  • Simply outstanding
This is my fifth LG 34" Monitor with Thunderbolt, but my first curved model. They all function perfectly with either my MacBook Pro or MacPro, though the higher performance GPUs of the MacPro really make these monitors shine. Differences in construction are subtle, the nicest difference is the attachment of the stand to the back of the monitor—one doesn't have to use the VESA mount. The stand simply 'pops' into place with a slider switch. Oh, and the chassis back is white, not black. The toggle is recessed a bit, so there's no more accidently touching it and turning the monitor off. The picture quality is simply outstanding. The curve is not ostentatious, just enough to eliminate one having to move their head back and forth to cover the full width of the monitor. I have already ordered a second one, planning to bracket my LG 34UM88-P 21:9 UltraWide Monitor. We'll see how that works; I fear the result might cause me to purchase a third curved LG. LOL I can't comment on their use with gaming, as I don't roll like that. I'm a professional photographer, so the multiple monitor setup is for Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, and other image-editing applications; DxO, ON1, etc. I haven't tested the color calibration yet as I just setup the monitor last night, but from eyeball examination it looks terrific on images I have seen on the other LG monitors which I have calibrated using an external calibrator. Cannot recommend this monitor enough. ... show more

  • This really is a magnificent monitor with thunderbolt input/output
This really is an incredible monitor. I'm using this with my late-2015 Macbook Pro 15" and it's just incredible: the colors are vibrant, the setup is easy, and there's ports galore for just about everything. I have just a single thunderbolt cable (not included, but HDMI cables are included) from my macbook to the monitor to feed the display and connect some USB devices off the ports from behind the monitor (USB keyboard and a webcam). The onscreen controls (software installed) allows you to easily snap applications to split windows (for example, you can split your screen into four windows and apps can snap into each window; there's a myriad of screen configurations to choose from like one large on the right, two smaller on the left, etc.) The monitor comes with a stand that adjusts up and down and offers both side-to-side tilt adjustment and forward/backward tilt adjustment. It's extremely smooth to handle and very ergonomic. There's a little catch in the back to keep all the cables tidy (nice). My unit was shipped directly from Korea and arrived in two days! The instructions were primarily in Korean, but a quick visit to the LG site and you've got all the manuals, guides, etc. in english available for download (don't forget to download the software too). I don't know why I waited so long, I guess I was waiting for the right monitor. And this is it. ... show more

  • I didn’t have the heart to give this beautiful monitor a 4, but I wish there was an option for a 4.5 due to marketing.
Rather than reiterate all the great things about this monitor, I just want you to be aware of a few things before making an $1100+ investment. First things first, the user manual and OnScreen software is available on the LG website. This is especially helpful if you don’t want to dig up an old external dvd drive to install the software. [...] I installed the OnScreen Control (1.35) on my Mac Mini (OS X EL Captain & Windows 10 using Parallels). The Screen Split (1.23) for Mac OSX isn’t listed on the above site, but you can get it from the support page for the LG 34UC97. [...] However, after installing both, you realize they offer the same functionality. There is a good YouTube video that explains the setup: Setting Up 4-Screen Split – LG UltraWide Monitors | LG USA [...] Once, installed it’s so easy to drag and drop an application into any screen area. ☺ Now on to the marketing… So yes, you can have 4 screens split and theoretically 8, but it’s not because you are maximizing the 5 inputs (2HDMI, 2 Thunderbolt, 1 DisplayPort). Page 25 of the user manual is the only place that clearly indicates that you can’t view the HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 inputs at the same time. After doing quite a bit of reading yesterday, I found that you would need additional hardware to do this for many new monitors that advertise PIP. One of the major reasons, I chose this monitor over the Predator, Samsung, or the new Dell P4317Q were the number and type of inputs. With so many devices using HDMI (multiple computers, laptops, cable TV, gaming consoles, etc.), it would have been nice to be able to view 2 HDMI inputs at the same time. I plan on purchasing a Thunderbolt cable to test the PBP features today. It’s nice that they bundled a DisplayPort cable, but then it dawned on me, that my Mac Mini and Surface 3 use Thunderbolt / mini DisplayPort connections. As far as I know, Macbooks wouldn’t be able to use the full size DisplayPort cable as well. By the way, for those who are worried about using a curved monitor, your eyes adjust after the first 5 minutes. So, as I mentioned earlier, this is an absolutely stunning monitor and you won’t regret the purchase. I just wanted to highlight a few additional details that may help you in making your purchase or using this product. ... show more
