit Synthesizer/Sequencer/Looper
Polyphonic 8-bit sound engine, 128 steps sequencer, 128 sequence memory, 4 track looper for layering sounds including 1 track dedicated to looping external input, audio in & out, full size 5-pin MIDI In & Out, 3.5mm sync in & out, battery powered, built in speakers. Everything you could want and more from a $200 piece of gear. Great addition to my synth family! ... show more

  • Other than being plastic
This is a wonderful digital synth. The 8 bit tones are usable in many application. Every button is labeled which is kinda overwhelming, but with enough focus it's easy to find any adjustable parameter and setting. I've heard some people don't like the sequencer, but I think it's awesome. You can program out just about anything at a few layers. They only challenge is memorizing the 9 million clearly label buttons. Would highly recommend for the money. ... show more

  • I love this synth
I love this synth. It has so much going on and though intimidating at first, it is very user friendly and feature packed. I will certainly be getting more Liven series synths.

  • Versatile 8-bit synth sounds
Very useful synth for old NES-style videogame techno. Works well with my other gear.

  • Interesting sounds, hands-on workflow and powerful sequencer
lots of connectivity, too many pros to list - if lo-fi sounds is your thing you unlikely find something as powerful for better price

  • wonderful sound .. but
I wish I could have kept this but ended up returning it. I was looking for a grove box that could handle multiple tracks simultaneously. The Liven 8-bit has a function that is almost a workaround for that, but not quite. It just did not fit my needs but I can see where it would be extremely useful if you are using it with a DAW or some other midi controller with other instruments. But people who have called it a groovebox haven't done it any favors. That's not what it is. It's a very good 8-bit sounding synth. And that's all it has to be. ... show more
