The bottle itself is 1 L however make note that the straw does readuce that full amount if you were consdiering it. I use it in the caribbbean but their water generally tastes fine and didnt really notice a difference in flavor. So just will need to test it in more areas but just kind of going with the logic for right now that they say it works. Will be open minded in case I end up in more dire situations where i'll need to really test more areas. ... show more

Minor, slow leak from both the sipper and cap seal when it is laid on its side. Say, like on the shirt your going to wear the next morning. Keep it upright and no worries. Used it on a 6 day river trip in India with no other troubles. Photo shows full bottle laid on its side for about 5 minutes.

I purchased this for an 11 day trip to Eastern Africa. It is easy to use and I am so glad I had it. Having access to clean water everywhere I went was wonderful. I even used it on the plane to pour the cups of water they give you into it. Some reviews say that it leaks, and while there will be some spillage if it’s in a bag and stored sideways or upside down, it’s very minimal. The key is to follow the instructions that are included. When you finish drinking, you have to blow just a small amount of air back through the straw. This prevents the vast majority of leakage. If you don’t do this, water will pool at the top and make a mess. The manufacturer is clear about that in the instructions. Overall it’s a great product and I’m thrilled with it. ... show more

Took this water bottle to Mexico for two week trip so that I would not have to consume dozens of bottled water containers. Usually filled up from any tap source, regardless of the water supply. Just for grins, filled up in a Cenote (swimming hole) and drank that too. No digestive issues whatsoever. I bring this on all my day hikes. I recently ran out of water and had to drink snow melt. This gave me the comfort that the water I was drinking was safe and filtered. You could probably scoop water from a mud puddle and drink it if you had to although the idea is to look for the cleanest water you can find and then use this. ... show more

Follow the directions and it will work just fine. Will leak if inverted and drinking from the straw requires a little more effort than a non filtered bottle
