  • Not as easy as plug it in and bask in its full glory but very satisfying anyway.
Style: 27UL500-W
I didn't rate this for gaming because I don't have a video card to drive a 4K monitor at a good speed yet, but for everything else, it looks brilliant for the money. I'm a working stiff these days, so I don't have the free time I'd like to have to play around and get everything set up just so, and I found that there are little hurdles and speed bumps along the way with these newer displays if you want to actually USE all of the fancy marketing buzzwords like HDR or Freesync or G-Sync or high frame rates or FALD (full array local dimming). I haven't gotten those all figured out just yet and the documentation and user interface aren't quite intuitive if you've never had to set those up and get them actually enabled and working correctly in real life before. They're not just "plug it in and bask in the full glory" easy yet-- you have to make sure you have the right combinations of hardware, cables, drivers, and settings between all the devices and peripherals to take full advantage of those newer features. But 4K crystal clear beautiful brilliance does pretty much work right out of the box, and at this price, even just that is worth having. It takes very little adjusting to get very realistic colors compared to my old calibrated Dell setup. I didn't even have to delve into the color calibration tool in Windows to get it fairly close to what I prefer in my lighting environment and get my pictures to look almost exactly like they looked in real life when I originally took the pictures. I don't even feel bad quite yet about not pulling out a hardware calibration tool. So while I haven't put together all of those pieces in a way that lets me enjoy all the features and functionality of this monitor yet, I am already satisfied with my purchase even if I never take the time to make it all work at peak performance. This is a pretty darn good buy. I've even considered picking up another one or two to replace my old 1080P monitor and at least one of my work monitors at the office because of the price to performance ratio. The only reason I haven't is because I may get my work to buy one or two for me for that, and at home I'm planning to buy one of the top of the line 4K G-Sync quantum dot monitors as my main/gaming monitor once I've upgraded my rig to push 4K really well, and it seems silly to me to buy a perfectly good monitor to only use for a few months. These are too good to waste and I don't have room on my desk for a triple monitor setup, unfortunately, or it'd be a no-brainer. ... show more

  • Great looking monitor and perfect size.
Style: 27US500-W
I’ve been using the LG 27US500-W Ultrafine Monitor for a few weeks now, and it’s been fantastic. The 4K UHD resolution is incredibly sharp—text looks crisp, and colors are vibrant without being oversaturated. Out of the box, color accuracy was already very good, but after a quick calibration, it looked even better. The 27-inch screen size is the sweet spot for productivity—large enough for split-screen multitasking without taking up too much desk space. I mainly use it for photo editing, web browsing, and occasional Netflix, and everything looks clean and smooth. The IPS panel gives great viewing angles too, so there’s no color shifting when I move around. Build quality is solid and minimalistic, with thin bezels and a clean white finish that looks great on my desk. The stand is a little basic—only tilt adjustment, no height or swivel—but that’s easily solved with a VESA mount. Connectivity is straightforward with HDMI and DisplayPort options, and it works flawlessly with both my MacBook and PC. ... show more

  • Very good image for the price. No picture, gaming or video issues seen since setting up 5 days ago.
Style: 27UL500-W
(Updated) For many years, I used a mismatched dual monitor set up that consisted of a 21” Acer and 22” Samsung models from around 2015. Even though this was adequate for a lot of basic things, it always drove me a little nuts they were of different sizes. Also the color calibrating on both models was a pain that never quite worked and the same videos/images were noticeably different hues depending on which monitor they were displayed on. Basically, it was time to get a dual monitor replacement set of the same brand and model. I also wanted something that was 4k capable, in the 25" to 29" size range, and of course something that would not break my budget. After spending a few months reading reviews of various models, I found that the LG 27UL500-W 27-Inch best matched my wants and needs. On Prime Day, Amazon discounted the price further, so I placed an order for a set ($279 ea). Setup: Very easy. To conserve desk space, I purchased a WALI Dual LCD Monitor Fully Adjustable Desk Mount Stand that had two arms. I had no issues attaching the monitors to the desk mount and running cables from the monitor to PC/outlets. Fit and Finish: I have not seen any bezel issues where they were pealing apart. They are not the thinnest and are about .25” around the top/sides. The bottom is wider. Since I use a desk mount stand, I have no comment about the stands that came with the monitors (they are still bagged). I like that LG put a toggle for the screen controls instead of a row of buttons. Picture: The picture quality so far is very good. I have not seen the light bleed a lot of commentators have noted. Ports: The LG 27UL500-W 27-inch has 1 display port (v1.2) and 2 HDMI ports (v2.0). No DVI or RGB15 ports. I assumed I that I could use DVI  HDMI/DP or RGB  HDMI/DP adapters. Neither RGB (which I expected) nor DVI adapters (which I did NOT expect) work with these monitors. So those that have older PCs/Laptops/KVM switches may be out of luck if the equipment does not support a DisplayPort or HDMI video connector (on my initial review, I deducted a star for this). So, my 4-port RGB KVM switch will not work (this was expected, and I am had my eye on a replacement 4-port HDMI KVM switch that supports dual monitor). For the PCs, it’s a matter of finding cheap replacement video cards that are PCIe x16 with 2x DisplayPort or 2x HDMI ports (but cheap ones do not seem common) and enough VRAM to drive this monitor (from what I read 1 GB should be more than adequate for 1080p since I do not plan to use these PCs for high end gaming). I did find that a passive HDMI to DisplayPort works so integrating a new HDMI KVM switch should not be an issue. Overall, I have been pleased with my LG 27UL500-W 27-Inch purchases. I also have a plan to work out my KVM/Cable/Monitors. If all goes well, I will likely raise my rating from 4 to 5 stars. Update 05/05/2020: I am raising my rating by a star - No image, video or audio channel issues have occurred with either monitor since I purchased them July 2019. These monitors are in near daily use, are powered on/off often and subject to resolution changes a few times a month. The audio channel is constantly used through one of the monitors for steaming video from a ROKU that is connected to one of the monitors. I fully integrated these two monitors to use with a 4 dual port HDMI KVM switch. My only disappointment was that an old ROKU SE did not work with the monitors via the HDMI port. This was most likely due to the ROKU SE inability to support 4K. Using a ChromeCast and a ROKU streaming stick had no issues with either LG monitors). (Update 09/09/2025): These monitors have been absolutely fantastic. I’d give them 6 out of 5 stars for durability and longevity. Several years ago, I accidentally oversprayed one with a monitor cleaning solution, and the fluid seeped behind the screen. I thought it was a goner, but within a month the fluid dried out and the picture quality returned to its original state. This pair has also gone through several computers as I upgraded and replaced systems, yet they’ve performed flawlessly every time. This LG model is no longer sold new, except through used listings on auction sites, which is unfortunate. When they finally give out, LG will be my first choice again without hesitation. ... show more
