    • Exactly what I was looking for - strong filtration for open floor room in a dog/active family

I was looking for a air purifier for my common place and larger room/hallway. We have a dog that shed regularly and we are an active family that are constantly going in and out after hiking/running daily. I also cook a lot, and our main floor is a big open floor plan space. My MUST HAVEs are: 1) be able to handle a big area, 2) good purifying function for dust, 3) can handle smoke purifying during forest fire season, 4) relatively easy maintenance, 5) as small as possible floor footprint. My NICE TO HAVEs are: 6) Reusable filters or affordable replacement filters, 7) kind of loud! I had Conway AP-1512HH for a while. I liked the filtration, but it was big and bulky, the washable pre-filters were kind of a pain to clean and replacement HEPA filters were expensive. And the color of black really doesn't hide my dust well in between cleaning. So I sold them. I bought one, tested it out for about 2 month, liked it a lot, and got another one to cover all the open floor plan area in two floor. Here are the detail of my must-have and nice-to-have: 1 & 2) This thing catches a lot of the dust! I have a robot vacuum I ran daily but my house seems to be super dusty because we run/walk/hike a lot with our dogs. I can see the dust in common area reduced after I start using this especially adding 2 units, one on the main floor in the middle of the common area and one upstairs in the hallway (we keep our bedroom doors open) 3) Have not tested this yet, keeping my figures crossed for our forests! 4 & 6) The filters are one single unit with the a very thin pre-filter attached to the carbon and Hepa filter with Velcro. I vacuum the pre-filter about every 3-7 days, and tried to wash it. The washing and drying process changed the shape and tension of pre-filter and it stretches it to make it kind of hard to put the pre-filter back. So I decided to buy filter packs with extra pre-filters, because I would like to replace pre-filter more frequently due to my house being dusty. And there are plenty of after market filter packs with very reasonable price! Outside of the filter, the unit is very easy to clean. The white color hides my white dog hair well, lol! 5) It is not big so fits perfectly without getting in the way. 7) I know most people want a quiet air purifier. Not me. Our dogs are sensitive to sounds outside our house so I use the air purifiers as noise machines! Usually I keep the unit on the middle setting, which is the level I like to keep my air clean and not being too loud when the family is socializing. I turn the setting to highest when I know I will get milk deliver that night, and my dogs usually don't bark with two air purifiers on high PLUS a noise maker by the window closest to my milk cooler. I bought this for our bedroom because we have dogs and my husband suffers from pretty bad seasonal allergies. I can say that the allergy season after we purchased this was VERY mild for my husband. I feel like it cleaned the air pretty well. It didn’t seem to do anything about smells. We have two large dogs and they smell like…..dogs. This didn’t magically make their smell disappear. I wasn’t expecting that and I don’t think it’s fair to assume you’d see much difference in that sort of thing. I have a pretty sensitive nose and I didn’t feel this made much difference at all on the smell of the room. But the allergen reduction was very real. I like the modes on the machine- the option to turn off the lights on the panel while still running the machine is nice. The machine overall is very sleek and unobtrusive- we sat ours on a dresser and it tucked out of the way. The highest setting is like a super quiet fan. The lower setting is barely noticeable. I ran ours on low almost all the time. I removed a star for one issue. I had this for several months before the filter light came on. I immediately bought a new Levoit filter and replaced it. Within one week, it asked for a new filter. That seems like a very short amount of time for the second filter. I wonder if the filter was bad or the machine has malfunctioned. The filter was still clean and not overly dirty when the light came on. So the unreliable nature of that filter light gives me concern with the filter quality or the machine. ... show more

I own two Levoit purifiers, both work great (soon will invest in a core 300). If you’re looking for crisp clean air in your house, especially on a chilly evening or a warm summer day, this thing is perfect! You’ll notice within a day or two of using it, the room feels.. “cleaner” as it should, the air you breathe without a purifier is mostly particle born. Asthmatic? Dealing with wild fires? Live in the PNW and you’re not sure if this’ll get you through? As it says, the square feet for its covering range are pretty decent, it keeps a 36/38 by 20/24 foot sub basement very clean(air wise). I had this when the air was thick with smoke and the skies were blood orange/red, it WILL not do your entire house, generally a big bedroom, with good circulation around the room. I’ve noticed using a cheap 20 dollar fan to create air flow helps too, that’s pretty optional though, as this thing on full blast is powerful. The filters, Levoit brand or off brand, don’t seem to change the quality (for me at least), they generally last 3-5 months for me, you’ll usually get replacement filters with preliminary screens for large particles too(built in). Cleaning. Cleaning will need to happen every 6-12 months, depending on use mostly, and what it’s used for, but usually once your filter is going out, it’ll let through very tiny amounts of dust, which build up over time. The side comes completely off and all you really need is a Clorox wipe and a microfiber cloth(optional) you could use warm water and a towel just as well. The blue light that you see for “active/powered on” can be turned off with a touch, it’s not very bright though and I don’t even notice it. ... show more
