This is fun to play with…now. When I first got this for our grand kids I spent so much time putting it together because the instructions are not very clear. However, once you look at the box to put it together from the picture it goes together great…just match the colors from the picture. I was excited when I was finally able to give it to them but the toy scared them for a very long time. It’s louder than I/we expected and rolls around everywhere so them trying to reach in to turn it off takes a lot of timing, which 3 year olds don’t seem too possess yet. For older kids that aren’t as startled from the sound and their timing is a bit more consistent I think it’s great. One thing to note, the train will not run by itself off the track. It’s not much of a toy to “play” with but it can be fun to watch….for a little bit anyway. ... show more

I was a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews, but I figured if it didn't work I could return it and I'm glad I got it! The pieces snap together easy and the directions could be clearer, but if you focus on the numbers matching up, it goes together pretty easy! The train is super cute and durable (has survived being dropped several times). It's worth noting that the train only runs for 30 seconds at a time, but honestly my 2 year old loves pressing the button to make it go, so it's a win for me. I was worried about his fingers getting pinched if he was holding it where the train was going, and so far, it's just run into his fingers and stopped. It's also easy to take the train on and off the tracks if your toddler is like mine and wants to play with it separately. The train runs by a small gear underneath, so it won't move when it's off the track. All in all great toy and would recommend! ... show more

    • Fun in theory, less so in practice
When it works it's great but it's not easy to build a working setup. In fact for younger kids it will prove downright impossible. The instructions offer no real help even though the box claims there are so many ways to build. When using the main picture to build I found the track to not quite stay together, there was always too much pressure on one of the connections that it would "unhinge" on one side and render the whole track useless. One of the pieces actuallt broke after trying to build the pictured track and is now unusable (within 15 minutes of unboxing). I give 3 stars because it is quite cool when you build a really simple track and watch the train flip and flop it around the room. Just wish there were better instructions and it was a bit more durable and stayed together better. ... show more

    • Gave it early and it was a smash hit.
Adult assembly or at least for kids under the age of 4 is a very good idea. But it is enjoyable. And with a 16 month old being excited and trying to help, it can be more of a puzzle, but once together it is worth the effort. The elaborate picture configuration works and plops all over. It is almost frightening and exciting all at the some time. My little buddy loved it. All pieces need to be fit accurately then with the train engine attached, it works fine. Any track joint not quite right causes it to stop. But you figure out what is wrong pretty quickly. There are also multiple configurations other than the large pictured configuration, that provide enjoyment and are more controlled. This was worth my money. ... show more

    • Train broken out of the box
This absolutely ruined my grandson's birthday surprise. I installed batteries and turned the train on to test then assembled the track into a continuous ball as on the cover of the box. The directions are useless. I installed the train on the track and presented it to my 3 year old grandson for a birthday surprise. He was excited for a " choo train " . I let him press the on button on the smokestack and the train started screeching in place without moving.. the gear that moves the train did not engage... The train just made the screeching noise and scared my grandson into running away and hiding. I'm very mechanical, but there was no fixing this broken junk. Very angry that i received junk for my money ...contacted little tykes support ...we will see how that goes... The track and train appeared to be good quality, but the motor was just a lemon . ... show more

This product did not work right, the response from little tykes was wonderful. They got back to me right away and resolved the problem. I never hesitate to buy little tykes products,things do happen sometimes but at least you know that the little tykes company will take care of it. Theresa
